  1. Say what you will, the man knows how to handle his staff

  2. I am jacked up for this trade. Really think this will help us spank the competition. Collins wasn't a jerk, but he was really starting to rub me the wrong way. Now Grandal won't have to play with himself as the only legit catcher on the roster. This will give Tony a hand when setting the lineup when Grandal needs a day off. Not sure McGuire has much of an offensive stroke, but he can handle himself behind the plate and maybe he'll whack a few out of the park.

  4. The board is like a contest between Caufield and Jack to see who can be the biggest shit poster.

  5. This board has become full on insufferable. The White Sox not having a window beyond 2023 is 1 of the dumber things typed on the internet today

  6. Some is fine, just asking for moderation doesn't seem like a crazy ask.

  7. So I'm sure @Two-Gun Pete will still find something to complain about because that's his only shtick, but the fills the backup defensive catcher role.

  8. There's our defensive backup. Just need to make sure he keeps the masturbation to a minimum.

  10. You know who would be soooooo sick right now? Carlos Rodon. Too bad the Sox couldn't acquire him just for the year, and not have to make any long-term investment in him.

  11. Collins may be a better bat with a bit more of a ceiling at the plate, but he just never made enough contact to stick as a hitter. His framing and defense was also some of the worst in baseball last year. It was time to move on.

  12. What's more likely. Someone on this board being an optimist, or you being a pessimist?

  13. It’s so frustrating we gave away 6 years of Madrigal for that garbage.

  14. If Lynn didn't get hurt, I could see the "may" as being POSSIBLY justifiable. Now with the injury...there's no "may". It needs to happen.

  17. To give you an idea of just how bad Collins was last year defensively: The Sox as a team had a -40 DRS combined in 2021. Collins was responsible for -18 of that in 78 games. McGuire was +2 in the same amount of games.

  19. And by the board you do mean one or two know-nothing know-it-alls making nonsensical declarative statements based on zero information.

  20. The 19-year-old infielder that the A’s got would be a top 5 prospect in the Sox system. Sox equivalent is like Jose Rodriguez or Kath/Montgomery I’d think. Sox likely weren’t doing that for a 1 year guy. Teams just aren’t interested in Sheets and Burger it seems. Shocking I know.

  21. Mike Schmidt came up at same age as Vaughn, same number of at bats, lower first season OPS and he couldn't hit righties at all. The Phillies were not stupid enough to trade him for some 30 year old 5th starter. He went on to have a pretty good career and destroyed right handed pitchers the rest of the way. Maybe Vaughn could get better too. A .900 OPS hitter cost controlled for next five or six years that can play several positions might have some value. Although really, with our two year window, why bother being patient.

  22. They got a whole lot of nothing for him. White Sox could have beat that offer if they wanted to.

  24. Yeah, if you don’t count 80% of the rotation and a third of the lineup, we would probably be struggling.

  25. His agent informed him that he was being traded to the White Sox and Reese was interested...very interested....very very interested...and then he suddenly lost interest.

  30. Yeah me neither. They aren’t trading Vaughn. That would be idiotic. They don’t have much to trade though.

  31. IDGAF about Vaughn’s stats from last year. He skipped AA and AAA and hadn’t played in a game for over a year, and is a year removed from being a consensus top 20 prospect in the game as a 1B, and certainly would have been much higher if he played OF in college. He has enormous offensive upside. And on top of all that has more control than Keller. you have a lot of really bad takes, but this is up there.

  32. You mean the 79-83 Padres? The team with top 5 payroll full of old guys and bad contracts? The team that has won zero play off games since giving $300 million to Machado? The team that gave another $300 million contract to a guy constantly hurt? Yes every move the Padres make is one that Soxtalk wanted the Sox to do. Hmm.

  38. And what exactly in your minds eye would make it an "A", signing Semien (7 years $175 mil) and Conforto (turned down a 100 million) or some other free agent to a multi-year deal. It's not always about signing the best players to the biggest contracts. Look to The Padres who were willing to eat 30 millions of dollars just to shed themselves of Eric Hosmer's contract recently. Same thing will happen down the road when they're saddled with Machado's contract. My prediction is the Sox have a better chance of winning this year and beyond than the Padres. The Sox signed two of the top RP's in the free agent market, and rid our team of Kimbrel for Pollack which in itself is worth at least a "C" grade. I gave them a "B" based on the RP signings, getting rid of Kimbrel for a AJ, and preserving the future of our team by not spending foolishly on the two free agents everyone wanted on this team which would have raised our payroll by 40 million.
