The fact that some people on this site think that no team will pursue him for their rotation next season is laughable imo.4 points

My estimation early on, of 70-92, was WAY more optmistic than I thought. Only 3 teams in baseball have given up more runs this year, than the Sox. Only 2 teams in baseball have scored fewer runs this year, than the Sox. Championship Window4 points

You know what is probably ultimately most galling? I probably should make this its own thread. The Twins are 7 or 8 over .500 and have the division in the bag. Since 2005, the division has remained crap and the Sox can't even consistently field a team the last 18 years to regularly win division titles. The Sox out of all the teams in this worthless division should have dominated it the last 18 years. That's why I was against the stupid tank job and rebuild job that failed. Just do it the ol fashioned way, get some free agents to go with your Sale, Buehrle types and Frank Thomas types and Abreu types and fricking hang around .500 and win the damn division. Once you get in the playoffs even as a .500ish Central Division champ, you always have the chance to catch fire like the 05 postseason and win it all. Sox should be dominating that division and instead are division patsies. It's really sickening when you think about it. Minnie has a blah team this year, 7 over .500 or so and yet they run away with the division. It should be the Sox doing that folks. Disgraceful. And the team next year on paper will be worse than this year's almost certainly. Ugh. It's so disappointing. Kenny and Hahn and Jerry should be so proud of their work.4 points

Is the Bears' offensive line good? No. It's not Is Luke Getsy designing game plans to help get the most out of Justin Fields? No... I honestly have no idea what he's even trying to accomplish actually. He's only had 4 designed runs all year, that is coaching malpractice. That said, first acknowledging those things, Justin's absolutely been a factor in his own failure here. The pass protection isn't great but it doesn't help when Justin stands there for 4 seconds staring at open WRs and doesn't throw the ball. The thing about playing QB is if you're good enough to start in the NFL, you'll see evidence of it even if everything around you is on fire and you're not able to play to your full potential. If you asked me last season if I saw that in Justin Fields I would've said yes, of course, and the list of reasons you'd give for his lack of production wasn't excuses, it was explanations. But now the future is here and he's regressed - some of that is on the coaches, but if you have the goods, you'd do something other than passively sink to the level of mediocrity around you. Fields has out-of-this-world physical tools and he was said to have extremely high intelligence, he's gotta be better than this.2 points

The zone control is what makes him such a sight to behold in our system. He had an incredible selectivity from day one. That was wild, but then he's only cemented it deeper into his profile as he's moved up. Boy, if they can actually get him to stick at short too.2 points
-
I still find it odd that last week the issue in the media was the effort of the #3 wideout's blocking ability. Fields is regressing like every semi-talented White Sox player.2 points

This season is on the brink of spiraling out of control fast. There is a very real chance that this team is 10 games under 500 come May 1st. We heard the dont panic cause it is early in the season refrain all last year. We will hear it again now. How many times till we don't get fooled again?1 point

Tonight's game was how our guys were supposed to hit. Seriously. Check the box score. Timmy had an MVP type game. Most everybody got a hit or two. Nobody looked outmatched. Vaughn had some nice pokes. TA is up to .250 finally.1 point

Turned it on in the top of the 9th to see Grandal's bat drop that died at the warning track. Went to post about that but couldn't so had to start a gamethread.1 point

Just a heads up for something I discovered a few weeks ago - I use the Libby app to check out ebooks through my local library, and surprised to see that they offer Baseball America as part of the magazines you can electronically check out. Thought it might be worth letting some of our minor league followers know that if they have a library card, it might be worth checking the Libby app to see if you have free access to BA.1 point

CJ Abrams looks like a budding superstar, at worst a very valuable player as a 20/20 SS. He was picked two picks after Andrew Vaughn1 point

I do think, grand scheme of things, being in a good position with this QB class is gonna be one of those bursts of good luck in a bad situation. But the overall roster has got to improve. It is still very young/inexperienced. Ideally we feel better about our new RT/secondary later in the year.1 point

Regardless, I think watching the Sox will continue to feel like having your bones drunk out of you.1 point

