  1. Benetti is going to be absolutely devastated that the pride of Naperville returns home and he won't get to call his games.

  2. 3 former first rounders still young enough to figure it out, a nice defensive piece and solid clubhouse guy in a position of need for a guy that serves no purpose on this team in 2024 or 2025 and hasn't been able to figure it out since the sticky stuff ban. I see nothing to complain about on this one.

  3. I will go on record..... I do not want to trade ELOY Put him at DH and let him hit. We will regret trading him away

  4. Apparently Getz went down to visit Eloy recently to see how he was doing. Speculation is that this basically was a "good bye and thanks for all you did" visit. Some feel he's the next to get shipped out.

  5. Eloy is productive when he is on the field. However, he is rarely on the field. Need someone who will play 145+ at the DH spot not 120, at best.

  6. This trade is a product of the dumpster fire Getz inherited. I'm sure he would have liked to get a long term high impact player but I think that will come in the Cease trade. This trade he addressed defense, base running, makeup and pitching depth. You know the things Hahn thought were a punch line. I think he did very well to make the organization better and hopefully the higher impact players will come soon though Nicky was a 6 war player as an everyday SS two years ago.

  7. I understand the negativity around here because this organization deserves all the hate. However, putting that aside did any of you think we were going to get anything for Bummer? You took fliers on 2 starting pitchers and one who has had a track record of being a really good pitcher before Achilles injuries. This is a damn good trade for AARON BUMMER Ok......now back to hating this organization.

  8. Whether it was intended that way or not, someone with a visible disability is likely to receive the word "normal" in a specific way, and Boyer is at best ignorant for not understanding that.

  9. So your team lost 101 games last season, not by design, and you tender every unsigned player on the 40-man a contract? I don't get that at all. I know people can be DFA'd and traded later, but I'm just confused as to why they ALL got tendered.

  10. Bummer will be a great piece for the Braves. That being said, the inevitable 2 walks and a bloop made watching him regularly the absolute worst stress out of the bullpen. Nicky can be a very solid SS stopgap until Colton comes in and shift to 2nd if any of our young guys still struggle. Ultimately he should be our infield super sub. Soroka is interesting. coming off injuries...THIS should be his first full health/built up strength season since his dominant 2019. I saw him pitch multiple times that year when I lived in Atlanta and his sinker is what was devastating. Coming out of 2023 he was trying to focus on a faster FB (that isn't his game). With some fresh looks from our pitching staff, I am hopeful he can at least be a solid starter and stay somewhat healthy. Everyone is a flier, let's see what happens. The A pitcher Riley Gowens has some nice scouting reports and could be interesting in a year or two.

  11. Washed is crazy...he struggled in his 2023 return to Atlanta, but still did better than basically any pitching prospect we have in AAA, while down in Richmond. One bad 2023 campaign (32 innings mind you), doesn't erase what he accomplished in his only full season in the bigs. Yes, it was before back to back Achilles injuries, I get it. But no way I'd write Soroka off, at 25.

  12. Why is everyone trashing Nicky's offense? He tied TA in homeruns this past year.

  13. There is no money savings…Bummer was at 5.5 in 2024 and minimum 2.5 to buyout….so 8 mil. Soroka and Lopez alone, are at that figure for 2024. That being said, I’d rather have any of the 5 dudes they just got, over the lack of enjoyment gained by watching Aaron Bummer pitch.

  14. Holy f*** I did not expect the Sox to get that for Bummer. But who was it here who said Bummer had 0 value across the league?

  15. Dumping Eloy at his lowest value would normally seem unwise, but I honestly don’t even care at this point. Good riddance.

  16. I can 100 percent say without any hesitation that Nick is a tremendous person. Comes from a great family. He was great to deal with and cover from all the way back to Naperville Central (2011-13) and the times I've spoken with him since the Royals drafted him in 2016.

