NOBODY eligible for social security. I repeat, NOBODY who is eligible for social security!!4 points

Just in continuing to build the case that Hahn is bad, I will keep drilling comparisons to the Atlanta Braves. For those new to my series, titled "Rick Hahn is bad", I've chosen the Braves because they to me are the most similar franchise to the White Sox. If that sounds odd, I'm referring to: - They are in same market group designations as the White Sox, so they do not get extra first round picks or international money (in fact, they've been crushed in international since the Coppy fiasco) - Have a strong but fickle fan base with a not great tv market that has put their budget in a lower stratosphere than the big market Dodgers/Giants/Red Sox/Cubs/Yankees/Mets/Phillies that are also teams who lack the additional team building boosts. For example, the estimated final payroll (I really can't find a site I like for this, but this comes from fangraphs roster resource) has the 2022 payroll of the Braves (post WORLD SERIES) at 188 million, less than the final 2022 payroll for the white sox of $196M. Both were also at similar payrolls. My thing with just firing Hahn for a new GM that, while likely being hand tied at how much can be done to revolutionize the MLB roster, could get a head start in trying to improve the organizations scouting and player development to be among the best in the game...which ANY franchise can achieve regardless of market size as the Tampa Rays and Guardians have shown. The Braves you may have noticed also had some underperforming stars this year. Albies and Acuna were injured for much of the year and not great in terms of production. Rosario's playoff magic did not translate at all, and Marcell Ozuna was awful in more ways than one. Matt Olson was good but not up to typical Matt Olson standards. Ian Anderson took a big step back, Odorizzi was a bad pickup, and Will Smith regressed in the bullpen. That is not the depths of struggles of the White Sox, as some guys had career years (Swanson and Riley). But the sox also had some of that of their own. Anyway this is a long way to get to the big difference between the franchises is while Hahn's minor leagues were completely tapped out by the time our team arrived in 2020, the Braves has not stopped. The modern braves arrived in 2018 when Acuna and Albies flew thru the ranks and added to longtime vets (Freeman) and smart trades (Inciarte and Swanson). Their starting pitching that year consisted of Julio Teheran, Folty, Sean Newcomb, Anibal Sanchez, and Brandon McCarthy. They still had one of the top farms in baseball. In 2019, they added from their farm Austin Riley, Mike Soroka and Max Fried join the rotation. In 2020, they added from their farm Ian Anderson, Touki Toussaint, and Kyle Wright. In 2021, they added from their farm William Contreras and Kyle Muller. In 2022, they added from their farm Michael Harris and Vaughn Grissom. Harris hits a 135 OPS+, Grissom a 118 OPS+ playing dynamic CF and 2b. They added Spencer Strider who was one of the best pitchers in baseball in the second half. They were able to replace Freddie Freeman with Matt Olson by trading out top prospect Christian Pache and Shea Langeliers. Look at their SP compared to 2018. Look at their bullpen. Look at their position players. You cannot have sustained excellence merely on the backs of your core being strong every year. You have to add and add and add and add and add and add. The pipeline can't stop. Michael Harris was a 3rd round pick in 2019, 20th overall. The Braves paid him 500k. 17 picks earlier the white sox took Andrew Dalquist and paid him 2 million. Did I mention he's a lefty? Vaughn Grissom is an 11th rounder from 2019. Shea Langeliers was picked 9th overall in 2019 which led to Olson. In 2020, they selected Spencer Strider in the 4th round for 500k. Because of the Jared Kelly bonus, the white sox selected a 10k signing who I don't know has played in baseball yet. They entered the year 22nd in org rankings for their farm. But that still allowed them to acquire Matt Olson, and introduce the possible NL rookie of year with either Strider or Harris. a 4th round pick and a 3rd. We will focus on the signings and ML budget. But it is all so much harder for the sox because they cannot sustainably bring talent in from draft and intl, and develop it.4 points

Vaughn was running a ~130 wRC+ for much of the season. It was 133 in the first half & then 131 in August. He obviously fell completely off a cliff, again, in September. My guess is that's not something that'll happen if he doesn't play ~90 games in the outfield again next year.3 points

honestly to me the idea of getting a manager from a super successful org is like a struggling fashion designer hiring a model from Chanel and saying "wow, this model will totally make us as successful as Chanel" instead of being realistic about "wow this model is a great fit for the look of our clothes".3 points

I'm pretty sure we just had a manager who did exactly that and got pretty much everything he wanted. It did not go well.3 points

Yeah, I do too but not exactly things I can do a nightly basis. I have next to no interest in football. I like college hoops, but doesn't return for another month. Lots of boring weeknights without baseball at my place. I got my first kid on the way though, that'll change things in a hurry lol.3 points

Im just amazed that we didn't even get a whiff of a possible replacement at GM. It was pretty much like no matter what happened they were all coming back. TLR would have been back too had it not been for his heart issue. This organization is just pathetic.3 points

This "core" is way too volatile to win. You need consistent players to win and this team has way too many inconsistent players in performance and health. Everything needs to go right and we've seen time and time again with this group that's simply not going to happen. Then factor in they're likely to lose the only consistent player they have because he doesn't "fit" a poorly constructed roster. They have to move a couple of the "core" guys no matter what it takes because they're not winning s%*# with this group.3 points

