How could Lauer be the Sox best starter when Kopech would be the Brewers’ best starter?10 points

Absolutely bizarre he gets punished for just joshin his best friend.7 points

Black men always have the spotlight on them and have to be some sort of "upholder of their race" or some shit which is something us white dudes really don't have to ever think about. TA has done about as well as you possibly can on and off the field in his efforts to promote baseball and promote the success of under privileged kids. We are lucky to have him as a player on the team we all love and a guy like Donaldson knows nothing, about TA, about what he means to Chicago and what it means to be a black man in America. He can fuck off.5 points

"The White Sox Amateur City Elite (ACE) program provides a pathway to the game of baseball for more than 150 youth annually, while offering educational and mentorship programming aimed at pulling kids away from the dangers and potentially fatal distractions of Chicago’s violent neighborhoods. In 2007, recognizing the lack of opportunities for young people of color to get involved in the sport, the White Sox established the ACE program with three main objectives: Gain exposure for young ballplayers in Chicago’s under-served communities among college recruiters and scouts. Reverse the declining interest and participation in baseball among African Americans. Create a program that prepares each participant to succeed in life beyond the diamond." Tim has been a big supporter of ACE and has mentored players including the Cubs Ed Howard because he shares the goals of the ACE program. Any comments that malign Tim's efforts in that regard look like part of an Ultra-MAGA agenda.5 points

After a thread like this, the only question is who gets hurt right away.5 points

When Lindor signed his contract his was one of the best defensive and offensive shortstops.. Anderson couldn't snip is jock strap on D. If Anderson is a 250 million+ guy, I'd have to let him walk.5 points

And only a lucky grand slam away from being swept. They should sell Judge while he still has value.5 points

What is even more telling is NO ONE from NYY is defending him. Bro is out on an island, alone. Even Boone dumped on him.4 points

Breaking News: Josh Donaldson is a douchebag.4 points

Of course Donaldson is appealing. If he had any decency at all he'd publicly admit he shouldn't have said what he said, and make an effort to do better. He'd try to donate to TA's charity or something similar as a show of good faith that he REALLY didn't mean it, but wants to do better... to be a better person. Instead he is saying nothing and appealing. This is when your actions speak louder than your words.4 points

We still have him under control for 2.75 seasons. I don't think we need to worry about the extension quite yet. He'll be 32 in his first FA season....I'd love to keep him around, but he'll be at an age where you cannot really back up the truck. I say at least let 22 and 23 play out and see where we stand then. No reason to extend him right now unless he's willing to take (another) team friendly deal. Doubtful IMO.4 points

This “punishment“ is a freaking joke. MLB could have shown that racial discrimination is not tolerated, but talk is cheap and it’s easier to pay lip service to a cause than actually sending a message.3 points

People who are saying he shouldn’t have been suspended are absurd. he should be suspended for causing two dust ups against one team in one week as a baseline.3 points

I love Tim’s teammates/coaches sticking up for him. Needless to say, but no one on the Sox is buying Donaldson’s bullshit. How awful of a person do you have to be for Hendriks not to like you?3 points

Kinda hilarious that both of the last two seasons we went in think the rotation was fucked and then turned to wait do we have the best rotation in baseball?3 points
-
Lynn isn't even healthy yet, Cueto might just be smoke & mirrors, Cease looks incredible but he doesn't exactly have a long track record of these high level results, and Kopech while also looking incredible last night still has innings limitations to worry about. In this fraction of an instant they look like a top rotation on paper, but there are too many caveats and variables to declare them the best rotation going.3 points

Freddie Prinze, Jr.? Actually, Uribe is probably my all-time favorite "complementary" White Sox player...especially in terms of personality and how he was beloved by his teammates. I think Mark Buehrle even was willing to take a pay cut one year just to keep him around. That guy could drive a runner in from 3rd with less than 2 outs with the best of them, seemingly better than even Crede at that one aspect. Great great plus arm and excellent range. Had that one year after the trade where he was flirting with .400 after two months. That insane Montreal game we somehow lost where he had around 8 RBI's (pretty sure we messed up a bunt at the end) and it was started by one of the most unforgettably over hyped pitching prospects (Arnie Munoz). Shaped like a combination of a spark plug and weiner dog. You could always identify him on the field just by that alone. One of the most unorthodox/distinctive RH swings and follows throughs in recent memory. Surprising pop/power.3 points

