There is no roster crunch save for TLR making one. Sheets & Harrison can and should be the first to go. Neither contribute much nor offer anything special or unique to the roster. Both are sub-replacement level and won’t be missed. They have already sent Burger & Mendick down to keep the aforementioned, no reason to do it again when the former are actually contributing and the later aren’t.5 points

I think we've all been a little bit too hard on Tony LaRussa. Last year's biggest controversy was a player swinging at a 3-0 pitch when the team was ahead by 10+ runs and he's totally eliminated that problem this year.4 points

Sometime within the next couple weeks, Eloy Jimenez and Tim Anderson will return from the IL. Barring additional injuries (which always seems more likely than not), two players will need to go. I've listed all six possibilities here. (I'm not including any discussion about Grandal because in the very unlikely event they moved/released him, it would be for another catcher and not Eloy or TA). Gavin Sheets - Case for him to go: Can be optioned, has a .601 OPS overall and only .648 vs RHP, doesn't play any position well other than 1B. Providing no value of any kind to the team at all. Case for him to stay: there really isn't one at this point The more difficult decision is the second one to go. Jake Burger - Case for him to go: Can be optioned, assuming that Moncada is not headed for another IL stint, Burger is blocked at his position, he's also been dreadful vs RHP with a .580 OPS which is also the team's biggest weakness. Case for him to stay: He's been the biggest spark for this team the past week and is crushing lefties to the tune of a 1.174 OPS. There's clearly a scenario where he sticks around, getting 1-2 starts a week at 3B and also getting DH time vs LHP. Danny Mendick - Case for him to go: When Anderson comes back, becomes one of four middle infielders on the roster, and he's the only one who can be optioned. Despite his hot start this season, has a .662 career OPS and isn't likely to keep it up. Case for him to stay: Right now he's outproducing Harrison and Garcia by a lot, could be sending the wrong message to the team to keep those two and send Mendick down. Josh Harrison - Case for him to go: Putrid .541 OPS to date, costs less to release than Leury. Case for him to stay - costs more to release than optioning Mendick, has been hot this past week and might be turning things around Leury Garcia - Case for him to go: absolutely obscene .464 OPS negates any value he has as a switch hitter, Vaughn's ability to play OF and Mendick's ability to play all IF positions negates his value as a utility player. Case for him to stay - would cost a lot to release, longest tenured Sox player, manager favorite. Who I think should go: Sheets, then Garcia Who I think will go: Sheets, then Mendick3 points

Is this the Jack Parkman thread ? Keep feeding him and he'll follow you home.3 points

I am in favor of riding hot hands. It's hard because you know if Harrison is dfa'd he'll get picked up and have a better half but I really think at this point we have some vets that are way too comfortable. Not Abreu or even grandal, but I do kinda want the sox to tell moncada he's fighting for a starting spot. Nobody wants to buy a logo of a backup infielder.3 points

Sheets needs to go, then Harrison. Much prefer Danny's glove and, I can't believe I'm saying this, bat.3 points

There is less than zero % chance that Leury is going anywhere. It won't happen, at any point during his contract. Sheets will go to Charlotte, then Mendick will follow, unless they get creative with an "injury".3 points

Yep. You came here to say no Monday games but ACL and DSL begin today! Monday baseball!! One day and one night game. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/stats/affiliates?teamId=145&date=06/06/2022 FYI the MILB link shows no games. Almost got me.2 points

Lol c'mon, Judge, Trea Turner, deGrom? Sox will never bid on those guys. Jerry is scared of that long-term commitment. I assume the Sox will sign middling players to shorter deals per usual.2 points

Can we vote for Luis Gonzalez? No? He plays for the Giants now? Oh ok…2 points

Let's go Maximum Tony: TA - C Robert - DH Moncada - SS Abreu - 3B Grandal - 1B Eloy - RF Pollock - CF Burger - 2B Vaughn - LF McGuire - P2 points

I can't believe its 2022 and during our "window" and I just typed multiple paragraphs about sheets, mendick, harrison and leury ... and at the end of it ... support mendick being on the team. fuck.2 points

Stop watching sports. For real. You haven’t grasped the point or understand what it means to be a fan. It’s not for you.2 points

Watching a more talented team this year play with no energy or execution should make you appreciate 2005 so much more.2 points
-
Parkman, seriously, go torment some other teams fans. If you can't appreciate one of the best teams to ever win a World Series, then you really shouldn't follow this team.2 points

