If you don’t care for his delivery that’s fine but the “has never fielded a ball in his life” s%*# is stupid6 points

Wow great post. You are so good at understanding value, I'm sure your history is not full of easily remembered examples of you being obnoxiously wrong about what contracts are movable.5 points

Even if it's for show, at least talking to other people outside the organization and getting their thoughts on what went wrong in 2022 and suggestions on how to fix it is not a bad thing.4 points

Pollock was coming off a 3.1 win season, how was that bad money unless you are using hindsight?4 points

All this has already been reported elsewhere, but glad the fake Twitter insider consolidated and pretended to be his own.3 points

Are these the same people that told you that Hahn is butthurt because the Cubs are laughing at the Sox about Eloy? Grandal is immoveable. He's due $18.25M He's a DFA, or salary dump for a couple million at best, which at that point, you may as well try to make use of him in a part time role since you're paying him anyway. You can always cut him in June, and Seby and Perez are at least serviceable options. Sox need more players with the profile (not attitude) of Moncada, not less. Getting rid of our 1 true plus defender and a guy that provides lineup balance when he has negative value makes no sense. Sox are stuck with Moncada for 2023. TA should in no way, shape, or form be grouped with those 2. He has legitimate value, despite his shortcomings, and I believe the Sox could do quite well if they traded him. But that feels like a move that in most scenarios, makes the 2023 team worse, not better. Hard for me to wrap my head around Hahn taking that dive considering circumstances; feels to me he is pot committed to making something out of this core the next 2 seasons.3 points

This. Sox need most of these guys to be really good if they're going to be good. IF you want to project the same production we got from those guys in 2023 as we got in 2022, legitimately nothing else they do to this team will matter. So if that is your baseline projection, of course this team is going to suck. This isn't rocket science.3 points

Totally agree. This is the absolute lamest excuse for not liking an announcer. The ability to observe is no where near related to their physical abilities, or in Jason's case, his disabilities. The man is a more talented at what he does than 99.99% of people who played baseball for a living.3 points

honestly, if ta, moncada, robert, eloy and giolito don't have huge bounceback/leap in production years, it probably doesn't matter what they do. if the "core" is truly rotten, then we're back to where we started.3 points

There are no “over the top” decisions to be made this year. But I’d bet those that believe in signing Nimmo see a player more likely to hold his value and provide more wins than the 34 year old reliever. And you can always trade nimmo. For example we are talking about trading Hendriks. But you also don’t have to make the same decisions you make in your “well if this happens then you must do this”.3 points

I actually like what they are doing here. Conducting an actual search instead of settling on someone. Wish they would’ve done this in 2021.2 points

I like it (if true). Just cast a wide net to get different perspectives before choosing. That’s not to say I actually want Joe Maddon. Go younger.2 points

I would Take him as an infield coach coordinator. That he is really good at. Don't want any of these retreads2 points

accountability is just something the media and fans talk about because it's harder to explain how a guy like moncada goes from a 5 WAR true talent to 2 WAR true talent in one season. I'm not saying that the leadership was poor and guys weren't held accountable (whatever that means) but I'm also saying it's a black box that really isn't helpful for team building this offseason. If they had signed a a 3 WAR 2B and a 3 WAR RF they probably make the playoffs, and all this talk of accountability is muted. Get better players, make better decisions in FA.2 points

I have no strong preference for or against him, but I am quite happy that they're actually interviewing him. They should absolutely be interviewing leading future managerial candidates including Espada and Alomar. If they wind up hiring someone else, at least they did their due diligence this time.2 points
-
You said he was unmovable. He was not. You didn't say "sure they can move him but they'll have to take on a starting outfielder!" You've now thrown out that a 2 for $39 deal makes Hendriks too hard to move and also that if the sox want to move anything they most move all of their bad money and colson montgomery. They can move, you may not clear 100% of their cost and get great prospects. Nobody said they have great value, that's your hang up. If the sox prioritize clearing the players salary over talent return, they can do that. If they prioritize talent return, they can swap contract liabilities or eat more money. But anyway, what does it matter, you'll just retrofit your argument to something else and claim that's what you meant.2 points

Had an hour and a half conversation tonight with another person who has been around the organization. I can tell you the comments reinforced the notion that I hearing from others, that this front office is basically dysfunctional and that even includes people in the scouting, development and ancillary departments.2 points

Well he is a 4 WAR player; it is a statistic, not an opinion. It’s like saying you have the opinion that he didn’t hit over .300 this year.2 points

It becomes difficult to listen to a nerd that has never fielded a grounder in his life talk baseball as an authority on the subject over the long haul, I'm ready for a fresh voice. If it's Kaspar however, I'll be on the opposing feed as others mentioned.2 points

