Yep, he’s a terrible human being. I will be happy to never hear from him again.4 points

This all but confirms if LaRussa gets healthy enough to come back then he’s going to. The idea that this was some secret ploy to remove him without firing him was always silly. This is JRs guy.3 points

Listening to Whitesox Talk Podcast this morning and Garfein is saying his pacemaker was put in during spring training and something happened on August 30th that concerned doctors that required an adjustment to it. This in itself is a concern. The ownership allowed this guy to manage all season after an operation like that….wtf no wonder he is mr mumbles this season and seems so out of it. The dude should not be allowed back in the dugout simply whatsoever3 points

Flipping around the radio dial on my way to work and the guy doing the sports scores on Rock 95.5 said the mere presence of TLR made them lose yesterday. Not judging, just passing along that report ?3 points

Yes but really its the Naylor grand slam game and the Engel dropped pop up in Baltimore. Tied in the standings if we win those two games.2 points

I will happily boo and chant for him to get fired if he returns. The man is making a mockery of the game with his asinine decision making, and he's an arrogant prick. Being a "Hall of Famer" doesn't exempt you for life from facing repercussions from fans reactions to bad play or decision making. Being sick doesn't exempt an asshole for being seen as an asshole. Just because someone gets sick or dies doesn't automatically make them a saint. You won't find me rooting for him to die - that is classless - but I am not going to suddenly change my feelings because he had to visit his doctor.2 points

In a couple of decades of ridiculous statements, this is one of the most absurd. You ever cheer at a baseball game? Yell at a basketball game? Welcome to the mob.2 points

Yordan Alvarez is only 25 and has only played 47 games in the outfield this year. I think Eloy’s bat can be that level good if not better. Half the games is being generous. Nothing wrong with being a young DH.2 points

Hating on a player because he doesn't conform to the prototypical white-boy baseball player from the 1950's always strikes me as absurd. People are different. People have different cultures. People have different styles, and tastes. Who gives a flying f*** if he wears a chain and tilts his hat? He's paid to hit the ball, not conform to some boring ass preconceived notion of what a baseball player should look like. Personality is a good thing.2 points

Ruling that a fielder has to stand where he has less chance of catching a baseball is idiocy. And all because the LHH's refused to take advantage of all the empty space they were getting left of 2nd base. And MLB let the hitters have their way!1 point

Without that Clevinger deal for Quantrill, Naylor, Hedges, Owen Miller and Gabriel Arias...the division isn't even that close and the White Sox still win the Central by 3-5. Not to mention Franmil Reyes is providing Cubs' fans some excitement, lol.1 point

The Guardians are winning with almost all rookie or second year/Rule 5 bullpen guys...rookies or 2nd year players at every position on the field but Gimenez/Rosario/Jose Ramirez...and currently down two starting pitchers. No excuses.1 point

That's where I'm at. I don't expect miracles but I would like to see Cleveland start losing a few games but they have a lot of home games left. Still have to play like TLR's presence doesn't mean anything. Figures they would lose that game where he was in Oakland. If the Sox want to win they need to beat everyone, win every series and if that's not good enough so be it. They will get what they deserve.1 point

Might've helped if this team's situational hitting wasn't abysmal for most of the year.1 point

Pretty obvious that they have to sweep the 4 games left with Cleveland....maybe 3 out of 4 gives them a shot but it'd be a slim one.1 point

i dont wanna be a debbie downer but i hope you guys are leaning to the pleasantly surprised, if they make the playoffs now that they're 4gb in the loss column. i'd say the odds of them making the playoffs at this point is probably close to 15% edit: 23.2% (i was close!)1 point

Celebrating a great doubleheader sweep from 36 years ago in this off day, a Sunday in 1976. Game One featured a 2-1 White Sox win over the California Angels in 10 Innings. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA197609121.shtml This game marked Minnie Minoso's 2,113rd and final hit as a major leaguer, a single to left that advanced Chet Lemon to second base. Chet Lemon knocked in Buddy Bell previously for the Sox' only run in regulation. California's starter Sid Monge went into the tenth, where he led off the inning walking Jim Spencer. After Ralph Garr was inserted as a pinch runner, White Sox catcher Brian Downing ended the game with a double to the CF gap to score Ralph Garr. White Sox starter Goose Goosage pitched the full ten innings, resulting in a complete game win, his final win as a member of the White Sox. Despite going 10 innings, this game was completed in 2 hours and 40 minutes. The White Sox went on to sweep the Doubleheader 5-1 in the nightcap, which also knotted the series at 2 games each (California won the first two). https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA197609122.shtml Francisco Barrios also went the distance, and also surrendered just one run to the Angels, on a bunt single by leadoff hitter Dave Collins, plating Mario Guerrero who led off the top of the 3rd with a double. The White Sox tied it on an RBI triple by Chet Lemon in the bottom of the 4th to score Bill Stein, who led off the inning with a single. The White Sox would add two more runs the following inning, on back to back RBI triples by Jim Spencer and Jorge Orta. Pretty rare, wonder if that happened again for the Sox (or any team). The White Sox wrapped up their scoring with two RBI singles in the bottom of the seventh, off the bats of Alan Bannister and Jorge Orta. The game finished in 2 hours, 11 minutes. The doubleheader was played in front of a reported attendance of 11,919. With the sweep, the White Sox closed the gap between them and California to just 3 1/2 games. However, these two teams went in opposite directions after this date, with California finishing the season 11-7 to finish in a fifth place tie with the Texas Rangers (76-86). Meanwhile, the White Sox closed out the season 3-15 to finish in last in the AL West with a 64-97 record. Glad Sox fans, Minnie Minoso and Rick Gossage had one final Hurrah! before closing out the season.1 point

