  2. Yea I am sure if the owners won everything they wanted, these up charges wouldn't have happened ?

  3. Eloy is a generational hitter. He is a stud - his body looks like LeBron's , about 6'4" solid muscle. Vaughn will; be a good hitter but IMO, he will never generate the power numbers that Eloy will. Vaughn and Burger are arguably the same type of player, lthough I think Vaughn may hit for better average while Burger seems to have more of a home run cut and possibly more power. . I like them both, but please, neither one is on par with Eloy. I sense some people do not like Eloy for other reasons, but I am not sure what those reasons might be. Eloy is the heart and soul of this team. Eloy makes people smile and laugh and makes the game fun to watch. It's an added dimension to his game that other players just don't have.

  9. Eloy hit 45 home runs in his first 175 games at 23. He hit .296 at 23. He was hurt last year. Why would you hate him?

  10. I'll never understand people who will sit there and carry water for the owners. It's indefensible.

  12. Well....my time at Soxtalk has been pleasant. Before I go I'd like to apologize to anyone, real or implied, who was hurt by my inconsiderate and misguided attack on the BB. I will be checking in to a rehab facility tomorrow morning to deal with my obnoxiousness addiction. I hope to learn from this lesson and be welcomed back someday ?.

  14. It is only a matter of time until the owners will be installing pay toilets at the stadiums.

  15. Whatever the result of the CBA negotiations were, we always were going to be the loser as prices increase regardless. This is what you are not grasping. It's not a direct result from that or being on one side or the other.

  16. honestly nobody would care about this if they didn't disappear the goose or had they appropriately replaced it with a piping plover

  17. Sox hitters are 1st in xWOBA, and only 21st in wOBA. (.295 vs .383) Sox pitchers are 12th in xWOBA and 6th in wOBA. (.328 vs .291) We've gotten a little lucky on the pitching side, but its been surprisingly serviceable. Meanwhile we have been tremendously unlucky on offense. Still good enough to win all three series. Very promising start.

  18. It's a little different. You have to go to the grocery store and buy food. You have to buy necessities. You don't have to buy $12.25 Miller Lites at a Sox game. For shit you don't have to buy, prices really haven't risen that much. Cases of beer cost about the same. I was just wondering where others' tipping points were. Again, I went yesterday, maybe not the best day to observe, but there weren't people over indulging like I have seen at just about every game I have attended.

  19. It really sucks that prices are what they are today. And of course it hurts the kids the most. Adults will continue going to games because (1) they can more easily afford paying for just themselves, (2) they have fun tailgating and/or don't mind sticking to water during the game, and (3) the game itself is the focal point of the experience. For families with kids, it's totally different. A huge part of the experience for kids is eating hot dogs, drinking soda, having ice cream, picking something out in one of the gift shops, and the sights and sounds of the ballpark. The game is secondary to them. The increase in prices just means fewer families can afford to go and those who can will go less.

  20. NOW you get it. It has nothing to do with costs, but profits.

  21. You might not like the name, but he has a fair point. It's not like prices were cheap and just exploded after the lock out. Prices have been going up forever, and would have even if the poor destitute owners got every ridiculous demand they made.

  22. I typically don't complain about the "cost of going to a game" topic because this is what entertainment is. But seeing the Sox charging $7-8 for a bottle of water is insane. There should be outrage for this. I don't care if you charge $15 for a beer, but charging what they charge for a bottle of water or even Soda which they pay nickels for is gouging to the extreme. I've had season tickets since 2004 and really considering making this the last one.

  23. Funny that the owners won their expanded post season, the real money maker, and still saw fit to raise concessions prices. It is almost as if those of us who called them greedy were in fact right? Hmmm...

  25. This is so specious. Eloy gets one more year of stroking us around before going on the block. Bye mom!!

  26. Which means they have to use assets to acquire those pieces, instead of just cash, which they could have done this offseason. Additionally, the Houston Astros have made the ALCS 5 years in a row. That’s not luck. The Sox have lost in two consecutive ALDS and seemingly kept the car in neutral this offseason. Sorry for wanting more. Us Sox fans have really been spoiled, seeing the Sox win 3 playoff series the last 100 years (all in 2005 mind you.)