Don't waste your time wondering why he wouldn't want Espada. Jerry's extensive track record with his dumb decisions have absolutely shown no wisdom or logic. 1. Let Hawk Harrelson, a play by play broadcaster with no prior GM or front office experience become his GM. 2. Allowed Hawk to fire Tony LaRussa even though he had a winning record. As we all know Jerry has confirmed it was one of the biggest regrets he made not stopping Hawk. Additionally Jerry also allowed Hawk to fire Asst. GM Dave Dombrowski and trade away rookie Bobby Bonilla for Jose DeLeon. 3. Jerry fired Larry Himes who drafted Jack McDowell '87, Robin Ventura '88, Frank Thomas '89, Alex Fernandez '90, Bob Wickman '90, Wickman was traded away to Cleveland by Himes replacement Ron Schueler. Btw, Wickman had a solid career at Cleveland and was a two time all-star and league leading saves leader twice and is currently 2nd on the all-time on saves list for Cleveland. 4. During the 1994 strike year Jerry was one of the major driving forces to convince the owners not to accept the players offer and allow the season to end at around 113 games...thus costing his own team, a legitimate chance at the 1994 World Series with arguably one the best teams in baseball that year. 5. Jerry overrides Rick Hahn and makes Hahn hire his buddy Tony LaRussa well past his prime both mentally and physically. Even though he made this massive mistake, Jerry doubles down to make an even dumber mistake of not firing Tony. 6. With his Bulls team, Jerry allowed Jerry Krauss to force out Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan and breaking up the dynasty and not allowing the Bulls to go after a 7th title. 7. With his Bulls team Jerry also allowed John Paxson to destroy the Bulls and allowed Paxton to keep the team in total mediocrity until his son Michael finally took the team over and removed Paxson to go out and sign Arturas Karnisovas. Paxson's final 4 seasons were 102-199 and probably would still be in charge if not for Michael Reinsdorf being finally allowed to step in and have full authority over the Bulls team, thus making logical changes which his father obviously was clueless on. This is why you can't even begin to wonder why Reinsdorf has made all these historical terrible decisions. He is plain and simply one of the worst owners of all time. -2 points

Prioritizing trading these 3 players when the Sox have 0 internal options to adequately replace any of them feels on brand for the org1 point

Despite all the other baffling moves and insanity, nothing makes less sense to me than this concept - the relationship between the GM and the bosses is irrevocably broken, the GM has no responsibilities and is publicly embarrassed all the time, he has no job but reading mean tweets about his performance because someone else selects all the key moves, but the GM is happy and hasn’t resigned and keeps signing contract extensions. I don’t buy that they’ve made a decision on him for one second. Won’t be surprised at all if they trade Vaughn for a SP and resign Jose. Also won’t be surprised if Jose does move onto another team and Vaughn remains with us. The 2023 off-season is going to be very revealing for sure. If they go into the season with 4 glaring fucking holes again… they are fucking clueless or don’t really give a s%*#.1 point

That is the real question. If the guy is already the choice and the Sox are just trying to look the part of getting different perspectives, then this is all in vain. Hopefully the FO is really looking at all the possibilities.1 point

Someone finally asked the right question. This team was fine in 2020 and the 1st half of 21. What happened in 22? Do people really expect me to believe that someone just quit yelling at them this year and that's the problem?1 point

That's practically the best thing I've ever heard from a sports team? Yeah if I had tickets I would totally go sit in the ballpark and eat and drink during the rain delay on a 50% discount before a playoff game. Shut up and take my money.1 point

But neither Eloy or AV can be relied on to last a full season without spells on the IL whereas Jose has been fairly robust over the seasons, and as for not being able to hit 20 hrs this season, neither did any other White Sox batter, so should we get rid of them as well?1 point

I will again take the opinion that if you subtract the best player from a slightly above average bullpen and replace him with a 28 year old journeyman, most likely you turn that into a below average bullpen and that offsets the good you did by improving the OF.1 point

Little Ricky and Tantrum Tony weren’t about to admit that they did a bad job by trading away guys at the deadline even if it helped them this offseason. If you’re in a culture surrounded by yes men who say you did everything right, you have to continue saying things are going to plan even when they aren’t.1 point

If Jose got no Sox offer I hope he blasts Hahn, LaRussa, Jerry and the whole organization. He's a Sox legend possibly being kicked out the door. Still productive, was the Sox best regular this season. Not bringing him back should be mocked throughout the league. Some contending team will sign him, start him at first and bat him third or fifth and not think twice about it. Infuriates me.1 point

That’s weird that hiring a coach who said “f*** the HR” would gradually cause your team to lose its approach.1 point

For like the millionth time you have never been banned. For like the millionth time every time you have ever been -suspended- it has been painstakingly explained to you. It has never been out of nowhere. but this basically just shows beast why you keep adding that disclaimer. Because you love to play the game that you don't quite understand why everyone is so upset when you just keep doing the same thing1 point
