Also special shot out to Jack Parkman here for getting the release completely wrong, as usual.10 points

Finally happened, thank God. But celebrating is acknowledging another link in the long chain for Rick Hahn's failures as GM. He's probably doing the same eat pie shit come next season for Grandal. Rick Hahn should have been fired today along with Dallas Keuchel.8 points

We are not a good baseball team. Nothing about this team says they wake up. They have morphed into their manager WE ARE WHAT WE ARE6 points

Ramos HR! Also has a double today. Also, please keep the miserable shit posting out of minor league threads. This is where I hide from the major league club. ?6 points

"I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there's a drive into deep left field by Story and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 6-0 ballgame. I don't know if I'm going to be putting on this uniform again."5 points

The answer is simple and swift: when JR decided to hire TLR to manage this team.5 points

The quality of contact now, versus the start of the season seems drastically better. It's also super refreshing to see someone with a plan at the plate. He actually takes pitches and shows selectivity.4 points

I find them extremely unlikeable and unwatchable at this point. At least Renteria’s team played hard, this team seems to have taken on the corpse of TLR’s demeanor.4 points

As one of the few positive posters on Soxtalk, I've been pretty quiet since the season began. The team is just very disappointing on many levels. That doesn't mean it can't rally, but so far, so much of it has been unwatchable. On offense, only Tim Anderson and Andrew Vaughn are above .800 OPS on the season. And only 4 players are above 100 wRC+. Robert and Abreu are the other two. (Not counting Danny Mendick and his 26 PAs). So many others have flat out stunk. Where is Yasmani Grandal, and why is he getting so many ABs at DH? Where is AJ Pollock? Yoan Moncada? You make us yearn for Jake Burger, and your contract is about to be a major albatross around the Sox' neck. For pitching, Michael Kopech has been stellar. Lucas Giolito has also pitched well when he's been available. Johnny Cueto has been amazing in two starts. And even Dylan Cease has done pretty well, though he's also been blown up in 2 of his last 3 starts, which dropped his ERA+ down to 92. In the bullpen, there have been good performances, but also let downs. Matt Foster is one of the bright spots there. On defense, it seems to have stabilized, but there were some early games lost with poor defense, including errors by Tim Anderson, the otherwise star of the team. I won't break down Tony LaRussa other than to say he's made many inexcusable mistakes for a HOF manager. We often overrate "moves" by a manager, and underrate how a manager gets a team to play hard, but even on the latter score, TLR has not done well. There seems to be no team discipline. Rick Hahn and the Sox front office? My biggest problem was not keeping Carlos Rodon, though after starting out with a great first month, he's been roughed up lately and is only 4-4 with a 113 ERA+. But other moves have not worked. Joe Kelly? He can't stay healthy. Not sure Ryan Tepera was the answer, as he's at a 95 ERA+ right now. But they spent a lot of money on Kelly and he hasn't given the Sox anything. AJ Pollock? Seemed like a great trade at the time. Good for a 70 OPS+ when he can play, which has had major gaps. Josh Harrison? Why? Frankly Danny Mendick would have been a better bridge to minor league guys. His money could have gone to keeping Rodon. At least the Nick Madrigal trade hasn't bit us, with Madrigal hurt and sporting a 40 OPS+. Will you finally cut Dallas Keuchel? By keeping him you send the team the wrong message, while losing games you can't afford to lose. He was such a bad signing. Without his contract, the Sox definitely could have afforded Rodon. So there you have it. The players, the manager, and the front office have all performed very poorly this year. I will leave with one final note. 1983. In the first half the team was 40-37. In the second half they were 59-26. TLR was the manager. Not saying it will happen again. But last year, the Atlanta Braves were 44-45 at one point on their way to the World Series.3 points

I'm not even really upset and I'm just sad and let down. We waited so long and it appears half the guys we were banking on sorta just suck or are not the version we were banking on. Hate to go all Jack here but it's really sad how few real assets remain in the system. It's once again a stars and scrubs team and the stars are hurt way too often.3 points

No offense to you, but the Sox need to play ball and not worry about saving players and resting players. It's annoying. Just play the game and get hot, White Sox.3 points

i think part of the reason every study reaches that conclusion is no other teams are dumb enough to have a manager that the game passed by decades earlier3 points

I just can’t believe any competent baseball person thought a Leury-Harrison platoon at 2B made a lick of sense.3 points

Geez. How many times do we uninformed fans have to say you can't just wish a guy had average wheels and can score on a hit from second base. He had NO CHANCE. It takes a Little League coach to understand that. He was out by the proverbial mile. addendum: Sox still conceivably can beat these bums, or they could pull a Red Sox and lose 16-4.3 points

They've won 1 championship in 100 years. They were beat soundly the last 2 postseasons. They hadn't made the playoffs in 12 years prior to 2020. Maybe nothing has changed because things are the same as they ever were and they aren't a good organization?3 points

Tyler Naquin is a LH right fielder, whom I suggested, before the season began. He hits RHP pretty well and is a legit right fielder. He'll be a FA, at the end of the season. He shouldn't cost much in prospect capital and could give his at bats, vs LHP to Pollock, or Engel. He's the best affordable option for a trade acquisition, whom I can think of bringing in, to try to jump start this offense. The Sox desperately need a legit bat, from the left side. Depending upon Grandal, Moncada and Sheets for that role has proven to be folly. It was always risky, but has gone about as badly as most of our worst fears.2 points

That doesn't make any sense...and I can't ever see the owners being ok with that.2 points

He said we couldn’t release Keuchel because he read somewhere that in the new CBA if you DFA someone you are on the hook for any potential vesting option even with a different team.2 points

I wonder if his "I have leeway" comment went down poorly with the coaching staff. If thats what did it, LOL.2 points

That's what he gets for opening his mouth. Getting DFAed is bad enough, but for Mendick? This is as bottom as rock bottom gets2 points

Not signing Machado. It would have meant complete buy-in from Jerry, but also, subsequent moves would just naturally look different. Grandal, Keuchel, or expensive relievers are getting nixed heavily in this scenario. The team likely trades Madrigal as a prospect, since Machado-Anderson-Moncada is now your infield. TLR is revolted at the idea of managing Machado, doesn't even entertain Jerry's offer.2 points

From my viewpoint, the underlying cause of all of the problems is not relying enough on analytics. Management not emphasizing analytics enough when hiring the coaching staff, both at the major and minor league levels. Management not utilizing analytics when making player decisions, both at the major league level and in the draft. The coaching staff not utilizing analytics when coaching the players and making decisions about playing time. Of course, this ultimately falls on the owner. He's the one who hires the President/GM who aren't using analytics enough. If I were to somehow magically inherit the Sox, the first thing I would do is offer every single member of the Tampa front office a 50% salary increase to come take the same position with the Sox.2 points
