For what it's worth just got this from my source who had dinner with JR and everyone last Wednesday. I mentioned that if either Haber or Getz were named the permanent G.M. nothing would really change. I am VERY encouraged by this comment: "Based I what I heard him (JR) say at dinner last week I would be shocked if either one (Haber or Getz) remains let alone get that job. My understanding is they are both part of the problem."8 points

These are facts (OK maybe with a shade of opinion): 1. JR is physically and emotionally done with owning the Sox after the loss of two family members in recent years as well as the implosion of the last 2 White Sox seasons. 2. JR’s capital gains tax situation is the primary impediment to a sale. 3. The Sox will never leave the Chicago market. As JR has admitted publicly in recent years (e.g., Cigar Aficionado interview article) regarding the proposed move to Tampa in the late 1980’s was solely leverage and a negotiating ploy. 4. Even that idiot Manfred would not allow a Chicago White Sox move – half of the Chicago area is worth a multiple of markets like Nashville, Portland, and Charlotte. 5. This story was leaked to attract potential suiters / interest (more opinion). 6. Soldier Field is a logistical and facility nightmare- it could never be used for 81 baseball games. 7. White Sox fans are still a strong fan base, but they won’t fully support the team until there is an ownership change (pure fact). 8. In the current political / economic climate, (and Illinois being one of the three worst financially stable states) it will be near impossible to get public funding for a new stadium. Most practical / logical approach is additional investment in the GRF area with Corporate sponsorship support led by new ownership.8 points

Nashville isn't happening. First, taxpayers just ponied up a s%*# ton of money for a new Titans stadium. Second, the southeast is Braves country. It would be very difficult for a different team to make inroads into that longstanding Braves fanbase. The threat to move is just a negotiating tactic. With the current lease ending in six years, this is a good time for the Sox to start negotiations on a new stadium deal. For one, with the Bears basically headed out of Chicago, the political climate is good for the Sox to negotiate. Second, Jerry knows the team will be sold when he dies. If he can secure a sweetheart deal from the city/state now, he'll up the franchise valuation significantly, just in time for the sale. Point being, the media is taking normal due diligence by the Sox and creating a whole bunch of clickbait sensationalism.8 points

You need someone to answer the phones while you're searching for a new GM. I'll complain about things like that after a search is done, not before.7 points

So you're telling me that in a mere 40 years my team could be sittin' pretty in a market just pulling up on 7 million people shy of the Chicago area? AND drag shows are illegal? That's it, pack up the truck7 points

Even not being a top tier team and mired in mediocrity, the Sox are #15 most valuable team in baseball. A's are 29th. Give the Sox a consistently good team and they'd skyrocket. https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozanian/2023/03/23/baseballs-most-valuable-teams-2023-price-tags-are-up-12-despite-regional-tv-woes/7 points

If Jerry ever moved the Sox out of Chicago, then baseball would officially be dead to me. I would not give the league a single second of my time or a penny of my money. As someone who is addicted to this god-forsaken franchise, being away from it when I lived in Nashville was impossibly tough. And while my fandom stayed strong through MLBTV, Soxtalk, blogs, Fegan, etc., not being a part of the live experience was hard. And that experience is all about Chicago, our fans, and our culture. There is something unique about this franchise that has kept me loyal through all these down years and that can’t be replaced with a bunch of Nashville assholes. I know many fans here aren’t local, but the White Sox that we all love only exist within the confines of Chicago and no one should be cool with Jerry taking that away from us.7 points

I grew up in Chicago and I rooted for the Raiders as a kid (Bo Jackson on Tecmo Bowl was unstoppable!). But, the White Sox - in Chicago - is home. If they leave the state - and their 100+ year history - it’s just not the same team for me. I’d probably be done with MLB.7 points

Chicago is a world class city and a great sports town that can easily support two major league baseball teams. And I believe two teams can thrive within the city limits. It's not a GRF problem. GRF is easily accessible by public transportation, has ample parking for tailgating etc. It's a "family friendly" facility. There are more than enough Sox fans that would and have supported the team. Sox fans are fed up and demand competent leadership and ownership. I was at Italian Fest on Taylor street Saturday evening. You can argue its south side but its only about one mile south of Madison Ave. I started noticing many fest goers with Sox hats and jerseys on- it was easily 5 to one over Cubs apparel and the Cubs had a day game earlier in the day. There is a loyal fan base out there that someone with a bit of business sense could truly succeed in the third biggest market in the US. Half of Chicago is worth a multiple of Nashvilles, Charlottes, etc. We just need competent ownership that wants to win and compete the way the game is operated now - international scouting, analytics, etc., and, most importantly, treat your fans as your most valued resource. But none of that will change under the current ownership.7 points

Take it for whatever it's worth, but I heard in the middle of 2022 season JR was mulling selling and this season would be a big factor. Very interested parties at that time were George Lucas and his wife. Also heard Shad Khan and Tony Khan from Jacksonville Jags had interest. Didn't think too much of it at the time, but today is interesting.6 points

yeah, though I'll still make my pitch. Here is the scenario where David Stearns goes to the white sox over the mets: - Jerry Reinsdorf really hates cohen and his main motivation in life is just vindictiveness Tha's my pitch. Now if he hired me president (and I will apply, I have an excellent resume of posts documenting the problems with the org, and I am WAY better than WBSWF), I mean I would just tell stearns he can save so much by keeping his milwaukee playpen and he gets to use those private plane services (I'll plant some trees)6 points

The owner is still in charge….we’ve seen this play out before. I, and every other Sox fan, should wait to see who the hire is before getting excited. This is a good day for the Sox organization, no doubt. But as others have said, if Chris Getz is placed as new President of Baseball Ops, or Jim Thome….we’re in for the same old s%*#6 points

I would be concerned if it wasn’t Levine. Half this board have better sources with the Sox than Bruce does. I certainly trust Lip more than Levine when it comes to Sox news.6 points

I don't understand the fascination people have with placing a baseball team at Soldier Field. It's a nightmare to get to. The CTA stop is literally a mile a while. LSD is always crowded. The Bears do it less than 10 times a season. For the White Sox, it would be horrible.6 points

Fwiw with the Tony jokes, he looked really rough during a Cards broadcast the other day. Saw speculation it was cancer. TLR had an awful, awful and infuriating second run here. But f*** cancer. If true, I hope he can beat it.5 points

Think about this from Reinsdorf perspective, he may not be alive when the stadium deal expires in six years. Crain is a very reputable publication, so he is definitely putting this out there to set the groundwork for getting what he wants — the best deal possible. If he can earn more from a potential buyer floating the idea of relocating the team, then that is what will happen. If the team remains in Chicago, there will be some significant improvements to the neighborhood and/or stadium on the backs of the taxpayer. Which will only be done with the purpose of enriching himself and the investors once the team is sold. If you just answer every question with, what will earn Jerry Reinsdorf the most money, you will probably be on the right track.5 points

Vinnie and Herb on CHGO basically blow up the reasoning for a Nashville stadium due to market size, which is fairly obvious for anyone that doesn't want to be a doom and gloomer. Even with the Cubs, it'd be asinine. It'd be like the Mets moving to Orlando or Portland.5 points

It's a scare tactic for the City. No one would move a team out of Chicago.5 points

For all those worried the Sox may move to Nashville, it isn't going to happen in JR's time. If it was so easy to move, a couple of teams would have been there for years, and there is no way the AL will abandon Chicago like they would Oakland or Tampa.5 points

As far as I’m concerned if the White Sox go to Nashville, they’re dead and buried. MLB would probably be dead to me5 points
