  1. Any kind of so-called cancel culture has nothing to do with Ozzie. If he had said those things about Castro when he was manager of the White Sox, the controversy would have faded in time. But he said them in Miami, and the political situation there is drastically different. There was the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Professional politicians watch what they say in Southern Florida. Ozzie got in over his head because of his big mouth. There was the bad way he left the Sox, and the Marlins couldn't get rid of him fast enough. Don't forget his dumb sons. Ozzie forgot it is the team that matters, not his ego. He was not a victim. He did this to himself. Plus he was a lousy manager the last year he was with the Sox. Enough of Ozzie already.

  2. Maddon is an egomaniac and it was clear towards the end of his Cubs tenure that he wasn’t that good of a manager. He almost cost them a World Series with his need to insert himself into the games. I want us to cast a large net, but I’m ok with him sitting on the sidelines here.

  3. If this was as true is you'd like it to be Ozzie wouldn't be doing pre and post game. Reinsdorf owns 50% of that station and in no way rubber stamp an hour of ozzie giving his thoughts everyday on the team if he burned a bridge that large. I think at the very least they will (or have) talked to him. Maybe not as a serious hire, maybe just as an advisor, but I'd think it's more likely than not they've spoke to him.

  4. How does Ozzie make any sense? He’s a selfish asshole who is going to manage the way he thinks makes the most sense and will not partner with the front office on strategic decision-making. Bringing back this clown would be the ultimate way to explode this dumpster fire of a team.

  5. If he wants to manage in Chicago again, I hear there's a manager spot open at the McDonald's on Cicero Ave. Stay away from my baseball team!

  6. Depends on how much of his contract will be deferred.

  7. They haven’t reached out to Maddon and Hahn already declared Ozzie won’t happen. Let’s be honest, Guillen quit on his own time because he wanted an extension and basically forced us to trade him to the Marlins before the season was over. Add in all the disgusting baggage with his s%*#-bag sons and it’s very clear he won’t be coming back ever.

  8. If I were Hahn, I’d be looking for two primary traits from a manager candidate. First, they must be capable of leading a major league clubhouse, which means finding ways to get the most out of the guys on a daily basis and being able to hold players accountable for poor performance or effort. Second, they must have a willingness to leverage analytics into their decision-making. Can’t have some old school guy who wants the low OBP fast guy at the top of the lineup or who is willing to sacrifice outs to manufacture one run at a time. A third very nice to have would be bilingual, but can’t consider it being critical as that need can be addressed through the rest of the coaching staff.

  9. My dad and I just had this conversation earlier today. It’s insanity that the Sox are raising prices. Everyone needs to stop paying and send ownership a message. And then remember it doesn’t matter and pray for new ownership in a decade or so.

  10. It’d be kinda poetic if 2/3 of our managers were fired Cubs managers.

  11. Not enough context in here. Vince Velasquez put up a 4.78 ERA, while that was his best in 4 years it is literally the difference between 4.78 and 4.85 in a year when offense is down. He was worth 0.4 WAR in 2022 and 0.4 WAR in the shortened 2020 season by B-R. Basically they took a guy who was an unreliable starter who has an ERA just below 5, put him in the bullpen, and got an ERA just below 5. Bragging rights! You say “when pitchers go down” as though their training and response have nothing to do with that. Like the day where they sent Kopech out to pitch after he was already hurt during warmups. The pitching coach somehow didn’t notice that his pitcher couldn’t go? Come on. Aaron Bummer specifically, in addition to Giolito, is a guy who has gone significantly backwards since Katz arrived. 1.50 WHIP this year. If he was actually hurt, why was he pitching? With Keuchel…so other people weren’t better, but that isn’t exactly a selling point for this guy? The overall setup is still the same. Getting an ERA of 4.76 out of Velasquez is not a selling point. For the amount of resources put into this pen and this rotation, their performance isn’t in any way exceptional. It could well be acceptable, but “this guy is tolerable” isn’t an argument for why he must be kept at all costs.

  13. Shocking to see they aren't interested in an Ozzie reunion or Thome. I wonder why that would possibly be?

  14. All of this. The whole org is so tone deaf its mind-boggling. Just this morning on Facebook they post "Fall in Chicago" and a picture of the park, as if they didn't understand what all the comments would be about. Morons.

  15. I'm not going to actively hate on Katz to nearly the extent of the manager himself, but a handful of names that worked well doesn't necessarily prove what you want it to. In 2021, the White Sox's pitching staff was excellent, in no small part thanks to Rodon. In 2022, the White Sox's pitching staff as a whole was meh - they were 10th in fWAR and that sums them up pretty well. One guy who was really good, a couple of reliable relievers, a couple of starters who overperformed, and a couple of starters who underperformed. But when we look at it a certain way - the White Sox had the 3rd highest bullpen payroll in the league, and were 8th in bullpen fWAR. That's a little disconcerting. They were 11th in salary going to their starters (Lynn, Giolito, Keuchel) but were 15th in terms of fWAR from their starters. That's not particularly good. And if we really want to go for this...this team would have had a below average starting staff if they weren't bailed out by Cueto being available when Lynn got hurt - a normal offseason with no lockout and they would have been genuinely screwed. If I were to take this as harshly as I could, they were a solidly paid pitching staff and an extremely highly paid bullpen that came out mediocre on average, they clearly disappointed and were a part of the underperformance in 2022. 2021 was a strong sales pitch for this pitching coach, 2022 was a clear disappointment particularly in the context of how expensive the staff was. If an incoming manager wants to replace the pitching coach, I'm not going to raise an alarm about it based on 2022. If the manager wants to keep this pitching coach, I will also gladly judge the manager and pitching coach based on how they perform, in a context like this one.

