  1. The only real hope for a lot of Sox fans is to outlive JR and hope for better ownership.

  2. You're giving them too much credit. They're only close because the division is terrible. In any other division they would have been cooked at the all star break. They're like 13.5 behind that Yankees and 400 behind the Astros. There isn't another division in baseball where they'd be higher than 3rd. They aren't even in wild card contention, and there are more wild cards than ever. I would also say, they don't have bad luck in close games. They don't execute well. They're bad at the little things. That leads to giving away games. It leads to not closing things out. It leads to losing. This is about the most disappointing team and season I can remember. Maybe 2007 is the only one close. They have lots of talent, but are bad at baseball. That leads to a team that is completely mediocre.

  3. Also, for the love god, just IL Robert and give Payton a couple weeks of everyday run in CF. He's earned it.

  4. Glad this was Hahn’s only deadline move. Imagine how much more damage he could have done trying to save this sinking ship.

  5. Great article. I should have seen tonight coming, being a fan I didnt want to. I remember early on in the season saying that this is one of the only times I can remember watching a season and not even being able to enjoy the wins. They are such a bad team even when they stumble to a W. Huge amounts of talent coupled with piss poor fundamentals and attitude. Ive never so thoroughly disliked a White Sox team as this year.

  6. Put me squarely in the “I want them to lose every game left” camp.

  7. I feel like the Chicago White Sox are the Titanic. We were promised something emaculate. Ended up with a sinking ship. Right now I feel like we are at that phase where the nose of the ship is pointing straight up, and the impending loss tonight will be what breaks the ship in half. We hit the iceberg when they signed Larussa...

  8. There’s a laundry list of reasons why the Sox are done, and none of them should be ignored or dismissed as they try to compete in 2023. Injuries were just one of them, but there’s no way they should brush off this season, and just blame it on days on the IL.

  9. I know a portion of this video has been posted in other threads, but I thought this was so good it needed its own. I encourage everyone to watch the entire 16 minute video. It is exactly how every invested Sox fan is feeling right now, and a great summary of all the bad decisions that were made that made this rebuild a complete failure. The White Sox, as a WHOLE, should be ashamed of themselves.

  12. The Sox thought they discovered a market inefficiency by overpaying relievers. It's actually hilarious.

  14. It's been a few years since I had no interest in watching a Sox game. Last night pushed me a lot closer to not wanting to watch tonight's game. What's sad is that it's not last night's game that makes this so bad. It has been the entire season Players made of glass constantly on the IL or "unavailable" Young, in their prime players being told to take it easy and not run hard Horrendous in-game managing Leury Garcia...well, being on the team and playing as much as he did Just about every player we needed to be good (not great, just good) underperforming Lackluster effort I'm tired and pissed off. What a disappointing season.

  15. I would argue that it's that Cleveland does a fantastic job of player development. Chase rates are but one result of that development process. They do a fantastic job developing the assets they have and getting the most out of their returns for existing assets when they do "sell." It's how an organization should be run.

  16. Start by firing one of the worst GMs in all of sports. Then the new guy blows up the locker room and gets fundamentally smart baseball players. That's a pretty good start.

  17. Why would anyone believe in this teams core? They faded and got demolished in the playoffs last season and then couldn't even win this lousy division this season. The roster is aging, injured, and under-performing and they have an owner who is more interested in hiring his buddies or ex players than actual competent managers. There is very little to raise hope with this organization.

  18. Well, basically 6 back now. Let's take today and tomorrow for the start of a 10-game win streak.

  25. It's irrelevant whether they win or lose; they already butchered this season! This team earned the distinction as the #1 most underachieving and disappointing team in baseball. The only thing now that I am rooting for is Hahn to be fired along with Tony and his entre coaching staff. I am also rooting for a major overhaul of this seriously flawed roster. Finally, no matter how improbable or unlikely it is, I want Jerry to let his son run the team or sell it.

  27. He's blown 4 saves all year. He's been shaky at times probably because he hasn't had the stuff he's had in past years but I don't think you can put the blame on him for the bullpen not performing. Kelly's been awful, Bummer has been injured for most of the year, Graveman's been mediocre ever since May. Diekman walks everyone. Those are the other 4 guys being paid a lot of money to perform and they're not even close to earning their money.

