  1. Steve Stone just isn't a White Sox fan, apparently.

  2. You have wonder if this came from earlier kimbrel trade discussions that fell through but the Sox liked this guy as part of that deal and found another way to get him.

  3. For some reason people on this site never compare our team to the other 29 teams when they put our FO on full blast. Our pitching and hitting will probably both be top 3 in WAR. We are beyond spoiled except at like 2-3 positions.

  4. Wow. What a call. Does someone have a cookie for this gentleman?

  5. We sure like to take on reclamation draft picks from other teams, as if we were good at developing minor league players and our own draft picks. The arrogance here is comical.

  6. I initially overreacted. He likely was a 40 man casualty in Philly and we are taking advantage because we have the space. He could easily start in Charlotte, never make the show and eventually face the same fate in a roster crunch here. I'll also just assume he'd be an above average corner OF since he is or at least was listed as a CF. Fine move if he is Plan C for the opening day roster, unacceptable move if he is the new Plan A.

  7. I would love it if it was for Kimbrel, but I have to imagine the first thing to leak in the scenario would be "Phillies acquire Kimbrel" instead of "White Sox acquire Haisley...no word on the return".

  8. No way they gave up Burger for this guy. It's either dumping Kimbrel's salary or a prospect far lower on the totem pole than Burger.

  9. Terrible. We had 4+ years to give AAAA players like this their chance. We did our time and deserve better.

  10. I really liked him around draft time. Haven't paid attention since then.

  11. Can’t believe we sat through the rebuild to have the fossil of TLR man the wheel.

  12. Maybe I'm missing something, but did I miss the part of the thread where someone complains that this will take AB's away from Gavin Sheets? Low-cost move that solidifies the OF. Doesn't make us worse, but definitely doesn't change the fact that RF still a huge need.

  13. We are talking about a minor league reliever here, which is about a half step above cash considerations. Let go of the Pearls.

  14. From a marketing perspective those are all a step back. The varied options was always a big selling point to me. I liked the Corona on tap but not a big Modelo fan for the seats.

  15. I mean, after the past two years, you can give people a pass. Maybe whatever issue he was dealing with was unrelated to the pandemic, but it certainly can't be ruled out.

  17. Guys after organizing our fan power to try fire hahn, tlr, and southpaw, I think our next act should be to try and replace the goose with something we prefer. Miller and Coors never had leo burnett create a dumb animal spokesperson, so we have complete freedom here. The goose was beautiful, it was frightening, I both wanted it pristine but also desperately wanted to see it get what it deserved (hit with a baseball because it chased me on golf courses). This is the best replacement I could do, with the pristigious, punchable piping plovers

  18. Yes, he was. He just went 0-2 with a K in yesterday's game. He was competing for a starting outfield spot last year in spring training but got hurt. He missed a month or so. When he returned, he played in only 9 games before leaving the team for personal reasons. This guy is very interesting if you look at his career stats (minors and MLB). He was the 8th overall pick and moved through the minors nicely while hitting the ball at every level (for example, in AA in 2018, he had an OBP of .403 and slugged .478). Then it seemed like things sort of fell apart the last couple of years. Perhaps the personal stuff played a part in that. I'm guessing he lost all confidence. Stick him in Charlotte and hope he can get his confidence back.

  19. I'd be pretty shocked if this was anything more than a depth move. They're clearly rolling with AV in RF and Eloy in LF, which has already proven to be (not that it needed any proof) a risky proposition several times. This just looks like a depth move to me. Not even sure he's going to break camp with the Sox. Certainly am not penciling him in as the strong side platoon with Engel in RF.

  20. He's better than 2018 Adam Engel, worse than every iteration after.

  21. Strange move for Phillies, as they have no outfield depth.

  22. Truly is incredible. I gave them the benefit of the doubt on the front end of this restarted offseason as there was still plenty of time on the clock. But we're at the the 11th hour, no moves appear to be in sight, and at this point it can be anointed nothing short of an embarrassing offseason. Truly don't understand the strategy and lack of moves. Thankfully we still have an elite team as is that should win this division going away, but its incredible that they didn't add a RF and at least at serviceable backend SP to compete with Keuchel.

  23. I still can't believe we didn't improve the team in any way this offseason. How is that possible lol

  26. I guess Tony LaRussa was wrong. Or just a dick

  27. It's almost like the other 29 teams out there realized the same thing and knew they could chance them on waivers in six months.

  28. Given the options, this is a great pickup for the price. At a bare minimum, he should replace Rutherford as the primary OF depth piece at AAA.

  29. Interesting. Still a spot for someone with Yermin likely headed to 60 day IL.

  30. Bah, a “warm body who can play a few games when someone is hurt” has some value when we’ve already got an OF who will probably miss opening day.

  31. This feels like Nick Williams part 2. Both he and Williams were actually decent at one point, but kind of fell off for some reason. What's interesting is that Haseley used to be fast and a good defender (70% sprint speed) but has since fallen off big time (47% sprint speed the last 2 years). I'm not sure what happened to his speed.

  32. I just hope they still have Modelo conveniently located all over the park. The Modelo draft is hard to beat.

  33. One thing is man could we please get coke instead of pepsi? I don't understand why they hate their fans so much.

  34. Yeah, it sounds like I don't have to worry about him dying in the OF so that is nice.

  35. Post-hype change of scenery candidates are great as depth, less great when plugged directly into a contending lineup. I’m not sure he’s better than Adam Engel. But it’s good to have more actual outfielders on the roster?

  36. Madrigal has more power than haseley. I hope he ends up being one of these transformative players and my worst takes but anyway haseley sucks, I was glad we didn't get him in 17 or whatever, and Brian Goodwin is better thanks for my ted talk.

  37. Unless LaRussa has been eyeing him, and let's face it, if he was and wants him to play RF, he's no White Sox fan, you still can take fliers on guys. He was drafted very high, and started out OK. Change of scenery might be good.

  38. Does he have options left? If he does and it doesn't cost much, it's a fine pick up.

  39. Well, its not very exciting. But he's a lefty and a good fielder.

  40. This team has enough good players that it seems unlikely anything will kill them in terms of missing the playoffs. But…we saw last year how 2 more wins was the difference between home field advantage in the first round, and with the Byes this year seeding could be even more important. Whether it’s the manager giving away games, Lambert being the main backup plan, or keeping outfielders healthy, those little things in May could very readily have big leverage in October.

  41. I wasn’t accusing you of that, I just made a general statement about all the pitchforks around here. For sure all fair questions. I just meant that when you look at other rotations, there are few if any I’d trade straight up, all things considered. For example, the Blue Jays are getting a lot of media tugging for their rotation being the best in the AL East but I’d still take ours any day in the AL, probably the whole league.

  43. It’s not the 29 other teams we should be overly worried about. It’s the 11 other teams that make the post season, teams that they fared far worse against last year, and magically expect to be better against w/o substantial upgrades this time around. The FO deserves to be on blast for not improving the team that got their asses handed to them in 4 games last October. They promised us a team that could compete for multiple championships, but sure seem content with multiple AL Central championships instead.