Poles couldn't move Fields based on public perception. I will say though that they should have known going into this year that this is who he is and what is plan B. The 49ers have shown that missing on a QB and bad trade is not crippling if other aspects of the organization are working properly. The Bears look to be 0-2 in this hunt and the other aspects of the organization are subpar as well. Hopefully they are getting two high picks next year. Then they can trade one for additional draft capital.1 point

Are u serious? If they do the tank thing again they will have to move. NO FANS will support that again. Honestly if they go the tank route just to get No. 1 or 2 draft picks when they don't know who the hell to draft, I am speechless. I would be in favor of MLB completely getting rid of a couple teams, including our White Sox, if they decide to purposely reek the next 3-5 seasons while supposedly rebuilding. The only 2 guys who 'might' get us anything in tank-light trades are Robert, TA and Moncada maybe. Hope u are wrong!1 point

I'm not a huge Eberflus guy, but you can't tell if he's bad yet. They gutted his roster year 1. And when his defense was competent, they traded everything including the flooboards to it. Claypool - yea, that's bad Sticking with Fields - Absolutely not bad. You had to see if he would take the next step. If he turned good, you would be getting the axe from all sides about trading a young QB like that. You also had no one to replace him with. Lastly, last year's draft class, was average, at best. You just had a lot of teams needing QBs. This year's class, is much better. Caleb Williams is the cream of it, but Drake Maye wouldn't be bad either. I also believe it's based on record, and right now, it's looking like Carolina and the Bears will struggle to win. Passing on Jalen - nothing TBD. They didn't and still don't have the locker room. Hell, they're struggling with Chase Claypool out of all people. You think that's the environment to bring Jalen Carter into? The only other bad mark, but it's a big one, is the spending of cap space/FA. Poles tried to sign a guy to a big deal who wouldn't pass a physical. He reached on Tremaine Edmunds. His secondary that he drafted is pretty decent, but they have no pressure. They gutted the defense and are a lot worse. And I don't see reinforcements coming through.1 point

There are plenty or buildings and land around GRF that can be acquired. IMO, Sox will likely stay there regardless of ownership whether they rebuild or not. The only potentially viable option for a new stadium location might be Soldier Field if the Bears move and a deal can be worked out with the City who would then be looking for a new tenant.1 point

September 18, 1940 - A game originally played on June 20 with the Sox beating New York 1-0 in 11 innings, was ordered replayed by the commissioner’s office after the Yankees protested an out call on a fly ball in the second inning. A Sox win was literally taken away. In the original game, umpire John Quinn ruled that Sox left fielder Julius “Moose” Solters hung on to a foul ball off the bat of Bill Dickey long enough for it to be considered an out. New York’s protest was upheld by A.L. president Will Harridge on July 2 and declared the contest a no decision. The Sox found themselves in the middle of a pennant race and losing 9-8 in the eighth inning of the replayed game, which was the second game of a double header, when umpire Harry Geisel ordered the game ended, claiming it was too dark to finish. The decision meant a split for the two teams on the day after the Sox took the first game 6-3. September 18, 1971 – Sox outfielder Carlos May pulled off one of the rarest baseball feats of all when he got an inside-the-park grand-slam against the Angels Tom Murphy. May, a left-handed hitter, sliced a drive down the left field line at Comiskey Park in the first inning. California’s Ken Berry, the former Sox outfielder, slammed his head diving for the ball which rolled into the corner. By the time center fielder Mickey Rivers came over and threw it back home, Pat Kelly, Jay Johnstone and Bill Melton had crossed the plate ahead of May. The Sox behind pitcher Tom Bradley won the game 5-1. Inside-the-park grand-slams are even rarer than no-hitters. As of July 2022 there have been 225 inside-the-park grand-slam home runs dating back to 1881 in Major League Baseball. For comparison, there have been 304 no-hitters pitched in MLB games since 1876.1 point

You and all White Sox fans are in for disappointment over the next few seasons minimum because they will be tanking. 2021 was the lone season the Sox attempted to compete since the blackout game, and only because Jerry opened the purse strings for La Russa’s return to “right a wrong”. Hahn, of course, did a half ass job, with continued holes at RF, 2B, and defensively with DH Grandal behind the plate leading to the ass whupping applied by Houston, save the Leury home run the Sox will literally be paying for until October 2024.1 point

