  1. I've read the name "Outman" entirely too often this offseason.

  2. Cartaya is the Dodgers best prospect. He should be included in any trade including both TA and Hendriks. I am far from some Outman stan, but he does fill some needs. He is an LH OF, he can play defense and he is MLB ready -- those are very valuable things to the White Sox right now. Despite part of me dying inside to have listen to Cali tell us how he is the greatest baseball mind of all time until we die if Outman were acquired, he does make some sense as a third piece in these deals. The middle piece just give one of their close to MLB ready SP prospects - obviously Miller would be best, but seems unlikely we'd get their 2 best prospects which is why I said Pepiot/Stone. I think its pretty obvious the Sox need to target both LH hitters and guys that aren't butchers in the infield, which is why I avoided Vargas/Busch. An all glove no bat MI like Amaya doesn't do much for me. We have enough MI prospects. Obviously moving on from TA creates a huge hole, but if you trade TA/Hendriks, you may as well trade everyone. Can target a SS in a different deal.

  4. I really thought it couldn’t be that bad. Young hungry team, change the game, Renteria’s game 3. It was worse. Destroyed everything. I’ve been the apologist for decades, 109 wins etc. They broke me this year. TLR killed all the spirit or at least it looks that way.

  7. Perfect depth. He can come up and not miss a beat slapping grounders into the dirt and playing bad defense.

  8. Outman stinks. Way too many words used on a guy who stinks. He's 26; he's a filler in a deal, not someone you target.

  9. They wouldn’t, but the Sox have bored even their most knowledgeable fans to the point they spend their time on trade scenerios that will never happen.

  13. He'd be more valuable to our chances of winning a division if he resigned with the Tigers. But I'm fine with adding MLB experienced depth to our system.

  18. The fan base has been molded in to what it is by 42 years of Jerry Reinsdorf's mediocre ownership. The White Sox are a potential goldmine for a new owner if they think outside of the box.

  19. I'd always be open to trading any player if you can get value. Remember, this is the same fan base that spent years boo'ing Frank Thomas. It doesn't surprise me that the fan base wouldn't like Tim Anderson for reasons that, to me, seem pretty obvious.

  20. While I think anytime someone is mentioned a lot it seems to inflate their importance, I think there are things about Outman that are good. His power became a big thing last year, he hit 31 homers. I think we will see a number of later breakout prospects the next few years because of this. James outman came in the league as a 21 year old. Then he had a pretty good year of A ball as 22. that's all normal. Then all the sudden the next time he plays baseball he's a 24 year old just hitting A+. He's moved up a level mid season each of the last two years. Some of these unexpected profiles are going to show up because of the extremely rare "no baseball for 1.5 years".

  21. Seriously? Do you have any links to a scouting report that links Madrigal to the OG Tony Gywnn? Any kid with that kind of bat profile is likely getting picked 1:1 straight out of high school and has no need for college baseball. It was never ever okay to take Madrigal with a top 5 pick.

  23. Attendance does matter. Maybe not to the extent it did in the 70s and 80s. They want people in the park. People who complain about having to spend $5 more to sit downstairs than upstairs have no problem sucking back 6 $14 beers, or spending $20 on a nacho helmet. Not only that, it shapes what happens later. A kid who went to Sox games with their parents and friends is probably far more likely to take their kids to Sox games when they are older. The Sox drew 2 million. This should be a team that flirts with 3 million. That would mean at least another $50 million per year. Plus, if you aren’t popular, your TV ads generate less money. The Sox own part of their station. While whatever they get per game with their broadcasting contract might not matter, the station makes a lot more money when the teams are popular to watch because they make a lot more on ads. The Hawks, Bulls, and Sox are now all in the same boat. You really have to be a diehard to even know what time the game is on.

  24. If you're trading them TA + Hendriks, I want Cartaya+. Full stop at anything less. Cartaya + Pepiot/Stone + Outman. Gives us C of the future (who is blocked by Will Smith in LAD), a rotation option for 2023 and an OF option for 2023. Also frees up $25M ($40M in total) to figure out 1 more OF spot, SS and 2B.

