Surprised they didn't force him to sit on the bench for 7-8 days before finally letting him sit out.7 points

Oh my goodness no. The 2006 team would win 9 out of 10 games against this team. They won 90 games. They had 4 players who hit 30+ home runs. There were 7 players on that team that hit more HR than the current team leaders have this year. (Abreu/Sheets at 14.) In the end, Buehrle and Contreras just ran out of gas after a lot of innings over 2 seasons, and the bullpen just wasn't as good as they were in 2005, especially Cotts and Politte. It was disappointing that they ended up missing the playoffs back when there was only 1 wild card, but that team was a million more times fun to watch than this year's team.7 points

I just want Vaughn to take over at first next year. Play everyday. Same spot in the lineup and be the best hitter he can be.5 points

I should preface this by saying that I obviously don't want him to die or anything, but how are we as fans supposed to react to this? I don't feel bad for him, if it's that hard on him, he should resign.5 points

Hopefully soon so we don’t have to worry about him returning anymore. I hope Tony is alright, but this is the most excited I’ve been about the Sox in a while. Tony was awful in every way imaginable and this clubs future is much brighter without him around.4 points

Ehh, the latest version of the Sox Machine podcast laid out several reasons why AJP would not be an ideal hire that made a lot of sense. I truly hope they look outside the org and do a real search this time.4 points

We are so conditioned into the former player madness. If he wanted to manage he would have started somewhere in an organization. We don't need anymore Venturas.4 points

Hope Tony is alright, but also hope his days of any affiliation with this organization are over. Its for the best for all parties.4 points

So he’s in rehab now? Kidding, but if you don’t want those comments made, don’t get DUIs4 points

Yeah, sadly, today being the cutoff for postseason eligibility isn't relevant to the conversation of the Sox signing him.4 points

The Sox made this mistake last year and paid for it when Gavin has been bad for most of this year. I wouldn't let one Sheets hot streak dictate whether they get rid of Vaughn or Abreu. I also wouldn't let him get in the way of signing a left handed power hitting OFer.4 points

Sheets should be relied on as nothing more than a depth piece. He’s interesting but if Sox plug him in as the primary DH or a primary corner OF, they’re going to be bad again. The path forward should be simple: -Let Jose walk -Sign Nimmo -Call up Colas in May to take the other corner, shifting Pollock to 4th OF -Shift AV to 1B mostly fulltime -shift Eloy to DH mostly fulltime -Sheets can fill in for rest and injuries Team defense, lineup balance and athleticism take giant leaps forward. And we didn’t even spend much money. I can’t imagine Nimmo will be much more than 3-4 year deal around $15-17M AAV.4 points

This may sound cold-hearted, but I really don't care whether he's OK or not. He agreed to take on this job at age 76 after having a second DUI. He clearly wasn't physically cut out to do this for more than a year. He's done this to himself, and made us all miserable in the process.4 points

Sox are treating him like he’s Coach K, when the reality is he’s been a total flop this tenure.3 points

It amazes me that no one from management is out there answering these questions, so the players get to. What a joke.3 points

If this is the end of Tony's managerial career, I wish him good health and more years of retirement in Arizona nowhere near the White Sox. If this is the end, an extensive and legit search better take place. AJ would be a train wreck. No experience and likely a bad fit for the Latin players. My choice was/is Sandy Alomar Jr. Great background and learned under Tito.3 points

This current line up isn't winning anything, I don't care who the manager is.3 points

Full disclosure the connection is my cousin's neighbor is close friends with the coach, often sits in his seats. But any gossip that makes it my way I take with a big grain of salt and don't typically share here cause I'm not trying to be one of the foodies. However he has been accurate in the past. Either way, hope Tony is ok and never manages the Sox again.3 points

Exit plan. Not hard for a doctor to conclude that a 78 year old man shouldn't be working in high pressure situations.3 points

Managing an MLB team shouldn't really be that hard. I just want someone younger and with fire. I'd prefer they do a legit search as well, but if AJP wanted the job, I think he'd be a fantastic fit. He's not a Sox lifer by any stretch and the dude is fiery as AF. I'd bet my bottom dollar these dudes would play hard for him; the nonchalant no hustle days would be gone immediately. What I don't want is some over the hill old goat. We need a younger voice that is in tune with the current game.3 points

2022 RISP Jose: .244/.344/.472 Vaughn: .341/.392/.455 2022 RISP w/ 2 outs Jose: .237/.357/.475 Vaughn: .342/.413/.439 2022 "Late and Close" Jose: .292/.378/.319 Vaughn: .294/.342/.544 Yet this board is desperately trying to jettison the younger guy that is only getting better. You have your 1B of the future, slot him cleanup every day and let the man hit. Hell, he'd likely lead the league in GIDP and carry on Jose's legacy.3 points

Andrew Vaughn has 1 less hit than Jose this year with RISP in 49 fewer attempts. Jose is a huge part of the problem.3 points

He’s been mediocre to downright bad except this month of August really…which is being fueled by a .400+ BABIP. Not going to get carried away by a hot streak, we all should have learned that lesson by now. Not sure if the glove justifies it, but I think if Gavin can stick as a lefty pinch hitter off the bench it would be a success.3 points

If Jose Abreu regressing is a .300 average, 20 HRs and 80-90 rbis that is still the best on the team. You have to keep him for another year. Jose is rarely injured and a good clubhouse guy. Sheets is the one guy who is really improving. It is obvious he knew he had to learn to go the opposite way and he right now is one of our most complete hitters. If he keeps it up the rest of the year I think you have to get him at bats against LHP to see what he can do. Maybe he becomes a good trade chip but right now he is possibly our best hitter and he is not injury prone. He is learning the OF, maybe he can get better in RF. This all goes back to poor drafting and putting the team together with so many of the same type of guys. Eloy, Vaughn, Sheets, Burger, Abreu are all DH/1B types. Get rid of Moncada would be my advice.3 points

Daily reminder that Abreu is the best position player on the team and its not particularly close.3 points

His legacy has already been ruined by Reinsdorf these last few years. I don't doubt this is paving the way to "promote" him into the FO after the season. And to be honest, that worries just as much as having him in the dugout.3 points

You can't responsibly carry a platoon DH who can't field a position in modern baseball with a four man bench. If he is playing RF for the Sox in 2023, than this next offseason will also be a complete disaster. if they move Eloy for SP, and don't resign Abreu, and get two actual corner outfielders who can field and hit, than it could possibly work. That is a lot of moving pieces, and I don't trust the Sox FO to make all of that work.2 points

Jerry, because a new owner will eventually clean the other ones out. Frankly I have no idea how the other 2 would stay employed for more than 24 hours without Jerry.2 points
