Every time the White Sox bring in someone from outside of the organization, the better I feel about this off season.10 points

I would love Clevinger at 2/$20M. I think that’s the exact type Of move they need to finish out the starting 5.5 points

Fields plays well again and the Bears passed Detroit now in the draft standings.. I call that a win in the long haul.3 points

My blame goes to the defense giving up 31 and the amount of penalties they had. Fields’ INT wasn’t great. He needs to get better at throwing down the field instead of just evading people, even though that is a huge part of his game. I’ll take these losses that are close and hope there is improvement with an actual fully stocked team next year.2 points

Imagine if Jerry was actually a good businessman and was willing to bring in a quality front office person whose previous organization just won the World Series at the expense of the incumbent who has proven to be incapable of being a top tier major league GM. But alas, Jerry will stick with the same insular leadership group who has consistently failed to build a best in class organization and hope that a new leader in the dugout will solve all our problems.2 points

Oh interesting so he worked his way up to being an executive in one of the most successful orgs in the league before taking over a GM role and overseeing them make an ALCS, 2 WS births and a WS 5 years after their original? Let’s pump the brakes thinking he’s good.2 points

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jErNNEJmtDVPn2O0uGH1KWcJk1HPK1KglImWNw1ptPk/edit?usp=sharing After you open, go to File > Make a copy I locked access to just view on the main spreadsheet, so you need to make a copy to use it. This year I just used fangraphs crowdsource salaries and some of spotrac's market value to fill in the FA salaries. Then used a pretty simple $2.5M for smaller FAs. Probably overpaying, but, whatever you can adjust. If there is an issue with sox team salaries, I don't care, just change it on your own.1 point

JMO but I think with Giolito his velocity and carry are correlated. He never had even average spin. What he did have is carry, and that was way down this year.1 point

This was the thing Pedro was leaking out at his press conference when Rick changed the subject. This is good, or at least better than nothing.1 point

I was going to mention those 3 years which was painful for me as I became a fan in 1952 and never experienced a losing season by a White Sox team. The funny thing about it is that I was in Vietnam all of 1968 but still followed the Sox in the daily Stars and Stripes Newspaper. I remember one day when the Sox made the front page as they had a photo and caption of Hoyt Wilhelm breaking the record for most appearances by a pitcher.1 point

I have to think Johnson is hurt. I know he came out of the Dolphins game last week with something (hip?) and he's not been right. Guy was a legit shutdown corner up until last week.1 point

Fields had some great plays but a lot to learn from in the game as well. Penalties were brutal and Jaylon Johnson was a total turd today. Sanborn made some flash plays. Fields took more hits than I would have liked in this game but some growth and the bounce back from that int was nice.1 point

After listening to the latest White Sox Talk Podcast episode with Jon Morosi, I think I’ve lost all optimism for next year. The off-season they came up with was trading Giolito for Teoscar Hernandez and then resigning Cueto and signing Ross Stripling to complete the pitching staff. Don’t get me wrong, Teoscar is fine player, but I’d be super disappointed if that was our off-season. And honestly, it’s hard to expect much better with Rick Hahn making the trade. EDIT: And maybe Kevin Kiermaier and/or Adam Frazier.1 point

Let’s neither over nor undersell James Click. Click genuinely did not build that. Only about 1/3 of the players on that roster were acquired by him. Furthermore, the development programs the Astros had going that helped their pitchers and hitters clearly existed before he was there. He did build a stellar, championship bullpen. That was nearly all him. He also didn’t trade away anyone who since became a star - that could have been a risk with guys like Peña, Franber Valdez, etc. He also didn’t sign major busts. The guys he did bring in or sign included guys like Neris and Verlander. Better than Hahn? You betcha, but a trained octopus could meet that standard. Best in baseball? I don’t think he got a shot to prove that true or false. He was fine, but in an already established excellent circumstance. He couldn’t have done better, he could have done worse and didn’t, but it’s possible a lot of guys could have matched his performance given what he walked into.1 point

I'd be curious to know where Houston spends money in INT, analytics, and in drafting & developing vs the White Sox. Staff included. Smarter player payroll allocation is only one part of the story.1 point

By the way the driving force behind SportsVision wasn't JR...it was Eddie Einhorn.1 point

All I know is 2 years were wasted with the hiring of TLR, this might have JR's biggest blunder in his 41 years of his torturous ownership with so many blunders, it's a miracle that there are still White Sox fans around on the planet.1 point

Or that he was very very high on the list of reasons why this team didn't win last season?1 point

If I'm understanding this correctly, a team that seemingly doesn't want to take on much payroll this offseason is exploring the opportunity to trade major young assets for a player who plays the same position as Grandal, a 34 year old washed FA signing costing the Sox 18 million dollars in 2023. And he bats right handed. Awesome.1 point

Murphy is a stud, but blowing up the farm system for a catcher given all of the other needs doesn't strike me as a great idea.1 point
-
Seems like you have a vendetta against him and can't understand the reasons he hasn't lived up to potential yet. Do you think Jose would have done as well as he's done for us if we asked him to play out of position in his first two years with the club? AV was a #3 draft pick and was deemed the most complete hitter in the entire draft. Play him a full year in his natural position and we will finally see that potential that "People here" envision.1 point

That's why I've been whining the last year about giving Rodon away. It was like Hahn was working for another team and not the White Sox by not extending the QO to Rodon, not to mention after not doing that I wanted them to resign him. He screwed up in my book twice on Rodon and more than that by using money that should've been paid to Rodon on crap a guy like Kelly ! Damn he sucks.1 point