  25. Vaughn will be at 1B, Eloy will likely DH. Oscar Colas will play RF and they'll add another LHH to play LF. Will it be better? I have no idea. The lineup will be more balanced and the defense will be better overall though.

  26. This is such bullshit. I honestly have no idea why so many continue to carry water for Hahn by making these excuses. Kenny Williams won much more than Rick Hahn as the GM of the team. With his trades, his signings, his moves... Rick Hahn has one of the worst track records in FA in MLB history. Even if you want to argue he can't sign big deals, there have been plenty of ways to supplement and add depth to this roster with the 195 million he was allowed to spend without wasting 15-20 million a year on complete garbage. Big contracts are Jerry's fault... now the small contracts are Kenny's fault. GTFOH with that.

  29. Glad we got rid of Abreu and used all that money we "saved" to get..... no one. But hey we get to watch Vaughn and his defense at 1B next year. That's what counts.

  30. Come on man. This is just not how it works. Convince Jerry to spend more? No shot. I respect the idealism but this is just not a real world thing. Do you think Ivy League GM's are clamoring for these 11 year signings for aging superstars? Hell no. These are rogue owners deciding that they want to spend money and win. Until Jerry decides to do the same (he won't), this is how it will be. Last offseason was botched for sure. The reliever contracts and Leury deal were bad and it might be hamstringing then now. That's on Rick Hahn but he's a middle manager at this point.

  31. What are you expecting? They don't have any money to spend. I think it'll be a Gallo type free agent in LF and Colas in RF. Maybe they add a 2B for cheap. The pitching staff is basically set. What is the alternative here? They should spend money but the owner won't. Because of that, you can improve your weaknesses slightly and take a stab at the division or you can change up the mix by moving guys like TA, Giolito and Hendriks. Doesn't seem like they want to do the latter. I think they'll bank on health, lineup flexibility and guys bouncing back and if that doesn't happen they'll have quite a bit to trade at the trade deadline.

  32. Feels like the Sox massively overpay here.

  33. Not defending Hahn because he sucks, but part of the foolish money spending is a result of not being able to make significant long-term commitments. And that falls entirely on Jerry for being a risk adverse POS.

  34. Convinced the front office doesn’t even use computers. They just use sheets of notebook paper with handwritten notes that say “trade for Ohtani.”

  36. BTW do we know if TA handles his own social media or has someone doing it for him? Those could be an auto bot just liking anything he's mentioned in.

  37. You're not wrong. The FO has spent a lot of foolish money, which really hurts when you have a tight budget. But the fact that there are teams throwing out HUGE contracts while we are figuring out ways to get creative with trades and hopeful bounce-back candidates because we have to stay at this strict budget of $185M (or whatever it is) is ridiculous. Hahn deserves blame, but JR is the bigger problem by a mile, in my opinion.

  38. Yep. We need JR to di…scover how much he is handcuffing this team and just sell.

  42. Every team can afford the contract Nimmo just signed. What is the point of being a billionaire, owning a baseball team, & not doing everything possible to try and win?
    2 points
  43. Naw. A smart organization would hold onto the shortstop they control for 2 years at least until Montgomery is ready and would instead go sign the LH outfielder who is a much better fit at a position where they have no help coming any time soon.

  44. It shouldn’t even take outside the box thinking. The parking lots sit empty half of the year. A new owner that allowed entertainment to be built starts pulling in dollars year round. Put out a consistent winner and the fan base not only supports them, but also grows. Win consistently and you add playoff revenue regularly. It’s not rocket science.

  45. An owner like him would never buy a team with a non existing fan base. The point of owning is to make $. None of the owners in baseball lose money on purpose just to win. They're rich, not stupid.

  46. Sox with Jerry as the owner have no shot in this environment. Mets also just signed Robertson.

  48. You're a real beat off eh? His presence would be the positive subtraction, there would be a haul coming back to supplement his exit on the field. I didn't know I had to be so literal. And where were you Thanksgiving night when I let the good folks on here know the team was signing a starter? You won't find any time line that had that s%*# before me. By about a day. I'll take my L's but be consistent or f*** off and ignore me.