Tim isn’t going around calling himself Jackie, it was a one off remark in an interview three fucking years ago. But apparently that’s enough for some people to handwave everything. I bet if Josh Donaldson called him the n-word, people here would be like “well, everything is racist nowadays, cAnCeL cUlTuRe“ When even Tony LaRussa calls you out for being racist, you know you fucked up.3 points

I agree with Jack Parkman. Hopefully the FO has the guts to trade everyone by the trade deadline and not wait until the offseason. Nice DH win. Pitching, pitching, pitching.3 points

If Uribe would have done that wearing pinstripes (or even in a Red Sox uniform), there would be an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on the catch. They would interview the fans in the area, who would talk about Uribe in reverence. They would have statements from the nacho vendor in the area. Joe Buck would have even said something positive to describe it.3 points

…when healthy… I’ll take Lynn/Giolito/Kopech/Cease/Cueto over any other starting 5 in MLB this season. Who’s better?2 points

Yankees fans are scum, some of the posts on this on their forums are racist as fuck. Much worse than Donaldsons words.2 points

The same deadspin that incorrectly went after the biracial 49ers coach Mike McDaniel saying that he shouldn't be a head coach because he is white? I don't understand how the new Deadspin has any readers.2 points

I would love to see TA become a true White Sox legend, retired number and all, but we have a while before we worry about that next deal.2 points
-
Kopech, Gio and Cease are among the best top of rotation starters in baseball now. Lynn and Cueto are about as good as can be expected for the bottom of the rotation. Keuchel is surplsage. I would make Kelly the Closer.2 points

This right here really makes the most sense to me. He's still signed for 2+ years, there's no need to engage in extension talk unless he knows he wants to stay and is willing to trade some $$ to lock in those years. This is not a bridge that needs to be crossed until we get there.2 points

Does this really need to be a topic for discussion right now? While we have him for next year and 2024?2 points

Brewers. Eric Lauer would be the Sox best starter, and he's the Brewers #4.2 points

Not sure why the Sox would be worried about this yet. They have two incredibly cheap years left. Unless TA is willing to tear up those last two years to get a little bit more money, to extend for another 2-3 years at below market value to make up from the extra cash in 23/24 I don't see how a deal makes sense yet.2 points
-
This premise makes very little sense from a baseball standpoint. He’s signed for the next 2 1/2 years. That’s a long time. 2 1/2 years ago, Ivan Nova lead the Sox in innings pitched. He’s also playing at the absolute highest level he’s ever played at. I could not think of a worst time to sit down at the table with him and his agent. There is zero reason, other than sentiment, for the Sox to engage in extension talks with Anderson right now. See how the next few seasons go. Who knows what the makeup of the team looks like in a few years. If this all goes to shit, I wouldn’t want a 32 year SS locked up for 6/7 more years. If things are going well in two years….you have the discussion. But generally speaking, giving a long term deal for an ultra-athletic player during his age 33-37 seasons seems like a bad idea. You’re paying for past production, not what you believe he will do during those future years.2 points

In the interest of "fair play," I'm sure Jeff Passan will mention this when he writes his obligatory column about this over the next week or so.2 points

It's wild, if Donaldson said or did just about anything else, everyone would be fully on the Josh Donaldson is an asshole train. But for this... "Oh it was just an inside joke, he said so himself!" "He didn't mean it like that" "TA is too arrogant, he brought it upon himself." Gee, I wonder why...2 points

There are so many people on this forum showing their asses on this issue. This isn’t about a disagreement or a matter of opinion, it‘s caping for an asshat who made a racist remark.2 points

Wow, imagine Sox fans immediately taking Josh fucking Donaldson’s word for it in a skirmish with the face of the White Sox franchise. How weird. Must be a pretty powerful countervailing interest at work there. Wonder what that is…2 points
