  1. Let's stop and think about this for a minute with some common sense. If the Sox were looking to move the three you mentioned, plus Giolito to save money, and Vaughn to make the trade have a better return AND they were looking to not have Abreu come back that isn't some simple roster readjustments. That is a full fucking rebuild. And while that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, there is absolutely no one saying that. So while I don't doubt moves are on the horizon, funny none of those all knowing internet personalities are adding 3 + 3 to get what it would actually mean.

  2. Swag w/o results is just hubris. This org has that in spades.

  5. I thought it was obvious I was talking about the organization in general. We don't need someone bringing "swag" we need someone who can gets these clowns to work hard and earn that swagger. I love Willie, but he's not the guy and that's not that attitude we need. If anything we need some humility.

  11. It totally is his issue and problem. First, he is heavier than he was when he played in the Boston farm system. He is also heavier than when he first played for the Sox. He is still very slow and you can't tell me he can't lose 10 or 15 lbs and be quicker and still keep his strength. Losing weight is part of getting in better shape. Secondly, another part of being in great shape is to have great flexibility with your muscles. His lack of flexibility is due to being heavier and thicker and not knowing how to properly stretch or stretch and stay limber and flexible continuously throughout the game...especially for a thicker athlete. If Yoan maybe learned to do Yoga like Dylan Cease or learned how to properly stretch from perhaps a world class gymnast or sprinter, he would be able to avoid all the non-stop hamstring and groin injuries he repeatedly has. You never saw Jose Abreu pull hamstrings and groins like Moncada did. Jose is a big man too...actually bigger and thicker than Yoan. The difference is Jose did a more thorough job of stretching before and during the game. I've been to tons of Sox games and you can see how Jose is constantly stretching and staying loose in the on deck circle and right before he goes to the batter's box. Yoan never did this type of higher level and more thorough form of stretching and staying loose and limber before and during the games. The fact is, anytime an athlete pulls muscles repeatedly like Yoan does, it's absolutely related to the athlete not being in the best possible shape and/or not understanding the proper forms of stretching, strength training and fitness. Finally, I am not saying that his lack of hitting is part of his lack of being in better shape. I am saying his lack of being in better shape is what prevents him from playing 2B. Although if he did lose weight, he would be able to perhaps beat out more groundouts or run the bases from first to home better. As I've posted many times in here, these players like Yoan make ridiculous millions of dollars and can afford to hire the best trainers and dieticians. We should not be making any excuses for these athletes not being in the best top shape possible before and during the season. Again this is baseball and not football! The amount of muscle injures Yoan gets every year is simple pathetic.

  12. I think Madden just made awful decisions for the Cub's in 2016, but despite Madden they won mainly because Jason Heyward delivered a motiving speech during a well timed rain delay. Ron Washington I'm not so sure about, he had his chances with Texas in 2010 and 2011 and didn't deliver a World Series so why trust him with the Sox. Besides he look's almost as old as TLR.

  15. This. Much like the sentiment across this thread, I told my group I will not be renewing my portion which was 12 games. We had 4 seats, 5 rows behind the dugout plus parking/stadium club. I generally use half for work, half for personal. This year I couldn't find work or personal to take (free to all parties invited ... expensed for work, free for friends). I ended up giving away tickets to 2 games, selling the other 10 games and getting about $50 per ticket on a $80-90 face value. My perspective is such: a) why lock into any specific game? you're stuck with weather, with work obligations, family obligations, etc. etc. Locking into games lacks flexibility b) there is absolutely no cost savings. See above. StubHub has them cheaper for 80% of the games. c) I was part of a group that have had tickets since new Comiskey opened. Even with 12 games I was only able to negotiate getting an ALDS game, so playoffs don't add anything to my incentive. On top of that, last year when they went on sale i was able to grab tickets for all the ALDS games at face value. Now they weren't my seats and right next to the field, but all were generally good and in between the dugouts. No reason to get season tickets when you can still buy your way into the playoffs d) i had no fun. even beside the losing. stadium club was an absolute joke for the 3rd year in a row. stale bread that falls apart, no service, poor food quality, over crowded. Hell i went there on an April game. 45 degrees out. maybe 8k fans at the park, slight mist/rain. I took my parents. To sit in stadium club on the glass cost $5 per person ...What is that? Insanity. You pay for a ticket to the game, for stadium club access and then $5 to see the game? Buy a $15 beef that falls apart ... To me there's absolutely no value left to season ticket proposition. And you know what? I'd love to sit down with a Brooks or anybody high up in the organization and have them experience the process. From getting into games to food, to stadium club, etc. etc. And I'll give the Sox some credit ... they did a lot of things right this year. The bathroom and beer lines in my section were always moving. They staffed concessions well. The people were generally courteous, etc. But they also did a lot of things wrong -- to me Stadium club, parking, season ticket appreciation events all lacked massively. I'll take my $5k and park it anywhere else. Probably end up buying a few scout seats game on stubhub, but that's it. If they go to the playoffs, I'll use the other $3k and buy those games. No reason to waste my time going to pointless games.

