Lmao.... At least you're consistent with your undying loyalty to this fucking incompetent, demented dinosaur. Walking him was the wrong call based on every available data point on the fucking planet. And yet, here you are, completely ignoring the facts that contradict his braindead decision, and defending it.... It's like the people who still believe Trump won the 2020 election. Complete and total cognitive dissonance.12 points

He's actually the Trump of baseball. A completely delusional, narcissistic asshole, who thinks he's the smartest man in the room, when the reality is, he's a fucking imbecile.10 points

Please then explain why Tony the genius let him see 3 pitches before walking him? If a homer was coming 1st base being occupied meant nothing.7 points

There's a difference between physical errors and stupid decisions. Players are going to make physical errors, and when you don't have 8 guys who excel both offensively and defensively, you have to sacrifice a little bit of one, the other, or both. Burger made a physical error, albeit at the worst possible time. Cease failed at overcoming that error. Sousa appeared to be hustling to first and just got his footwork messed up. Making sound decisions using all the available data is what the manager needs to do in order to overcome the kinds of challenges that Burger at 3B and Sousa in the bullpen unavoidably present.7 points

I don't think they are unlucky. They think they are brilliant at playing the FA market, and have a set price to pay for player performance. Those prices are under market value for the best available players, and overmarket value for past their prime players. Sox budget 18 million for top position players, don't get them, then see productive, mid-30s DHs and say "holy crap we can get them for $14 million? That's a way better deal!" "$10 million for Escobar? We could get 34 year old josh harrison, who just had a pitiful second half, for half that! And he'd be 80% of Escobar! You can't really do negative numbers, but lo and behold escobar will be multiples more valuable than Harrison, who is another player unlikely to see another contract. "Sheesh, why pay for that guy when we can get 80% of him in Jon Jay?" Jon Jay's career ends. Back in the 2000s they were actually very good at this. They found veterans with years more life. But whether it be velo, or steroids, or whatever, the aging curve has either been stiffer or teams are smarter who they prevent going to FA. The sox still shop like it's the 2000s. They are also just very bad at mlb scouting. With most teams with a Reese McGuire/Seby Zevala being ahead of Carlos Perez to start the year you'd say "well he's not as good/isn't ready". With the sox I'm assuming he's an all star. They probably could outsource all of their scouting to a baseball america subscription and be better off / have way more money for other fun stuff.7 points

I love this because it's like "Trea Turner has hit home runs on counts before, we shouldn't pitch to him. Checkmate."6 points

The reaction would be nothing like this. Tony's stupidity is headlining national sports coverage. Even if Turner hit a bomb there it is nothing like a national media embarrassment. Not even in the same universe.5 points

Fans hate dumb decisions which lead to losses. Not sure why that doesn't bother you, but sure. Tell me why we were pitching at all to him if he was so dangerous? Even if you don't want to pitch TO him, you are ahead 1-2. Throw him a face high fastball, or something in the dirt. See if he will chase, and if he doesn't, oh well. But you have a huge advantage in the count, why not use it?5 points

Jerry has seen enough. He has had enough. Jerry will make TLR step down after today's performance. Jerry's loyalty has boundaries.5 points

Lmao at this level you don't quit. That's fucking bullshit. You quit when you are a low level manager who gets fucked around by a shitty manager, not when you have one of 30 jobs available in one of the premier leagues in the world. You make them fire you lmao i love when people tell other people to quit ?5 points

Maybe he likes his job and doesn’t want to move? I think it’s quite obvious that Hahn never wanted to hire TLR. He’s also not an idiot. While he did a piss poor job this offseason, he’s watching the same shit we are. He knows TLR is a train wreck. It’s just not his call. I don’t necessarily think that makes him a “yes man”, it just means it’s not his decision to make, right or wrong.5 points

Tony triples down on his stupidity after everyone in the world shows him he's wrong. This guy is the worst kind of stupid.4 points

For a guy who thinks he can GM the Sox you don't seem to know that Colas is in A+ ball now and is not an option for MLB this year.4 points

