  1. I'm bored...somebody type a new name and let's all point and scream at it

  2. I still am a little annoyed treating Willie Harris in the same vein as "well they are already here" guys like Getz/Thome/Ozzie to an extent. He has a pretty classic trajectory right now. He's done it in multiple orgs, Starting in sox but then going to Giants, Reds and then Cubs as the 3rd base coach. Some of those aren't winning orgs but ...it's the bench coaches. By all accounts he still brings a lot of energy and is well-liked. You could do a lot worse. I'll say again, you can't retrofit a smarter organization on top of the sox just by hiring someone from the astros. Of the duties a manager is responsible for, Harris seems like a competent choice.

  3. I like the narrative better that Espada saw how disorganized this organization is and behind the times, that he decided to pull his name out.

  4. Hopefully DH 125 games, LF 25 games. Anything less than 80% of the DH would be a terrible, terrible mistake. He's a DH. Time for him to accept it AND, perhaps more importantly, for the org to stop caring about Eloy's thoughts on the matter.

  5. Nah man, this is a high speed train wreck.

  6. Or it feels like he's honoring the anniversary of the world series win

  7. Its really just fan driven narrative. Who really cares? If the Sox hire one of those guys, by all means light your pitchforks. Until then, what's the point? The Sox are clearly interviewing a lot of folks. There really isn't anything to be upset about at this point.

  8. No, it really is the worst idea.

  9. But I was told that repeatedly here that the Sox had a league average amount of injuries this year???????????????

  10. For now I get excited when I see AJ on tv. Please don’t take that away by dumping him in with Ventura.

  11. I really cannot fathom the logic behind bringing Ozzie back, other than the fact that he won a series almost 2 decades ago. FFS, we literally just saw a retread crash and burn because the dude was out of touch after not managing for a decade and their solution is to bring in ANOTHER retread that hasn't managed in a decade? We're going with that over a guy who's been at the forefront of arguably the most consistent franchise of the last 4 years or a guy who's been part of 2 World Series titles and 4 pennant winners (Yanks in '09, Mets in '15, Nats in '19, Phils in '22)? Seriously, I'd argue it makes even less sense than TLR did. At least TLR was a consistently strong manager in St Louis and went out on top the last time he managed. Ozzie was out of touch back in 2010, much less now.

  12. Wow this org is a hot Fucking cluster f***

  13. It was Goldy Simmons first year on the job after earning positive reviews working in the minors. He didn't have an off-season with these players due to the lockout. There was no chance that Simmons was getting fired after one season.

  14. Sorry Eloy but you are a DH.

  15. While I certainly don't want the Sox to hire Ozzie, nor do I think he's even a legit candidiate, it'd at least be extremely entertaining. Like slowing down to look at a car wreck type entertaining. Would be quite a fitting way to end what could potentially be JR's last managerial hire.

  16. I wish I had that kind of information, something only someone in the meetings would know.

  17. Your pessimistic/cheap outlook is way more optimistic than mine. I don't even like Conforto much, mainly since he's coming off shoulder surgery, but I'm fully expecting a nightmare offseason of salary cuts (due to lack of playoff revenue), utility/relief signings, salary dump trades (such as getting out of Joe Kelly's contract by attaching Jose Rodriguez to him), selling low on Moncada/Giolito only for them to predictably return to form, etc.

  21. You know what I hate? Seeing all of Eloy’s offensive potential go to waste sitting on the IL. Sorry Eloy, but DH is your future if you want a long and healthy playing career.

  22. You know what I hate? Terrible defense in LF, arguably one of the easiest positions to play.

  23. This guy should be available....he's a WINNER ?

  24. What Eloy needs to realize is, even though he hates DH'ing, it's idiotic to put him anywhere else. Literally the only value he provides is with his bat, and it's huge value. Putting him in LF makes the team worse defensively, gives him greater risk for injury which diminishes not only the value he brings to the team, but his future earnings as well. Someone needs to slap him and make him realize that he needs to learn to like DH'ing, otherwise he isn't going to have much of a career in this league. And Lord knows this team needs to get more speed and a better glove in both corner outfield spots.