  20. Shocking! Another GM out there knowing they need a great manager and deciding to out hustle the competition or in this case Rick Hahn. Hmmm. maybe that GM understands the notion "You snooze you lose!!!"

  21. I think strategically the actual amount of wins between a bad manager and a good one is very small. You do have to have good players to win. But, in being prepared, in being accountable. Letting things slide, that total can grow by a big chunk. The Sox were a better team when LaRussa was gone, even with the fade at the end. I'm sure they would have been better if Cairo was there all year. I think they would have been more than 2 games better if Renteria was there and had his don't run it out you sit down rule on. There are plenty of candidates I hope they don't go with, but as long as it's not Tony, it will be an upgrade. Hendriks even admitted they needed someone to kick them in the ass more often. Tony was the substitute teacher or babysitter too many took advantage of. Whether it was his HOD status making him skip steps or think that was enough to control the clubhouse, or it was age and health, it doesn't matter, he wasn't up for the job. Unless they find the next Bevington, the next guy will be an upgrade. I do doubt they will hire a guy who will be consensusly thought of as the best hire.

  24. The baseball world isn't that big, I would guess that they know 95% of what a potential manager is about and can bring to the organization without an interview. If they aren't interviewing Maddon, Guillen etc it is because they already know 100% of what that manager is and aren't interested. It works the other way around also, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the top bench coach choices would interview for the experience and then drop out of consideration based on Sox disfunction reputation. Particularly if they think other organizations are interested, including their own in a year or two.

  25. Dragic still has quickness, hits the three. That's good. Slovenian, in the north of former Yugoslavia, good balance to the two Montenegrins on the roster. That was in the extreme south of the country. Drummond gets you the ball, that's good too. Javonte Green, 6'4" and still clearly better than the #4 draft choice, Williams, useless inside or outside. Three point shooting looks better, essential to keeping defenses off out mid range guys. Sox not in season, Bears boring and I don't do hockey, so keep me entertained, guys.

  26. I don't care if I'm in the minority, I'd love a Willie Harris hire. A guy who grinded his way through a big league career, played with a ton of energy, and I think would defer to analytics without pushback in a lot of ways because he's a first year guy. I don't care if it's irrational or not well received, I'd love me some Willie. Thome would be awful. Ozzie quit on the organization when things got bad, can't be trusted.

  28. I would be ok with Madden over a few of the names floating around, but he’s far from my top choice. I feel like some of the shine has worn off. I also question why he would want to be a part of this dysfunctional org, but then again he worked for LAA for so he might fit right in.

  31. I agree being bilingual in today's game is important. That is why Astros Joe Espada is a perfect fit. He is only 47 years old, bilingual and a part of an extremely consistent winning playoff organization that preaches fundamentals. Whether Washington is beloved by media and fans is irrelevant. I agree though being well liked by the players is important. However we need a manager who is young, into modern day baseball analysis, has a strong baseball background, will preach fundamentals and be tough on the players and make them accountable. It is a great attribute if the players like the manager. However more importantly the manager needs to be respected by the players so they want to work as hard as possible to give him their best effort. Btw, Renteria was beloved by the players and that didn't work out so well, due to the fact Renteria was weak in so many other areas of managing.

  33. I went to 15 games in 2021. I went 2 games in 2022. I’m not a band wagon fan. I had season tickets up until they demolished old Comiskey. I will make my decision on what my plans are for 2023 when the management team is put in place, and the roster is decided. I could go back to 15 games as I did in 2021, get season tickets if they wow me, or none if they screw things up. I need to see a proven manager, a legitimate right fielder, and a 2nd baseman. I’d settle for Andrus at second for a year if they wisely spend for a real right fielder/left fielder. should Eloy be allowed to play left? should he be a full time DH? I’m writing this post considering Abreu is gone and Vaughn is the full time 1st basemen. I know this is a ticket disc but this is what decides who buys and who doesn’t. The bullpen and starters is another discussion as is catching. We probably can’t give Yasmani away because of his contract. Could he return to the hitter he was 2 or 3 years ago just being a DH? After all, he’s a switch hitter, has power, draws a lot of walks. A lot of questions still remain before I buy another ticket. What do we do with Sheets? Play him or trade him? Buy out Pollock? Trade Hendriks? Lots of questions. Risk a big contract on Conforto? Please respond and give opinions, after all is this what it’s for.
