  1. Bryon Buxton just hit the longest walkoff homer in the modern era. Bat flip away bro. You earned it.

  2. I doubt Baldelli headed over to the Sox clubhouse after the game to personally apologize for the bat flips.

  3. Bat flip is the last thing that bothers me about that home run. In fact that doesn't bother me at all and players should do more of that when they walk off their division rival predicted to go to the playoffs

  4. I feel like people aren't understanding the question here. Yes, making the playoffs is always better than not making the playoffs. But the question specifically states the Sox lose in the first round (for the 3rd year in a row.) The question is worded specifically so there is no "Well if you make the playoffs, you never know what will happen!" We do know what will happen, and that's them going out in the first round again. And as @flavum said, at that point it's the same as not making the postseason at all, so if means TLR gets canned.....the option seems easy.

  5. I'm confident the manager of my local Applebee's could've led this team to a better record.

  7. His ERA is currently 15. He would need to give up 10 runs without getting an out for that to happen.

  8. For this team, in its post-rebuild window, not making the playoffs and falling short of the ALCS is the same thing to me. I’d take La Russa being replaced next year.

  12. Hell, I would rehire literally any Sox manager back to Terry Bevington, and I might think about him.

  13. Had the entire Twins dugout done a bat flip in front of the dugout I would have considered it to be justified as far as that bomb was hit!

  17. Winding your way down on 35th Street Light in your head and dead on your feet Well, another crazy day You'll drink the night away And forget about ev'rything This baseball team makes you feel so old It's got so many fans, but you've got no soul And it's taken you so long To find out you were wrong When you thought you knew everything You used to think that it was so easy You used to say that it was so easy But you're dryin', you're dryin' out Another year and then we'd be happy Just one more year and then we'd be happy But you're fired, you're fired now (sax solo)

  18. Yeah, before the Reinhorn reign it was Caray/Piersall, Nancy Faust, Andy the clown, and arriving an hour and a half early to catch batting practice homeruns from both teams. Now after 40 years of the Reinhorn era we have a sanitized experience with restricted park sections, piped in music, a cutesy mascot, yes men broadcasters, and corny pizza slice race videos on the scoreboard.

  19. I don't know how much this has been discussed, but one of the biggest problems seems to be TLR's insistence on playing platoon advantages that don't exist and alternating L/R in the order. Leury was worse vs RHP in 2021 than all of these RH hitters: Robert, Anderson, Jimenez, Abreu, Engel, Burger. He was better than Vaughn but that was Vaughn's rookie year and I don't think anybody expects Vaughn to be worse than Leury vs RHP this year. There's no platoon advantage with Leury, and most definitely not one that justifies moving him up in the order to break up a string of RH hitters. Also, with the 3 batter rule for relievers, it's much less important to alternate your LH/RH bats in a lineup. On top off all of that, while they guys on the team may like Leury, they're probably all very aware that he's not a top of the order bat and that has to be bad for morale to see these lineups.

  21. I don't know why anyone would be surprised. Hawk took a lot of heat for firing him, and he probably went about it wrong, especially his very public pursuit of Billy Martin. But this is the same stuff that upset people 35 years ago. The guy is a product of managing jugernauts. As soon as Oakland stopped paying everyone, they sucked and he went to the Cardinals. He's no genius. Never has been. Owes his roster everything. It's the only reason he can say he is a hall of fame baseball person. If he went to the Twins or Brewers or the Padres instead of a loaded A's roster ready to win, he just would have been another guy.

  22. These two things can both be true: -TLR has forgotten more about baseball than any of us on this board will ever know..... and -TLR has forgotten EVERYTHING he ever knew about baseball and is a complete empty shell on the bench

  30. The level of competition is still going to be higher in AAA and there's almost no one at any level of AAA or the majors who sustains a walk rate that high. Particularly when they don't hit for power. A 19.4% BB rate is also a huge outlier for Yolbert's career so far. I think Yolbert's bat should play well in AAA and potentially the majors, but I would be shocked if he keeps posting Mike Trout level walk rates going forward for a variety of reasons. Settling in close to 10% would be great for someone with his profile.

  31. This franchise got universal attention around baseball for the 6 error game and the literal worst ever hitting of Leury Garcia in the 3rd slot. They have also gotten a ton of attention for pitching to Buxton with a base open.

  32. Greg , the Sox would not be mocked for firing TLR. Just like a player who has lost the physical gifts that once made them great, TLR is no longer able to put that HOF ego behind and manage with any sort of competence. He is a relic , a fossil from a bygone era, exhumed from the tar pits of Reinsdorf's mind.

  33. Well I will say this much, the White Sox are getting proved right at least so far with this kid. NO one thought he could hit, and he even hit in Birmingham, which is the ultimate test.

  34. Why would anyone think Carlton Fisk would make a good manager in 2022? He’s 74 years old and hasn’t been around the game since he retired in 1993. The last time I heard anything about him in the news was when he caught drunk and sleeping behind the wheel of his pickup truck in a field in New Lenox.

  37. Right now we have the worst possible combination- a guy who has no idea what he’s doing and no professionalism, but insists he does, and an owner who has fully empowered him. A guy who doesn’t know what he’s doing, but still tries the best he can, who is willing to work with people, and who just tries to be professional is an upgrade just by trying.

  38. They do need fresh blood from the top down. But I would take a ‘company man’ or even a minor league coaching promotion over TLR at this point. Anyone not actively holding the team back.

  39. Even if TLR were to step down at this point, the Sox would almost certainly go with a 'Company Man' - IMO the worst of all possible worlds. This organization needs fresh blood in more than a few coaching, scouting, and management positions