  17. Don't talk sense around here...... We have so much hate for this team/organization that we can't understand we have a super star on our hands that we should be building around

  18. PCA is never going to hit at the MLB level. No thanks.

  19. Why would you want that? Most of this board hates Moncada abd would love to see Kopech gone as well. When you have a guy like Robert, you keep him until it makes no sense not. You can't get a guy with his talent with 4 years of control at his pay rate.
    3 points
  20. The problem is, that package doesn't exist for most teams. Robert has to return at least 3 top 100 prospects plus 2 or 3, with one of them top 5, and the 2nd a top 20.
    3 points
  21. It just doesn’t make sense to trade him at his age, talent level, and years left. Hopefully he stays healthy now.
    3 points
  22. Screw it. Trade Robert if a good enough package comes through.

  23. bummer might be the best launch into the sun so far. he had a way of crushing my soul like no one else.

  24. Obviously the Sox signed Nicky to lure Benetti back with the friends and family plan again.

  25. But instead of "this guy's a Bummer!" people now get to say "he sure does suck-roka!" Think of the creativity! (I'm probably just foolishly grateful to have any warm body because my soul is battered and bruised by Jerry)

  26. The Braves move on when things go wrong. They don’t double down

  27. Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. 2017: Jake Burger #1, traded for nothing. Gavin sheets #2, possibly DFA'd this week 2018: Madrigal #1, traded a piece that actively set us backward. Steele Walker #2, fart noise 2019: Vaughn #1, plenty of people calling to trade him. Matthew Thompson #2, going nowhere fast 2020: Crochet #1, huge ??. Kelley #2, going nowhere. I'll take the Braves' draft failings with their perennial World Series aspirations over our draft failings and *gestures at steaming pile of s%*#*

  28. That's a hatchet job by von showen. The two facts are unrelated and he has to know how it will be read by putting them next to each other. The biggest of Bennetti supporters would admit he has an unusual (not normal) personality. The truth of the story is right there very early. He left for more money and greater flexibility than the sox offered. That truth just wasn't sufficiently sensational.

  29. The trash of a team like the Braves is better than our trash. I’ll take it.
    3 points
  30. I get this, but aaron bummer sucks. I'll take 4 guys who likely suck for 1 because the math is in my favor on maybe one not sucking.
    3 points
  31. I’m surprised how positive people are on this trade. This is a bunch of trash with limited upside. I like the single A guy I guess. Reminds me of acquiring 4 Ryan cordells

  32. This is a solid haul. Few lottery tickets and a number of guys that will at least be members of the 26 man roster at some point for a RP that has straight up been bad. I also suspect the Braves will get the most out of Bummer because that’s what good organizations do, but it wasn’t going to happen here

  33. To be fair, there is no one not named Luis Robert who should be salvaged on this roster, anyways. No point in paying for FA gambles, when this team is nowhere close to being competitive. I like moves like this.

  34. Clearing more $$$ to offer Shohei a solid deferred package.

  35. Soroka's a good gamble. But also lmao Nicky Lopez.

  36. I also feel like this is the type of trade that ends with Bummer winning a Cy Young somehow. (Gotta cover all bases for the future "I told you so" threads)

  37. Soroka is intriguing. Supposed to be a good hockey player. This is the type of roster construction i honestly was hoping for. Take some flyers out on guys with previously high upside and fill up your minor league pipeline while jettisoning some "known" pieces that are essentially worthless to a team like the 2024 Sox. On the surface, i like this trade. Let's see how they Sox it up.

  38. Man, f*** the new rule about not being able to get above the #10 pick.

  39. This is called addition by subtraction. Bummer usually lived up to his name. Good riddance.

  40. They still will go after FA starters. They have 4 holes likely once Cease is dealt.
    2 points
  41. Per Pipeline: They have him at 60 Fielding/55 Arm.
    2 points
  42. Lopez has been worthless with the bat but his defense and base running have made him a 1 WAR player each of the past 2 seasons. That's something at least. He can't be any worse than TA or the awful 2B the Sox have trotted our there the past 2 years.

  43. It was more the KC connection. Also, Jason knew what he was doing and it was obvious haha

  44. This is a hell of a trade on paper. Pretty incredible they got 5 players for Bummer, at least 3 of them who could provide some value. Guess we shall see with Soroka though. Shuster seems like the true headliner; imagine he slots into the rotation right away.