Francona to me is the greatest manager of all time, how the f does he do it year in and year out. A lock for manager of the year considering they tried to sell and are still in a prime spot to win the central1 point

That 76 Sox team IIRC at one point won 10 games in a row early in the year, we could sure use a 10 game winning streak right now.1 point

I think we are above this kind of stuff as fans. Not meaning you, but what kind of person yells "We dont want you back" to a Hall of Famer or any human being? I guess if you are basing it on the DUI, the chant is acceptable. DUIs are serious and many fans have lost loved ones to DUIs. But public displays of emotion seem 'mob' like to me. I don't want him back but this is just sports. Seems classless to chant mean stuff like that when a guy's had health woes especially. I dont want him back but I'd never condone yelling stuff like that at a mere game. Who knows? We could all be wrong and mabe the guys would play ball for Tony.1 point

The best news of all of this is Manfred won't have a ghost baserunner in extras. I refuse to watch "Manfred ball". The two pickoff limit is fucked up. It gives too much advantage to the baserunner. The pitch clock will have a tough go. Lance Lynn is not a get the ball and throw it kinda guy. Got nothing on the bigger bases. The shift ban gives an advantage to the offense which helps them to score more runs which takes more time and lengthens the game time. So. Push? The whole pitch clock/pick off thing will be fucked up. This reminds me of NASCAR. They started fucking with rules. Then every year there were changes then things got weirder as they went. I haven't watched now for several years so I don't know if they are still fucking with things or not. Don't care.1 point

The last news I saw was that MLB had gotten consent from the MLB Umpires union to use automated ball/strike technology and that they were still trying to work out the bugs. You will still have a human behind the plate but he won't be charged with calling balls/strikes. He'll be used for things like out/safe calls on a play at the plate.1 point

A pacemaker can take you from listless to normal like magic. Ask someone who had one done. But some of this stuff sounds like it's also a perfect excuse for what needs to be done, and Tony's in on it. Either way, we're in a big, big hole on the loss side and Cleveland has its momentum back.1 point

I'm a little disappointed and surprised Zemo isn't a part of the crew, but I guess we'll see.1 point

If Eloy is exclusively deployed as a DH he will only become more prone to injury. That is inevitable for a DH who no longer has to run much or stay in shape for that role yet is asked to come off the bench cold 5 times a game. Eloy needs to play LF for at least half the games. He's only 26 years old..1 point

While a lot of people are down on this roster, the interactions should be great. Hoping Taskmaster is given a personality. Also hoping they add Abomination and are sitting on his reveal because of She-Hulk spoilers: Would also love to see Justin Hammer somehow connected. If they add those two this roster goes from Good to Amazing.1 point

Pacemaker comments from someone who has one. The key thing is to know which type. On a simplistic level, there's a basic pacemaker which helps people like me with a-fib to stay in regular heart rhythm. There's also the pacemaker/defibrillator which can shock you back into rhythm. Obviously, this version is used for more severe underlying conditions. The procedure itself is very simple and is usually done under light general anesthesia. A circular disk goes under the skin just below the shoulder and wires run from the disk to heart wall. Overnight your heart is monitored and if everything is okay, you go home the next morning. I was told to take it very easy for 4-5 days, then easy for a couple of weeks, then live my life - just nothing to strenuous for a while. Many people commented about Tony's low energy level. That likely will get a better if the underlying condition isn't too bad. We don't know enough to really speculate on the course of his recovery.1 point

77 and just had a pacemaker, yeah no way they can let him come back. For the sake of his own health, the org and his doctors need to say no.1 point

Or, just tell the guy he has 2 options: 1) step away from the game for good for medical reasons; or 2) get publicly fired tomorrow. But rejoining the coaching staff isn’t an option. That’s what a well run organization would do. Alas..1 point

I’m actually going in the other direction. I’m looking to move Timmy this offseason while he still has value. This has nothing to do with Andrus. My issue with Timmy is he’s a free agent in a couple years and is going to want a mega contract, which I don’t think he will be worth it. His defense at shortstop has been very sporadic this season, he gets hurt often, and it seems his power is declining. I’d look to move him for pitching and plug in Mendick/Romy/whoever as a stopgap SS next year until Montgomery is (hopefully) ready in 2024.1 point

To be clear is the argument to jettison Moncada for a 34-year Elvis Andrus next season. Fellas, what are we doing here? Yeah, He had a terrible year at the plate but are we being serious or just voicing frustration at the moment?1 point

The bases are the only part I agree with. The shift rule is a complete debacle.1 point

Don't think it works that way in this case. Jerry is a stockholder. The biggest stockholder. If stock is sold at a profit, tax is owed no matter what is done with the proceeds. That is different than a home if that is your reference. Also with stock, when someone dies, their tax basis becomes what the value was on the date of death not what original person bought it for. So Sox stock has gone way up. Jerry sells, Jerry pays big tax. That tax hit for heirs is much less when he passes. Think this is correct but not a tax attorney.1 point

The F***? So we are illegally retaliating for being a part of a union negotiating team? Please go admit that in court.1 point

https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/jose-berrios-18945/ Compare year by year with Berrios at 7/$131 including signing bonus of $5 million, as well as differences in options and incentives. How would Giolito's reported deal be even close? Very suspicious timing to release this the day after a contentious hearing with ill feelings from the player and his family. Not surprising at all to see things end this way. The White Sox only believe in club options, and that approach is going the way of the dinosaur if you want to attract the best talent today, good luck with that.1 point
-
There's also no way in hell Giolito will undervalue himself and provide a hometown discount, either. It's different negotiating with players who are creating generational wealth for their family the very first time and largely desire security. Giolito is in a different place.1 point
