https://southsideshowdown.com/2022/07/15/liam-hendriks-alludes-dallas-keuchel-clubhouse-problem/ Didn't see a thread for this yet. I've disliked Dallas for some time based on his shitty attitude and the fact that Liam would even imply this (even if it isn't true) makes him look that much worse. Seriously, fuck that guy, I hope he continues to crash and burn in AZ. What a shitty teammate.2 points

Who knows, because you know teams like the Dodgers and Padres are involved, and they've shown a willingness to do things the Sox won't. But this is the type of move that sends a big message. If I'm the Sox I' offering something like this: Eloy, Montgomery, Vera. --OR-- Vaughn, Colas, any non Vera pitcher. If they also want Sosa or Ramos or Popeye, I'm not hesitating. I don't think I'd trade Vaughn and Montgomery in the same deal. And honestly, I don't think I trade them at all if this isn't Juan Soto. Eloy is a but tricky. I really have no idea how teams would value him (I obviously value Vaughn a bit more highly). I love the guy. But he isn't a great fit (positionally), and we can't really depend on him. I don't think the Nats would scoff at Eloy and Montgomery or Vaughn and Colas. And yeah, Soto isn't signing an extension here. No way the Sox are giving half a billion dollars to a guy. But that still gives you 3 potential postseasons with one of the elite hitters in the game. Oh yeah, he hits left handed, and plays a position of need. Will it slam close the window after that? Maybe. But that window may be gone anyways. Take your best shot. Get the best player to make a run.2 points

And why is someone acting like we already have too many good players? And also cites Pollock as being one of them? Definitely plenty of space to take a chance on someone.2 points

Or, and this is really confusing so stick with me here, Sox fans want an elite OF LH bat to balance out this line up. Hopefully you followed that.2 points

I can’t believe people still trying/ hoping White Sox will get this stiff. All you guys calling for the Sox to go after this guy, just admit you were wrong. But no, you want to be proven correct. He’s of no value to the Sox at all. The same guys who complained about the Sox signing vets like VV or Harrison, want Sox to sign this guy in hopes he’ll be good NEXT year so they can say they were right all along for wanting the Sox to sign him before the season started, you know, back when Conforto was hiding his injury.2 points

Its funny how when you point out all of his flaws it's just stating a fact. However when you reviewed this thread of people stating all the same shit(admittedly with more frustration), your conclusion was that everyone here has some sort of political ax to grind2 points

He's played 3 games in AA, with a few weeks left in the season. Perhaps he is an in season call up in 2023 if he is promoted and can mash in AAA the first half of the year, but he is not on the Opening Day roster.2 points

I’d happily sign Conforto to a 2 year $15M deal whether he is ready to contribute this season or not.2 points

I don't believe for a minute that the Sox could afford taking on Corbin even if the Nats eat half his salary. Do you know how much Soto is going to make in arbitration for 2023 and 2024 ? It could set arbitration salary records. If you take on half of Corbin's salary plus Soto's arb. salaries for those 2.5 years your looking at maybe $40+M per year for Soto + Corbin who is useless to a contending team. If Corbin is in a deal for Soto it will be to one of the big spending teams. But I think in the end Corbin won't be a part of any deal unless the Nats eat way more than half his salary. The Sox have huge hill to climb if they want to get Soto and not have his presence diminished by trading Vaughn or Kopech. This is why it won't happen. The Nats would have to be interested in Eloy and that's a huge obstacle too. I give Seattle , Yanks or Dodgers the best shots at getting Soto.1 point

? Conforto does nothing for this team this season and hardly moves the needle for them next season. Soto is exactly the type of player the Sox should be going all in to acquire. An absolute perfect fit for this roster. Send Eloy, Sheets, Martin, and the entire farm system for all I care. Acquiring Soto to man LF everyday makes the Sox a bonafide contender this season and next. Vaughn can DH, spot start in OF and 1b. Engel/Pollock can cover RF well enough, especially when you’ve got them batting 8th in the lineup.1 point
-
Maybe 2 WAR season? The dude basically averaged 4.6 fWAR from 2017 to 2020 if you prorate his 2020 stats. He solves multiple needs if healthy (LH bat, power, OBP, average RF defense). I’m not even advocating for him because the health is a question mark and I’d like someone who can help us right now, but comparing him to 35 year old Josh Harrison is fucking ridiculous.1 point