The Sox weren't prepared under Tony when the games mattered in 1983. Tony blew the WS as heavy favorites in 1988 and 1990. A large number of Sox fans wanted La Russa gone his first turn. Jerry found him a landing spot in Oakland. Two top FOs (Oakland and Saint Louis) plus Balco are the primary drivers of his win count.4 points
-
When LaRussa finally leaves, I hope the replacement is someone who has no prior association with the White Sox. Regardless, I no longer think the Sox are the favorites to win the AL Central.4 points

I don’t generally agree with many of your takes this year, but I appreciate the passion you have. I’m really frustrated too right now. I guess my advice let’s all be gentle with each other as fans and let’s commiserate. Let’s call this what it is - a bad manager who is too old, a cheap owner who is out of touch, a front office that is at best neutered and at worst incompetent. We still have talent. Let’s root for it. It doesn’t cost us anything. This has been a gut wrenching season. It reminds me of 2001, when we started 8-19, learned 2000 was a flash in the pan, and had to get behind a clown car of a staff led by a not really great David Wells. Then we lose Thomas to a triceps injury, and then we are forced to endure Royce Clayton’s historic .105 start. It was like a 1-2 sucker punch. There are some silver linings to this season: Andrew Vaughn’s numbers, Kopech and Cease continuing to solidify, Luis Robert looking good, Abreu looking like he may hold form. It isn’t what we wanted, but we have to embrace the bright spots. There’s nothing we can do about this owner, this manager, this front office except call it what it is and hope fo the best for our guys in black.4 points

Get Sosa 100 PA in AAA before the end of July and get him up in Chicago if he doesn't fall on his face. He's dominating AA and the underlying stats don't suggest a fluke.3 points

AJ has zero experience in any capacity. This would be a crushingly stupid decision that reeks of all of the previous hastily, loyally, and stupidly made coaching decisions3 points

I'll be honest; on the internet, I'm very brave and would walk out that door the minute I was undermined by Jerry to this level (if this fictitious scenario is even real), but in the real world I'd bet all I own that there's zero chance I'd give up an MLB GM job. Not exactly a lot of those going around.3 points

I really make this place worse. I do not like the poster I have become over the last 4 years or so. I haven't always been this way, though I have skewed on the cynical side. Shitting on the 05 team was really shitty and I wish I didn't do it. I feel really bad. Please bear with me as I try to get better. Peace, Parkman.3 points

They do, somewhat blindly. They look at something that has gotten more expensive since Biden took office and don’t give a damn about the underlying reasons which is stupid. I also am not sure that people know what the GOP will do to tackle inflation since they may not have much of a plan, only the pull to weaken the Democrats in congress. Lol Greg… Just because someone is to the left of center doesn’t mean they are leftists. There is such a thing as a moderate Democrat and a Problem Solvers caucus. You mention he doesn’t give a crap about the little guy and gal. What do you call the stimulus checks, the vaccines for the insured and uninsured, the unemployment checks and the child tax credit? If you follow what is going on with congress, you would know that he is unable to get the extension of the child tax credit, the prescription drug negotiations and parts of his economic agenda that Sinema and Manchin support through congress. Provisions that help the climate, reduce the deficit and are economically beneficial can’t get passed without those two senators. As for the huffing and puffing, the only evidence of that is when he told Doucey he was a jackass for his question on inflation and when he talked about the MAGA support which is not his base. We can debate whether or not he should be doing it but the fact is that he needs more support to get things passed. Let’s get those facts straight for the sake of discussion.3 points

The count means nothing. You risk a wild pitch by trying to half-ass get Turner to bite on pitches way out of the zone. The decision LaRussa had was whether it would be better for a pretty weak LH pitcher to face Trea Turner or Max Muncy. He made the wrong call and opened himself up to wild criticism from his most ardent critics. Trea hit a laser home run the night before so that may have had something to do with the decision. Easy one to criticize but there is a school of thought in many sports that states that you just don't let certain star players beat you, and take your chances with the rest. So Trea Turner vs Max Muncy?3 points