Not to be a downer, but it’s just awful that Sarah Langs has ALS. I saw her about a month ago really speaking slowly, and thought she had a stroke I didn’t hear about. Hopefully she will stay happy for as long as possible. Such an unfair thing.2 points

Brandon Nimmo is my number one want this off-season. Kolton Wong too, would love to see a Sosa/Wong platoon at 2B2 points

Because the Sox have put us through so much garbage recently, I have NO issues rooting for Cleveland in the post-season. I should have an issue, but can't really find a reason other than being a meatball, they are really fun to watch.2 points

for those that are perplexed by baseball but very into the fashion industry hopefully my comment helps.2 points

This is a great post, Floyd. Jerry firing Himes chaps my ass to this very day. It is the only thing over which I would personally bean the alte kaker with my Ballpark frank. I will leave it to the universe beaning him with their Ballpark franks for his myriad other transgressions.2 points

As I put my kid to bed the other night, I looked at the Anderson and Moncada fatheads on his wall, the "Southside" flag he has hung up, and all the other Sox memorabilia he has collected and just got so angry. He's a fan because of me, just as I'm a fan because of my dad. We live in just about the heaviest Cubs neighborhood imaginable (even live across the street from a Cubs WS hero from 2016) and yet he and my other sons have remained die-hard Sox fans throughout their childhoods. They suffered through a rebuild that chewed up their formative years while their friends' team celebrated, I suspect largely out of loyalty to their dad. For years they have fended off their Cub fan friends by parroting what they heard from me: just wait 'til 2021/2022/2023, that's our time. Just wait. We went to 20 games in what should have been a season of joy, all the while I could tell they were looking at me wondering "so, when's this gonna happen? I told everybody this was going to happen, dad, so what's going on?" The answer, of course, was that it was not going to happen at all, and I'm not sure it ever will. Honestly, I feel guilty for believing in this franchise and worse for inflicting my kids with this Sox fan disease. Screw this team for making that happen. Screw them especially because they had legitimate success in their grasp and arrogantly pissed it away because of a dysfunctional front office beholden to a capricious, dictatorial owner. I know it's just sports. I have plenty of thoughts on what can be done to (hopefully) turn this around. But for now I'm just stewing in anger. That is all.2 points

Seemed more like shifting the blame, Hahn's primary competency in life. Did the same with the manager he extended before firing him 60 games later. The ridiculous bullpen Game 3 was both Hahn's idea and fault, since he only provided Ricky two starting pitchers. Hahn did the same thing right after Tony left, with Joe Kelly gave up two runs on September 2. "Never let a crises go to waste".2 points

First game of the year against Cleveland. Entire infield forgot how to play defense, 4 errors, should have been more, immediately turned into 8 game losing streak. ”He has two strikes, Tony!”2 points

You give Vaughn 150+ games at 1b batting 3rd and a new clubhouse dynamic, you won’t be disappointed. But by all means, trade him and re-sign a 36 yr old, because he’s so loyal to our losing franchise.2 points

Only 2 homers were hit to straight away center with a launch angle of 30 degrees and an exit velo between 99 and 100. That's actually crazy. Edit: There were no homers hit with those parameters in 2021. 4 in 2020 and 6 in 2019. Edit 2: if you lower the minimum exit velo to 95 there were 5 homers to CF this year with a launch angle of 30 and an exit velo of less than 100. There were 11 in 2019.1 point

Mets look like the Sox did in the playoffs last year. Pitching staff limping to the finish and offense not hitting for power. And the Padres aren't even close to the team the Astros were last year.1 point

You have every right to be pissed and all of us here feel your pain. It's good we all vent and share our anger for this terrible season based on this shitty owner, terrible GM and horrific manager. Most of us are no different than you. My dad is the reason I'm a diehard fan. I have lived through many frustrating seasons as all of us have. This one is without a doubt the worst season ever in my time. However I will keep the faith and hope we turn this around somehow. I know it won't be easy and maybe it won't happen until Jerry sells the team. I thought we were heading in the right direction in 2020. The only thing that will help me hang in there is the hope that one day in the future, I get to live that joy and total euphoria that I experienced watching my favorite team win the 2005 World Series.1 point

Damn right it would make good sense to hire a younger manager from a super successful organization. Plus they won't demand or take up the higher salary that a Bochy, Maddon and Guillen would want.1 point

Expectations suck so much because they tend to draw you in, instill empty confidence, and always leave you believing things will eventually turnaround. No matter how frustrated I became throughout the season, I just couldn't resist watching or tuning in to listen to games...only to be left asking myself why I chose to subject myself to more misery, anger, and frustration. I just couldn't shake off the expectations that not only the org set for themselves, but that I set based on this roster and previous performance.....Charlie Brown and the football situation. Alas, next spring I'll fall right back into the same trap. I'll blame the weather for underperformance. Or maybe it's an umpires fault. Or maybe I'll believe someone is playing hurt. No matter the cause, I'm a White Sox fan and therefore a masochist. Maybe things will go our way next season? I know I'll be watching/listening to find out!1 point

Whoever owns the Sox when the lease is up should move the team out to the suburbs in a nice modern complex with easy access so their fans don't have to put up with all the crap and inconvenience.1 point

That's the thing. A lot of schulers record is because of what himes built. Schuler was terrible1 point