You don't have to be the best team in baseball to win the World Series. If that was the case, this era of Dodgers teams would win every year. The Braves last season weren't even close to the best team, particularly after all of their injuries. Yet they won the World Series anyway. The Sox are absolutely capable of getting hot for 3 weeks in October and winning the World Series.1 point

Holy shit - Reading your posts is like a written depiction of Rick Hahn’s thought process and it’s very terrifying.1 point

I wonder if this a play to try to limit his market to get the Nats to offer him another deal instead of dumping him for scraps.1 point

“Why do all of our hitters swing at the first pitch?!?! How about we work the count a little for once??? Oh yeah, and why can’t we get some left handed power in our lineup??? Also, by the way, we need to get rid of Moncada and Grandal. Those guys are bums.”1 point
-
Because they're fans who are impatient and want success now. Sox need more players with the offensive profile of Moncada and Grandal (when playing to their abilities), not less.1 point

That is his bWAR for those seasons. fWAR values him even higher (4.8, 3.7, 4.4 and 2.0 in 60). Me.likey.Conforto1 point

And your assumptions aren’t huge? I love fWAR as much as the next guy but how hard is it to understand that the Sox need lineup balance and a left handed hitting 1.5 fWAR guy that balances the lineup and actually hits righties well is more valuable than more of the same on this roster that can’t hit a righty if he was throwing a chicago softball? Sox probably aren’t signing Conforto. But it’s just amazing to me that people can’t understand how badly this team needs a good left handed bat (or 3), even after watching this offense flail for 3 months. Conforto is the definition of a good left handed bat.1 point
-
He was actually the definition of average in 2021 as a hitter. He had an OPS+ of 100. Against RHP he was at 117, or 17% ABOVE average.1 point
-
That’s a YUGE assumption. I’ll take the under on a 1.4 fWAR betting line for next season. That’s a marginal upgrade at best.1 point
-
He's 29 years old. He had a shoulder surgery, he didn't die. He'll be fine. Whoever signs him to this pillow contract is going to be quite happy. And no, I am not friends with SCott Boras. I am a die hard white sox fan that see's this team sucks donkey dick against RHP and BADLY needs help from the left side, something Conforto can provide EVEN IF HE DOESN'T IMPROVE on his 2021 numbers.1 point
-
Give me Nimmo if you’re going to upgrade the OF. Not some guy coming off a major injury that hasn’t been better than an average starter in 2-3 years.1 point
-
Yet you want to focus on the smallest possible past performance and ignore the much larger sample size that doesn't fit your narrative. Convenient "analysis".1 point
-
So while you focus on his injury year, you ignore his previous years were 3.7, 2.7, 3.6 and 2.1 in a sixty game season.1 point
-
And for everyone citing Conforto’s career numbers just keep in mind past performance is not indicative of future results. We’re talking about a guy that put up 1.4 fWAR last season and 2.0 fWAR the season before. By next season he will be two years older than his 1.4 fWAR season and coming off an entire year of absence due to injury. If you drew the line in the sand at 1.4 fWAR for next season, I’d say betting odds are on the under. That doesn’t move the needle for this team. They need a real upgrade if they are adding an OF.1 point

This probably happens a lot, we just don't have high-resolution slow-mo cameras to pick it up every time. But still pretty cool to see.1 point

I wasn't debating whether someone does that. I was informing the gentleman that injuries are publicly described on the record as he was incorrect that injuries are kept confidential. Btw, people do check injury reports that play fantasy sports. As far as privacy of players and their injuries that you are alluding to, there is no federal law that protects players where can can demand their injuries be kept private and unreported. When you sign to play in one of the four professional leagues, you are under the legal bylaws of that league. The four professional leagues all have the right to publish the status of their players' injuries. In fact, the NFL is most strict about this and when NFL teams do not report the correct updated status of injuries they can be fined by the league. The players do not have the right by law to tell their team or league, to keep their injury a secret and unreported to the public. As I mentioned from the start in my reply, if you played fantasy sports you would know that injuries are public knowledge and the importance of following the newest updated injury reports before submitting your lineup.1 point