  16. I get trying to make each season profitable but, let's be honest, with few exceptions we see the biggest gains in franchise value through simple asset appreciation. Reinsdorf and company bought this team for $20M....it's now worth (conservatively) $2billion. And they want to stick it to the fans after a b.s. season? They want to whine about payroll? Here's a helpful hint to ol' Jerr...you're about to die soon. If you want this team to climb in value on your way out the door, get to spending and improve your product. Build the fanbase, increase the TV deals, sell more STs. Dicking over fans while your initial investment has grown nearly 10,000% over the past 40 years is just disgusting, especially given the lack of competitive seasons this franchise has mustered over the decades under Reinsdorf.

  17. Don't waste your time wondering why he wouldn't want Espada. Jerry's extensive track record with his dumb decisions have absolutely shown no wisdom or logic. 1. Let Hawk Harrelson, a play by play broadcaster with no prior GM or front office experience become his GM. 2. Allowed Hawk to fire Tony LaRussa even though he had a winning record. As we all know Jerry has confirmed it was one of the biggest regrets he made not stopping Hawk. Additionally Jerry also allowed Hawk to fire Asst. GM Dave Dombrowski and trade away rookie Bobby Bonilla for Jose DeLeon. 3. Jerry fired Larry Himes who drafted Jack McDowell '87, Robin Ventura '88, Frank Thomas '89, Alex Fernandez '90, Bob Wickman '90, Wickman was traded away to Cleveland by Himes replacement Ron Schueler. Btw, Wickman had a solid career at Cleveland and was a two time all-star and league leading saves leader twice and is currently 2nd on the all-time on saves list for Cleveland. 4. During the 1994 strike year Jerry was one of the major driving forces to convince the owners not to accept the players offer and allow the season to end at around 113 games...thus costing his own team, a legitimate chance at the 1994 World Series with arguably one the best teams in baseball that year. 5. Jerry overrides Rick Hahn and makes Hahn hire his buddy Tony LaRussa well past his prime both mentally and physically. Even though he made this massive mistake, Jerry doubles down to make an even dumber mistake of not firing Tony. 6. With his Bulls team, Jerry allowed Jerry Krauss to force out Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan and breaking up the dynasty and not allowing the Bulls to go after a 7th title. 7. With his Bulls team Jerry also allowed John Paxson to destroy the Bulls and allowed Paxton to keep the team in total mediocrity until his son Michael finally took the team over and removed Paxson to go out and sign Arturas Karnisovas. Paxson's final 4 seasons were 102-199 and probably would still be in charge if not for Michael Reinsdorf being finally allowed to step in and have full authority over the Bulls team, thus making logical changes which his father obviously was clueless on. This is why you can't even begin to wonder why Reinsdorf has made all these historical terrible decisions. He is plain and simply one of the worst owners of all time. -

  21. I would be very happy with a younger manager (47 yrs old) that's into more modern baseball thinking and analytics like Espada and who has been part of a highly successful winning organization.