  27. So basically, best to avoid the team that has gone to five consecutive ALCS and three World Series...

  29. You can get peanuts from any of the various "street vendors" outside the park at a lower price and bring them in. That is allowed by the Sox. Also, hypothetically speaking of course, you can buy shooters from the great folks on the 35th street bridge and put them in a pocket before entering. Once inside you can just mix with a soda of choice. You support the local community and help curb the price gouging. That is just hypothetical of course and I would in no way encourage people to do such a thing

  35. Yea but you are drawing an extremely disingenuous straight line from the CBA to the vending price jumps and couching it with your argument before that they should just let the owners win.

  36. My "grasp" of this subject is just fine. When costs go up prices go up. If costs stay the same or go down...we have no idea if prices will go up or down. The problem some of you have is that you suspect prices always go up because JR and most owners are greedy. What I can't grasp is how long the game can survive this out-of-control cost to the ball fan.

  39. The name of the game in the mlb now is home runs. Teams routinely sacrifice some D in LF for power. Eloy is fast and gets to balls other players cannot. His height and a long reach helped him snag that ball on Opening Day which aided the victory. fans in the LF stands reacted and he acknowledged them with a tip of the hat and that smile. He also beat out a throw avoiding a DP which allowed the winning run to score. I go to games and evaluate players based on what I see. I don't buy into screeds like "he's a DH playing LF, is a danger to everyone around him.." I have never heard of roster decisions based on fear of injury. Almost every player will sustain some injury over the course of ST plus 162 games. Engel, Robert, Yasmani, Moncada, TA, Burger....all have had injuries (inc some serious ones) over the past few years. Anyway, speaking only for myself, I enjoy going to WSox games and seeing all the players in person, including Eloy . Again, IMO , I think he adds a lot to the fan experience with his personality and his performance on the field. I like the "Hi mom!" and his interactions with fans. His positive attitude is contagious. That is always a good thing in any field of endeavor.

  40. For the record if anyone else gets messages they deem as threatening, or otherwise inappropriate, please find a member of staff to forward them to. Obviously we aren't mind readers who know all PMs being sent on the site without prior knowledge, if something is over the line let us know. We take this site pretty seriously in terms of those kind of things. Now granted the OP seemed to be looking for problems from the start with asking about blocking posters in like his second post, but we do strive to thread the needle between a safe place to post, and a pretty open exchange of opinions and viewpoints.

  41. What's the buzz....tell me what's a happening....when will Cueto get called up?

  42. Yeah, the playoffs being somewhat of a crapshoot is not breaking news. I’d rather see the team that spent years losing on purpose in order to have a window of contention put themselves in the best possible position to succeed, rather than cross their fingers and hope for the best like some fringe contender. But I guess that’s just me!

  43. True. But this is a team with championship aspirations, not some feel good story underdog. It’s a waaaaaay too passive philosophy for my liking ?‍♂️

  45. I'd be ok with using Moncada or TA at 2B on occasion, depending on matchups and opponents. I dont think that using Moncada at 2B is downgrading defense as much as some believe. Plenty of orgs are comfortable moving players around, giving them the advantage of depth through versatility. But with Burger, he's been injured pretty much every season he's been a professional. And though he's improved in this area, his conditioning should continue to be a concern, until he proves otherwise.
    1 point
  46. Im in favor of never hearing this again. Moncada is a top 5 3rd baseman in baseball. Jake Burger is not.
    1 point
  47. Barring injuries to all of Harrison, Garcia, and Romy, neither Moncada nor Burger is moving to 2B this season. Not if there's one Soxtalk thread about it. Not if there are five Soxtalk threads about it. Not if there are fifty Soxtalk threads about it. Maybe if we get to 51 threads about it, then the Sox will consider it.

  48. Then I guess our entire staff was hurt? Lynn went an inning longer than Los but with a much worse line…3.2ip, 6 hits, 2 walks, and 5 earnies Gio…4.1ip, 3 hits, 5 walks, and 4 ER. Blaming health instead of rust combined with a hot Astros lineup is pure speculation. The fact SF looked at his health and committed money to him should tell you all you need to know. He threw 135 innings last season before supposedly “breaking down”. It’s not unreasonable to think he’ll be able to handle 155-175 this season. Letting Los go, after a really smart decision to bring him back, will go down as one of Rick’s worst decisions as GM. ETA: It’s with adding that this was the second season in a row the Sox put Los in a position to fail. In 2020, fresh off extended injury, they bring him out of the pen (for the first time in his entire career) in an elimination game. In 2021, they bring him in to start an elimination game after not having pitched for over a month. It’s tough enough to pitch in MLB, tougher still when you’ve been out for a while, and immeasurably tougher to do so in a fucking elimination playoff game where there’s ZERO room for error. Sox fucked him, plain and simple.
