You don't have to be a "fairweather fan" to avoid bad baseball, I watched next to none of the Cleveland series, they made it clear from the jump that they weren't taking the games seriously so I didn't bother watching. You don't HAVE to consume every second of the 162 games, that's unrealistic. Also, the assigning of "fairweather fan" is extremely gross especially coming from someone who admits he'd prefer the April games weren't even played.12 points

I have nothing of substance to add, I just truly hate the fact that Tony La Russa is in my life.8 points

He has one of the best eyes in baseball, is your highest paid hitter, and the pitcher on the mound can't find the zone. But @greg775 told me TLR is a great manager, it can't be debated!6 points

TLR can straight go F himself. Leury in any spot but 8th or 9th shows the game has passed him by and we are not a world series caliber team with him as manager.6 points

Or maybe, just maybe the fans who can walk away from that shitshow have some perspective. I’m 58. I discovered years ago that enjoying the wins and being able to shrug off the losses makes life much more enjoyable. Not to mention my son went 4-4 in the first game of a DH and was the winning pitcher, not that he pitched well, in game two. That trumps anything the Sox did, win or lose.5 points

This might be the worst manager the Sox have had in my lifetime. What a joke.4 points

My take away after the last few series: 1. Vaughn should not be in the outfield... ever. He flipped Harrison who was injured trying to avoid him. It is only a matter of time before Vaughn injurs himself diving into the ground or bulldozes Robert. 2. Burger might be as good of a hitter as Vaughn. Jake has been one of the bright spots on the team thus far. 3 Super Joe should be reigned in in terms of his aggressive "sends" . I did not see whether he put up a stop sign for Leury when he rounded 1st base, but he should have. If he did, Leury should have heeded it. 4. Bennetti needs to work on his tone of voice when a player hits a fly ball into the OF. His call often raises the expectation that a ball has a chance to leave the park, and then it ends up being a 300 ft deep fly-out. 5. Stone is just awful. I wish he would retire so that the Sox could hire another color commentator.4 points

Good post, I am 60 and it has taken years to learn that a sox loss wrecked my day. If the sox lost my whole day was ruined, my attitude sucked, food tasted bad and I would come to this board and hear how bad the sox were and it got me more depressed. There was no fun in watching the game and I would lose my summers because of my dedication. I cant do that anymore, so now I come to the board when I am bored or have a break and I always know the score through my phone but I wont sit endlessly through hours of baseball when there are far better things to do with family and friends. So when I take my wife to dinner I dont turn the game on the radio I play the music she likes. When my wife wants to watch a movie I dont say nope the game is on or go in the other room to get all worked up. I stopped getting into arguments with Cub fans, its just a waste of time. I still go to some games but now its more of an entertainment event rather than why the hell did he throw a fastball there? Or screaming get the bullpen up! I am still dedicated to this team as a fan but life gets real short when your my age and I want my time wasted... back.4 points

I envy them. I had a four hour drive yesterday that coincided almost exactly with the game. I'm pissed off the entire drive and well into the evening. Casual fan switched off the game, cranked some tunes, and watched the scenery go back happily oblivious to the carnage going on.3 points

Grandal has been not been good yet this year, but he’s a professional hitter and McGuire is a defensive catcher. It makes no sense. It’s like Tony wants to lose. They should fire his ass tonight.3 points

Its about Money Ball time. RH will have to cut or trade Leury or fire TLR3 points

Unless it is a brand of vodka, TLR couldn't care less about goodwill.3 points

Was hoping for more of a thread title like “White Sox have a new manager”3 points

Stretches, both good and bad, at the beginning and end of a season are often times magnified much greater than they should be. They're not different than a sweep in July or August but because fans are more invested and watching more diligently early and late, the bad stretch is magnified. Bad series will always happen. The most concerning thing for me is that La Russa learned nothing from last year and is still obsessed with garcia, distrusting in Vaughn, and oblivious to optimal lineups - instead content with going with his stubborn, illogical and ignorant gut. Strategically this team will have to overcome his incompetence again which is disheartening.3 points

I can't believe we are having a conversation about the top 6 hitters without including Leury.3 points

When the TLR rumors came out last year from Bob, we all thought it was a joke but classic White Sox doing something weird. When it actually happened, it was this huge black cloud over a team we all should have been some amped for. Nothing has changed.3 points

Leury must be sleeping with someone’s wife, as he’s making it a habit of being in the wrong slot on a daily basis.2 points

The amazing thing is lineups really don't matter most of the time; it's almost like Tony heard about that from stat "nerds" and wanted to challenge it. So he's gone out of his way to harm his team by throwing out bad players and bad lineups that deprive his best players of getting the most AB's.2 points

It's a waste of a roster spot on Engel if you aren't even going to start him in CF when Robert is out.2 points

Everyone needs to take a chill pill. We are .500 12 games into a season where are two best pitchers are on the DL. It’s freaking early. I get it - they had a bad last 3 games but geeze it’s baseball. This team is still really good. Sit back and enjoy what will be a fun season (even if front office and mgr were dolts in there ability to make a strong team even stronger…which they were).2 points

Agree on the pitching and 2B but I can't agree completely about Eloy just yet. He may be hitting badly at the moment but his BA is better than Abreu, Sheets, Robert and Grandal. Mind you all of the above named are doing badly at the moment, I'm just hoping the warmer weather has an impact eventually! With Eloy if he is still like this by the All Star Break then it may be time to move on from him.2 points

If this keeps up, someone at least has to try to fire Tony. They aren't just losing. They aren't just injured. They are playing terrible fundamental baseball right now. It was the one thing he was supposed to bring to this team, and it looks no different than what everyone used to scream at Ricky about. Here we are about 170 regular season games, plus a few post season ones later, and this team hasn't improved at all. If it goes another month like this, SOMEONE has to have their head chopped off.2 points

Sox fans have always been fairweather fans. In general they pride themselves on it, except when you use the phrase "fairweather fans". I know some feel you aren't a real fan unless you are throwing temper tantrums, but it is a damned game. If it isn't fun, why are you subjecting yourself to misery? With all of the things you HAVE to care about in the world, baseball isn't one of them. Get enjoyment out of it, or get it out of your life.2 points

I can feel my brain turning into a black hole that will consume all mass around me as I read this post.2 points

Yeah no thanks…dude should be criticized for making epically bad baseball decisions and not get a free pass because the team is talented to still win despite his best efforts.2 points

He simply won't stop hitting. However, the dude is 25. Send his ass to AAA or call him up.2 points