  28. Stop this is how Rick Hahn and co are gonna justify running it back next year.

  29. I Believe these will be handed out at Gate 5 tonight. Rick Hahn would appreciate if you could check the bottom box and indicate that your donation go to further bullpen additions he deems necessary. A moment of silence will also be observed immediately following "YMCA"

  30. Obviously they should have managed other things differently, but at least once you get to the 11th inning try playing matchups. The first 3 hitters that inning, Miller, Maile, and Straw, were all right handers. Miller's splits are reversed but the other 2 aren't. Put in Ruiz against those 3, yes I know the runner will score from 2nd at some point in there. Then, depending on how Ruiz is doing, you can bring in the lefty to face Kwan and to turn Ramirez around to the side where he's been weaker this year. It's not perfect, no guarantees it won't turn into a 5 run inning, but it's the best they could do.

  33. They can be fixed just not by Rick Hahn. He'll never admit he was wrong and make the neccessary decisions needed to improve the team. He'll just run it back with a couple different utility players and bullpen arms and hope for better results.

  35. Ozzie’s last several teams were renowned for their lack of accountability and terrible fundamentals. Peak of this was probably 2011, but you could take it back years. The biggest change in 2012 was that the team looked like it had been coached for the first time in years. Ozzie was too busy playing favorites with his guys and demanding respect from the organization to be bothered with dumb things like coaching. People are just forgetting how sloppy those teams were because time has passed.

  36. Over 2020-2021 he was about a 0 WAR player with an OPS of .600. The last time he put up anything higher than a .707 was 2017, and his OPS with Oakland was .673 before he was DFA’d by one of the worst teams in the sport who couldn’t even get salary relief for him. Then somehow with the white Sox he has a .879 OPS. You know exactly how it will go. Because of his veteran background he will be the day 1 starter. He will put up a .600 OPS and -0.3 WAR. He will play 2b everyday for 140 games because of that important veteran grindyness. 2b will be an offensive black hole. Again.

  37. There is a lot of "sizzle" in the names you listed off, but really not sure how much "steak" there really is... Not sure Robert will ever see 500 PA's in a season. I don't know what the hell Moncada is, but 2019 Moncada hasn't been seen in quite some time. Eloy is a DH and is paid market value, not a lot of surplus there. You have a core in Cease-Anderson-Kopech-Vaughn, and then a bunch of question marks. The problem is a lot of the question marks are paid a lot of money, along with a collection of talent that are no longer question marks, they are just bad. And they're being paid a lot of money to be bad. This season was an absolute DISASTER for the franchise. Not sure how it could have gone worse, honestly. I really don't know where they go from here.

  38. I'm dumping Sheets and assuming Abreu is still around. I said I wouldn't dread it too much. I didn't say love.

  39. If they aren't making the playoffs, I honestly hope they lose every game from here on out. It needs to get as bad as possible to hope that some type of change happens. Hahn has to be fired. Menechino has to be fired. Tony needs to be cremate....er fired.

  40. They do everything wrong. The only player with any game IQ is Andrus.

  41. Believe me, I hate Tony as much as anyone but the problems are so much greater than him. It’s the dumbest roster construction possibly in the history of baseball.

  42. This isn't going to get fixed until Jerry sells or is in heaven. His cronies and the permanent employees who work here are never getting fired. They get promoted when they fail. I am not entrusting Hahn with another rebuild. I am waiting for all of these guys to be unemployed. And a new owner or someone else besides Jerry running this.

  43. So many of them seemed nervous tonight. Lambert, in particular, seemed like the moment was too big for him. The relief effort tonight reminded me of the 2020 game 3 debacle

  44. Honestly I was not that excited by Abreu's game tying hit....I just figured it wasn't going to be enough. But damn that 11th, especially the last 2 runs scored was embarrassing. Is this team ever embarrassed by how they play because they should be.

  45. They have a manager that gets the most out of them as well.

  46. 11th game this year the Sox led in the 7th inning or later...and lost. Bummer, who has hardly played at all this year, has been directly responsible for blowing three of those games. This season is over...all that remains is to try and have a winning season. That's some small consolation from a "World Series contender" isn't it? ? The good news? No more "ghost runner" extra inning games next season.

  47. I probably wont be back. Jerry kinda hijacked this season when most teams would've replaced their manager.

  48. Hahn trades Pilkington for the woeful Hernandez. Hernandez' replacement for the Guardians, Giminez, becomes an all star in his rookie year. And Pilkington, while not great, contributes to the Guardians. Hahn goes out and signs old free agents. Hahn is just outclassed.