  25. Because he will now be known as the artist formerly known as Ozzie Guillen. He will sign everything ‘13’ going forward.

  27. So sick of the Ozzie, Thome, Getz, Willie Harris talk. I hate that this organization is so incestuous. It's way past time to bring someone in that has no previous ties to this org and get some fresh ideas. What they've been doing obviously hasn't been working so hiring someone that is just going to do what he's told and show us more of the same shouldn't be acceptable.

  28. If we have 15-30 to work with...they can add Conforto on a 1 yr prove it deal for LF (Nimmo will be too expensive) like 1/10 and you can definitely add a 5th starter for 8-10. Problem is there is still a huge hole at 2B and no way to really address it unless you are gonna move Eloy for Chisholm and then have Grandal DH since he can't catch anymore.

  29. I'm pretty certain Ozzie will not be the next manager of the White Sox. Kevin Long seems to be the choice and I'm thrilled about that.

  30. There were too many real candidates for it to be TLR last time, but that is still who we got, and it is the same clowns doing the hiring again so I wouldn't write off anyone no matter how unlikely.

  31. Here is a quote from Kevin Long that supports a more modern approach to hitting: Here is a quote from Frank Menechino:

  32. Unless they announce someone tomorrow it has to be Kevin Long by process of elimination, right?

  33. $125M in cap space for Bears next year - not that it means they should spend massively in FA - but they clearly can afford some spending. Hopefully they can also grade it to where they do some short / interim free agent moves to make team better - while at same time maintaining flexibility to start to allocated more cap space to resigning our draft picks and hopefully emerging young talent (hoping that in the future this team drafts better and starts to take more of an approach of stockpiling picks - whether via trade down / other options).

  34. If the new manager is any of Ozzie, Thome or Getz, then we know that Jerry is running the show. Hahn should resign.

  35. The problem is - that 4th round pick is basically a 5th rounder. If they picked up cap space - I would have thought they might have had a chance for more or gotten another future pick. So say a 4th rounder this year and a 4th rounder the following year. But hey - I'll take it. I'm really watching the Rams & Montgomery.

  36. Excuses are like .............. Good front offices / ownership make trades, acquire talent, to make-up for injuries when they are in the hunt, which given our division we were ... ours did nothing, because they suck

  37. Where is this Konerko talk coming from? Was his name really mentioned somewhere?

  38. They have gone through three trainers in the past few years (Herm, Ball now Kirk) and a few strength and conditioning people (Thomas, Torborg and the new guy). I think the problem is actually deeper than just the person in charge but more of the overall philosophy towards training, conditioning, nutrition, sleep schedules etc. I was given a quote that "The Sox play checkers when other teams are playing chess" in these matters. And remember last fall Hahn announced the Sox were going to conduct a study to try to get a handle on why all the injuries. Those results were never made public so no one knows what that study concluded. Alan Thomas quit or was fired depending on who you talk to because he disagreed with those results. His feeling was all the Sox injuries were directly related to COVID and the limitations that imposed. That may be true however the Sox were dealing with serious injuries at both the major and minor league levels before 2020 as well.

  39. I, personally, want nothing to do with Juju. Nothing against him and I don't think he's bad but He's in an offense that does nothing but throw the ball with the greatest TE in history opening things up for him and the greatest QB talent ever. His biggest season also came with prime AB on the other side. I could be wrong but I don't think he's every truly been a #1 which is what this team desperately need

  40. I'm guessing that there are concerns with him being able to get the most out of these players in regards to accountability. And Jerry hates Astros.

  41. There was a very early report out there that Espada wasn't impressed with the Sox, but the Sox were impressed with him. No idea how true this was, or if this is even a factor, but it is something that stuck in my mind.

  45. Sox pretty much have to ride out 2023. They have a lot coming off the books after this season, and if 2023 is a flop, I could see some major changes and sell-type moves leading into 2024. But I think you have to at least try to one more time with this core with some minor tweaks, ideally a legit LH OF and solid SP. I think payroll lands between $190-200M again.
