81-81 with no money to improve the team is the epitome of mired in mediocrity.11 points

Can you imagine walking into the Winter meetings hotel and you see GMs from the top 10 markets in baseball dropping 30+ mil contracts left and right (holding huge brief cases full of cash)...and Hahn is sitting in the corner worried that his $15 dollar manhattan may not be an approved business expense...10 points

Still think it was a good trade, but letting the same people lead you out of a hot mess they got you in usually isn’t a great idea.8 points

We have zero reason to have an ounce of faith. I think 2022 broke a lot of us. The FO really needs to step up, and all signs point to them stepping back. We as fans have every reason to feel disheartened and jaded right now.7 points

Chris Sale was traded on this day 6 years ago for Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Luis Basabe, and Victor Diaz. The trade signaled that the Sox were tired of being "mired in mediocrity" and that a full blown rebuild had begun. It is pretty clear that this trade was a total failure for the White Sox. Sale helped Boston win a world series in 2018. He has been hurt for the last few years and will likely never be the same stud that he once was. However, flags fly forever and Sale helped Boston accomplish its goal of being world champions. As for the Sox, Victor Diaz and Luis Basabe are no longer with the organization and likely out of professional baseball altogether. Moncada's career with the Sox is heading south fast. Sox fans were promised Robinson Cano junior but instead got someone more similiar to Ryan McMahon or Jonathan Schoop. The warning signs with Moncada were 100% present at the time of the trade as well. The Sox are now stuck with an overpaid dude who seems more interested in binge eating twinkies, fast cars, and making lame music videos. Things haven't worked out so great with Kopech either. 6 years later and the guy has only made 33 starts in a White Sox uniform. Gone are the days of the young flamethrower wowing Sox fans by throwing 105 mph in his Instagram workout videos. Sox nation thought they were getting a hard nosed Texan fireballer like Nolan Ryan or Kerry Wood. Instead they got a dude with a similiarity score way closer to Keegan Thompson. Let this trade be a lesson for all of White Sox nation who cheered on the tank job. Tanking with a front office lead by Rick Hahn and KW, and JR as the owner, was a terrible idea from the start and destined to fail. 6 years since the Sale trade and the Sox still haven't won a single playoff series. Complete and total failure all around.6 points

Not yet. Still believe at least one bold move is coming (parting with Major League piece(s)). Moves they have been talking are pretty unlike the Sox. But doesn't mean anything until there is real action. Hopefully during these meetings, but thought something would have happened by now.6 points

We’re getting the 6th spot or I say we permaban Parkman as a sacrifice to the baseball gods.5 points

Imagine being an 87 years old owner of a professional baseball team and you’re cutting payroll in the middle of your competitive window after a 25% increase in attendance and receiving $30M in free cash from Disney. I thought Jerry losing his wife would create a sense of urgency to win, but the dude simply doesn’t give a f***. Breaking even every single year is far more important than winning a World Series. The dude has officially proven that point.5 points

Yet there are people who believe Grandal being the 54th highest paid player in baseball is a reason the Sox can't afford to do something or are better off not signing good players in free agency ? The Castellanos contract looks terrible for them & will likely be a bad deal, but it's funny how big market teams can overcome a sunk cost if they're actually determined to win4 points

I think that is the stuff my Mom used to have me track down when her Dr told her she was low in Iron....they used to sponsor the Lawrence Welk show so she trusted them.4 points

We'll never hear the end of it from @CaliSoxFanViaSWside if Sox actually acquire Outman. I think I am "Out, Man" for that reason alone.4 points

The current host on MLBN is a White Sox fan. They just discussed the team. Hes more depressed than any of us and is flabbergasted at their lack of aggression. Said this is the most significant offseaon of his lifetime4 points

Morale of this fan base truly can’t be much lower. I don’t think things are as dire as most, and certainly I find the penny pinching theme to be outrageous at this stage, but Sox really need to make a big move to prove to this fan base they mean business. Rick has said as much earlier this offseason. I still have hope there is more in the tank for this offseason than bargain bin hunting.4 points

Yoan is pretty much the canary in the coal mine here. Of all of the players we need recovery from, he is the one that may well show up as an indicator as to how good this managerial team is.4 points

Knowing Hendriks, he probably has highly conservative teams/cities on his list (and I respect him for this)4 points

I’m fine with retooling, assuming it’s non-prospects. You would be amazed at the number of people that think Timmy might be traded.3 points

Give us the goods Greek-konerko! Need specific teams and players coming back so I can pretend Hahn will actually do something this week other than make stupid one-liners.3 points

800-ish OPS the last 2 seasons, guy probably faced the shift a lot, gives them a lot more weight in the middle of that order. Had a bad 2020 and an excellent 2019. Just puts them in a better position to compete with us.3 points

Man, it is so frustrating to not even see any rumors involving the Sox. I know there's plenty of time, but you'd think at the winter meetings there'd be some rumblings. Either the Sox are in stealth mode, or they're not really doing anything. I'm leaning toward the latter.3 points

Sign all the relievers....put all the 1B/DH in corner outfield positions. Oh they can get creative....it just isn't smart creativity haha.3 points

Look if this was a team with a history of spending, sure, be patient. But we are here precisely because team DIDN'T follow up on its promise to invest once the team was good.3 points

So the White Sox would have had zero money to spend if Pollock did the smart money thing and exercised his option. That’s building a sustained winner right there. And the Gavin Sheets is an Of talk just shows you how committed they are to putting a championship roster on the field. if you think about it, JRs refusal to try to dominate the division is so sad. If, instead of weaseling out last winter, they actual signed someone they wanted everyone to know they pursued, Cleveland probably trades Ramirez. The Sox play down to their competition. I still think they can win the division, but why just get by? You expect your employees to do their best every day. It’s time JR starts doing his best every day, or let someone who will take over.3 points

Remember back a few years when the Sox had a bottom 5 payroll. Rick Hahn promised us over and over the money would be spent and they would bring in premium talent. That money never got spent. It's been sitting in jerry bank account accruing interest at a rapid pace. Fast forward a handful of years. They peaked up to the 7th payroll, but doing so without ever signing premium talent. And now they are already pulling back. This is just ridiculous. Why can't Jerry do us a solid and just sell the damn team. White Sox fans deserve better than this guy.3 points

Why add talent in your contention window, when you can subtract talent and save money? This is a no brainer to Jerry’s wallet. At this stage, every Sox fan should be pissed. I can’t believe we endured that dogcrap rebuild just for Jerry to cry poor when it’s time to compete. Jerry, do us all a favor and sell the damn team.3 points