  22. I don't expect the Sox to say it, but you have to be a complete dolt to report something like that AND not get what it actually means. If they aren't seeing it, I refuse to give actual credence to them having any real common sense. If they don't have that, how should I give them any real value?

  23. Who else besides TA has had behind the scenes issues? I guess you could question Yoan’s commitment with the music career/whatever he does? But do teammates really care about TA’s sex life/marriage? I would guess not, but obviously none of us know what truly happened with the chemistry and locker room of this team. If I was to bet I’d put my $ on having an out of touch dinosaur as a manager as the issue. I keep pointing to a team like the Phillies getting much better once getting rid of a manager that wasn’t helping the team. But I could be wrong and maybe it is the players…

  24. Again, if that is the reason, you can always wait until September and then commit to a 2024 package and get them. It's probably the biggest reason they were around 2 million this year, and why their attendance was higher in 2006 than 2005.

  25. Smart teams out there will see a lot of underachievers as well as the potential that a guy like Yoan Moncada has. If they believe in their player development enough there is a superstar in there if you can figure out how to get it out of him. Obvious Tony and Frank weren't those guys.
    1 point
  26. Exactly. Why would any team want Moncada? Yes he can field. Only way you keep him is if the Sox try to build a winner with pitching and defense. If you can build a team around Cease, Gio, Kopech, Cueto types and Hendriks and trade all our sluggers who can't field for guys who can field and throw ,then you keep Yoan. Not much reason to hold onto him in any other scenario IMO. Sox need to find a way to revolutionize the 2020s game. Get starters who can heaven forbid give you seven innings, yes seven full innings of excellence and then cover two innings of relief instead of 4 or 5. Build that pitching staff and defense, Hahn.

  27. oh my god I would be so absolutely fine if we operated like the guardians but keep in mind, we do not get extra first round picks and additional intl budget, so that's why you do need to look to the few teams who are not top lux spenders but not getting buoyed by the league. I'll continue to point out the Braves as one to emulate.

  29. They should call the plays that work with this and get 400 yards of offense against a defense with a strong front 7. Get a grip guys. It's a rebuilding year. They've been borrowing from the future for years, the check has come. It's a shame they didn't get more out of that, but we'll be better off.

  30. Teams are bringing pressure on Fields because they know he can't read defenses and he's indecisive. Getting better offensive lineman isn't going to fix that. Teams are going to continue to bring pressure until Fields learns to get the ball out quicker and deliver an accurate pass to the hot receiver. I'm not sure that will ever happen because his first move is to take his eyes off the field.

  35. By hiring Willie Harris, JR would get to keep Daryl Boston and most of his gang. This would be a typical Sox move and IMO set them back years. I would just prefer someone with no connection what so ever with the Sox. That may limit their choices, but it's what this team needs. Then again I could be totally wrong on Willie, mainly because this team had swag before a certain manager was forced on the team and if they could recapture that this team could be dangerous. If Willie brings swag, it could set this team on fire. Not sure they would be able to play good defense, but they'd be fun to watch.

  36. Same came be said for another Chicago coach to whom I'm thankful for bringing a NFL championship in 1985. Much like Ozzie minus the kids, Ditka certainly wore out his welcome as much as Ozzie. It is a shame.

  40. Totally agree. This is the absolute lamest excuse for not liking an announcer. The ability to observe is no where near related to their physical abilities, or in Jason's case, his disabilities. The man is a more talented at what he does than 99.99% of people who played baseball for a living.

  41. Jason is one of the best around and I don’t give a s%*# that he never played. The gimmicks on the Sox broadcasts have grown stale and I wish they would change it up, but I don’t put that on Jason. He’s fantastic on national games too and if the Sox gave us consistent quality play I have no doubt the quality of the broadcast would jump equally.

  43. On the Bulls game last night, Jason teamed with Stacey King. He's better at basketball than he is at baseball and while we're at it, he's better than Adam Amin. Ah, Stacey makes everyone better. The humor between him and Jason was genuine and funny, as was the laughter. Adam Amin is good at quoting statistics. Otherwise, the best I can say is that he's no worse than mediocre.