You weren't alone on that front. This franchise flushed multiple seasons down the toilet and the prize at the end of the rainbow was one division crown and a total ass kicking in the playoffs. I hope to never see another tank job on the South Side of Chicago for the rest of my days.1 point

no pretty sure if they just release grandal and moncada they'll make 95 wins because it was just a clubhouse problem that Pedro needs time to fix not a talent one.1 point

It would be great for a manager to just tell everyone "this guy just isn't a MLB level player. We should cut him but we just don't have anyone else." Or "I cringe anytime I have to go to the bullpen. Has there ever been a worse collection of arms?" How about a spring training press conference "We're not going to win 70 games this year. This franchise is a joke." It's exactly what we need to fire up the players and revitalize the fan base.1 point

More speed & athleticism would be great, but plate discipline & power are far more glaring holes. And realistically, where is speed and athleticism an actual problem? Robert is an all-world athlete in CF. Moncada & Anderson are great athletes when healthy on the left-side of the infield. Colas is fairly athletic for a guy of his size. So basically that leaves LF and 2B where you have your highest paid player in franchise history (who doesn’t fit this new focus) and a kid who is one of our few major league ready young players. Honestly, they’re simply going to trade Eloy for a guy to replace Colas in RF and call it a day. Throw in a Perez trade and that’s your 2024 positional group.1 point

1. Still has no concept of getting on base more as a priority for the worst team at it. 2. Where does he plan to get these more athletic players before next year? They have a handful of trade resources but not a lot, they have some money to spent, but they are already talking about their bullpen needs when they have about 0.75 starting pitchers out of 6. Presumably this would involve trading all their tolerable prospects considering they’d need like 15 players.1 point

Burger was 3 for 4 today with a 2 run homer. What a terrible, stupid trade. A 30+ homer everyday guy, well liked, with team control throughout 2028 for a minor league pitcher.1 point

Yep. Sox really don’t have much of anything of quality on the main roster. Outside of Robert and maybe Cease, it’s a big pile of shitty players and unknowns. I’m thinking TA might bring you back something decent at the trade deadline if he finally stays healthy and performs at his former rate. The jury is still out on Andrew Vaughn. But he would definitely need to take that next step in 2024 to obtain any sort of value. Moncada and Eloy will essentially be paid to leave if Getz decides to go down that route. Those two names will be the biggest names to watch this offseason. Can Getz even bring anything of value for Eloy? And will Jerry even allow Getz to DFA Moncada and his $24 million salary? The more I talk about this potential 2024 roster destruction and construction, the more I realize this team will likely not be able to compete until 2025 minimum. But when it’s time to finally rebuild a winner, will Jerry give Getz the necessary resources to go for it financially? I think we all know the answer to that question.1 point

The downfall is - he has no one to sell high on rate now. The cupboard is real bare.1 point

End of the day that is all you can control. Every one of this guys have parents. Should you get mad cause your kid isn’t the next Trout…no. Only thing any parent can wish for their kids is they work hard, play the game the right way, and do the best to maximize themselves to be the best they can be. Ultimately the best for one is not the best for the other. The same holds for ball players - you just want them to become the best they can. We get mad at the Sox but it is because the Sox seem to think Sheets can be something he isn’t. I don’t care how hard Sheers work, he just isn’t a major leaguer and certainly not a major league outfielder. But someone like Yoan or Eloy or Tim - they can be more and they aren’t and this whole team makes so many stupid mistakes (running, wrong cut off, weak at bats). Very clear a lot don’t put in the work - and work isn’t just what you do from the physical side, but also what they do with the mental side.1 point

Will the Sox even win a single series in April? 3x Baltimore at home. The O's curbstomped the Sox head to head last year. Tough series 3X Phillies at home: Philly is out to a tough start but they are defending NL champs. Sox also not off to good start against NL teams this year. 3X at Tampa. Have fun. 3x at Toronto. Sox always struggle in Toronto and Blue Jays offense is really really good. 4x Tampa at home: Have fun. Sox will be lucky to win 5 games the rest of this month.1 point
