  1. I’m sure Kopech will be ready for a full season by 2030.

  2. I'd much rather take Harper propelling the Sox to a WS appearance and missing halfish of the following season than not having him at all.

  3. I'm not even advocating for signing Judge, never entertained it because we all know it's not happening. Hypothetically speaking, I don't care if they're cooked for a decade if it didn't work out because it would've at least shown that they're serious about trying to win in their proclaimed "window" over constantly shopping at TJ Maxx for all their free agents. To me, missing out on both Harper and Machado because of sheer incompetence is the biggest failure of the rebuild era.

  4. They aren't tight on money they just don't want to spend it on payroll. Either out of greed or just JR screwing the FO over for pushing out his friend. But they aren't legitimately tight on cash that can't be possible with all the different revenue streams. There's no fucking way.

  5. I think this is my least favorite type of post, the hyperbole swing in the opposite direction is just so worthless. It makes you sound fucking stupid.

  7. Going into a "competitive" season and banking on ReyLo being a starter seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

  8. I love me some catfish sammich. Fried okra on the side. Tabasco. Tall glass of brisk Lipton iced tea. Keep your hands and feet out of the eating area.

  9. Judge will be 31 early in the season and has the big body type that tends to not age very well. Harper and Machado were 26 when they were free agents and were about as good of free agent superstar bets as you'll ever see - as people said at the time. That isn't Monday morning quarterbacking here.

  10. Not bad use of the AJ Pollock money saved for 2023.

  12. Q and Cueto are the definition of old blood in this example.

  13. I don’t care if we only got four quality years out of the deal, sign Judge to a 9/$342M deal and I would be the happiest person in the world.

  14. Your 2023 Chicago White Sox.....Welcome to the Pointless Forest

  15. Fields had the 2 picks but he was really poised passing today. Probably best I have seen him as a passer. And winning would have been bad draft wise - so fields was good…bears also maintain strong draft position.

  16. So unless we start unloading serious money we are one league average signing away from not having enough payroll room to afford a plate of Nashville hot chicken.

  17. Yep…I remember when he was super excited a couple years ago at the winter meetings when he acquired Nomar Mazara

  18. In a world in which what’s left of Clevinger gets $12 mil for 1 year, Gio for $10.8 is a pretty darn good risk. He doesn’t have to be top 3 Cy Young to be well worth it. If the Sox are serious about being “in their competitive window,” you would not trade Gio unless you got a haul.

  19. You don't let Abreu walk at 3/58 if you're just going to sign Josh Bell. If they were open to moving AV for an OF, they would have re-signed Abreu.

  20. I’d be more open to it if there were any pitching depth in the upper minors, or if the org weren’t deathly afraid of pay for starters on the open market.

  21. Mutual options are never exercised by both.. Basically it's a 1 year 12 million with 4 million of it deferred to after next season. The Sox will be on the hook for the additional 4 million even if they exercised it.
    2 points
  22. No. Option has to be exercised by both parties. It's either a 1/12 or 2/20 deal. It's just deferring $4M until next year.

  23. I think it was Cali that suggested trade Hendriks and have ReyLo close, and that gave me pause but worth considering. But I still think ReyLo is closer to being a closer now than he is to going back into the rotation.

  24. More like the $100M+ question given how much starting pitchers cost now.

  25. If Sox trade AV, let Abreu walk and then turn around and give Josh Bell 3/$48M. Oh my.
    2 points
  26. But then you suggested signing Josh Bell to replace Vaughn. If we’re willing to spend, then just sign Nimmo. Which option would you rather have? 1. Reynolds OF, Bell 1B, no Montgomery in the system 2. Nimmo OF, Vaughn 1B, Montgomery still in the system I would take option 2, and it’s not particularly close in my opinion.

  27. Players that people on the this board like and talk about trading for
    2 points
  28. Damn Reading posts here and Twitter you would think Reynolds is the next coming of Mike trout. Yes, we need to give up Vaughn, gio, and Montgomery... Fucking dumbasses .......any and all of you who believe that ?

  30. That's a case of not seeing the forest through the trees. JR suffers from the same problem. Harper's contract would have largely paid for itself already.

  31. What if you truly believe Quintana will have a better season than Giolito (and you knew you could sign Quintana)? Then you wouldn’t even need a haul.

  32. I would not be surprised by Rays there. Disney money coming in clutch for them.

  34. If the Sox anticipated shopping anywhere but the Salvation Army, there would have been Soxfest this year. They gave away they are cowards, they also gave away they weren’t planning on doing enough that would get Soxfest attendees minds off of 2022 this winter.

  38. I would do Corlas straight up for Reynolds’s. Reynolds is proven, Corlas is still a prospect I don’t think Corlas is a Tatis Reynolds hitting in our hitter friendly ballpark would be great and HE’S a switch hitter BUT they would want more than just Corlas

  39. He only used it and the curveball against LH hitters though. He was strictly fast ball -slider against righties. I’d imagine he’d use the curve more as a starter against righties, but that was his best pitch when he first came up, so…it’s a debatable proposition at least

  40. Maggs had an 8.0 WAR season his 3rd year in Detroit. If Vaughn is capable of 8 WAR seasons , getting rid of him before he even hits arb would cement Hahn as worst Sox GM ever, and he would be high on the all time league list.

  41. I'd rather trade lynn and hendricks then get creative with the extra 33m saved Both have generous club options and should also return average starter talent If done correctly hahn could fill 2 holes plus have around 60m+ to spend while only losing an aging #3 and closer best case with gio is you'll get around 2WAR in return but won't get any payroll relief

  43. I think it would be dumb to trade Lucas when his value is so low, I would hope for a first half rebound then evaluate at the deadline to see where he/team are at.

  44. Of course it is, but what threat is it to the pirates that he is leaving in FA? They know that already. They’ll trade him when they are good and ready or just let him walk and collect comp picks.

  45. Yeah. That's what Fegan implied in the article.