I don't think Giolito has missed a start due to an elbow or shoulder injury since getting traded to the Sox. I don't think there's a sustainable path forward for the Sox to contend without locking up one of Cease or Lucas long-term. My preference at this point would be for Lucas, but if they traded him and then paid up for Cease, that would also be fine with me. But I think the important thing is getting a long-term deal in place with one of those 2 guys. The Sox minor league pitching development seems , uhm.. not quite at Dodgers levels let's say, and there isn't a strong pipeline of guys ready to fill the void if you let Lucas and Lynn both walk after next season. I also don't trust Hahn at all to reallocate the ~20-25M Lucas' extension would take up in a more efficient manor. His bargain/2nd tier level FA signings have been absolutely horrific so I think paying up for a pitcher that's been extremely productive, durable, seems to have a very good work ethic, etc etc etc would be in the Sox long-term best interests even though I understand the inherent risks of signing any pitcher to a long-term big $ deal.1 point

Here is the AZL preview I wrote today for anyone interested: https://soxmachine.com/general/2022-white-sox-affiliate-preview-arizona-complex-league-rookie/ And here’s the DSL preview: https://soxmachine.com/general/2022-white-sox-affiliate-preview-dominican-summer-league-rookie/ No Erick Hernandez or Loidel Chapellí in DSL today. I would hope they would give Yolbert a shot before rushing Sosa to the bigs, but it would be very White Sox to do so.1 point

They absolutely were. They hadn't won a post-season series in the 88 years prior and haven't won another one since then, I mean it was fun as hell at the time and I'll never forget it but that's kinda the definition of a fluke.1 point

I feel that way too as I am in my late 60's. I really thought the Sox would put a string of great seasons together after 2005. Didn't happen. Still, it is my opinion that the Konerko grand slam in game two is the greatest moment in franchise history. And Konerko was one of the most popular players in franchise history. Konerko was one of the reasons I came to the ball park. My favorite Sox player of all time.1 point

Jack it's never about saying what you want to say. It's about you setting the board on fire, doubling down 40 times, and then saying "that's not what I meant to say" every year1 point

2005 was just fake and means nothing. Why is it every year Jack explains yet again why he hates sports? Stop asking him1 point

Dunno much about the Prospects Live folk(s), but people post the mocks here occasionally. https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2022-mlb-mock-draft-n78w7-st9r4 They have Gilbert going 17th and Rocker going 22nd since that seems to be the discourse of the hour. BA scouting report on Toman below. Have him ranked 70th in the class.1 point

But you could have maybe gotten something better. Wonder if Bregman could have been had? Or Devers? This clearly could turn out a win-win.. But as it stands, the Red Sox got the better deal, given they won the world series and Sale was a massive part of that1 point

Sheets to me is the no brainer. As you mentioned he hasn't done anything well and can be optioned. Playing lefty/righty is nice in theory ... that said when he's not producing regardless of matchups who cares? You can put a scarecrow up there and its the same results. when you have a full lineup its some sort of mix of Eloy at DH/LF, Vaughn in RF/LF/DH/1B, Pollock in LF/RF, Engel as your backup OF. 1B is already crowded enough between Abreu and hopefully Yaz/Vaughn for the other days. Sheets isn't good and doesn't have a home. He's AAAA player. Second choice to me is easy as well ... barring some sort of amazing week or two, Harrison is a mid thirties guy on a one year deal. seems like a decent guy and all and wish him well, but his track record is what it is. he's probably due for a hot streak, but at this point he's had his chance and if he doesn't get hot when the crunch comes? cut bait. If he is hot? then mendick gets the squeeze. Listen, I hate Leury as much as many, but if you look at some of his underlying hard hit data + if you look at his track record in the field? Plus take into consideration his contract? He's on this team no matter what and actually does have value when properly deployed ... aka 2-3 games a week bouncing around and HITTING 7TH-9TH in the lineup. Burger is what he is right now ... a spark, but one with many holes in his game still. It's easy to forget sometimes that the kid was out of baseball for like 2+ years. i think he's doing an admirable job and I'd love to see him in lineups at 3b, dh, and 2b as much as it's realistic. I'd also like to see Moncada shift around to 2b a bit. 3b is still his and should be, but with the way he's playing he has to be a team player and bounce to 2b at least through Burgers hot streak or until Anderson is back. All hands on deck.1 point

I really hate saying this but you need serious help. This may be your most embarrassing take since joining this board and that’s saying something.1 point

Crazy how when Tony put all the guys who are hitting at the top together that we end up scoring more than 3 runs.1 point

Sox finish the season 11-8 vs Yankees/Rays/Red Sox and you'll take that in any season. 1-7 vs Guardians/Twins and 4-4 vs Royals is what's killing them right now.1 point

The entire fucking team does. When your manager has the energy of a corpse, what do people expect? They need an injection of energy and excitement in the dugout. TLR was one of the worst fits I've ever seen hired in any sport.1 point
