  1. My anger at Grifol is misplaced? I can’t even begin to comprehend what those words even mean. You seem to think because JR sucks as owner and reflects a larger problem that we can’t be critical of the manager. I’m sorry, but I will critique all elements of the organization that warrant criticism. And Pedro is an absolute joke who will only contribute negatively to the organization. Not sure what your endgame is here if I’m being fully honest.

  2. Sox pull ahead thanks to the young guys (and Moose). Shewmake triple, Fletcher groundout, Moose bloop RBI single, tie game 2-2. Montgomery single, Burdick K, Jacob Burke RBI single, Sox lead 3-2. Ramos worked a walk to load the bases, but a Phillips groundout ends the inning. Leasure in to pitch.

  3. Bunting is garbage, especially early in a game. Also, Pedro wanting Yoan to bunt more to “earn” the #2 spot in the lineup is ludicrous.

  5. You score runs with homeruns and doubles. Not singles and bunts. This isn't 1973 and you play at G-Rate, not the Astrodome.

  6. Jacob Burke made an impressive catch to rob a hit for the first out. Pop out to 1B for the second out. Joey Bart hit a single to right, but Leasure got a K looking on a nice slider to end the inning. Sounds like he was sitting around 96-97, and maybe playing with the pitch mix a bit.

  7. He literally said he wouldn’t sacrifice a single win for the development of a young player. He’s legit a stupid f*** and the damage he could do with his incompetence is immense.

  8. Kevin Pillar led off the second with a line shot over Chapman, which trickled down the line for a double. Martin Maldonado flared a single into shallow right center. Pillar returned to 2B not knowing if Yaz would make a catch. Nicky Lopez bunted Pillar and Maldonado over to second and third, giving Pedro, Ozzie Guillen and Chuck Garfein a simultaneous chubby. Fletcher foul tipped strike three into Bart’s glove, and Moncada ended the inning with a strikeout looking. Perhaps after Jerry dies we will have a manager who doesn’t instruct players to make outs on purpose, and broadcasters who don’t worship Ozzie Small Balls.

  9. Because having an incompetent manager isn’t great for the development of young players.

  10. I think it’s safe to say that Jerry won’t be the one giving out any more competitive offers for the White Sox. It will be the next majority owner. Jerry is still probably sick to his stomach that the Sox paid Andrew Benintendi $75 million. The dude hates spending big $$ and will never match the going rate for premium A level free agents. And since the last 2 starting pitchers he gave above average contracts to ended up failing (Danks and Keuchel), Jerry won’t ever spend big $$ on starting pitching again. I’m still shocked they offered Zack Wheeler a larger contract than Philly. Jerry must of had his favorite glass of red wine that day. He also was probably thrilled that Wheeler declined. Just like he was also thrilled when Machado declined that ridiculous incentivized loaded contract. Modern baseball economics completely surpassed Jerry’s expectations and ways of handling an organization. It’s time for a new ownership group.

  13. Given this team has no hope of competing, it’s important to focus on other key priorities for the year. From my perspective, here are the top 10 goals for the 2024 season: Get a Fucking Haul for Cease - This one is straight forward, but the moment we decided to hold Dylan into the season was the moment we decided to go all-in on getting a godfather package. Any Cease trade needs two legit high-end prospects (plus other things) and one who can help really soon. Make it fucking hurt. Develop Fletcher into a Platoon OF - This team is lacking young positional pieces and that means turning Fletcher into a useful major league OF is a must. And being a solid 4th OF is not a good enough outcome…we need to see this kid lock down a strong-side platoon role in RF with plus defense and a 110+ wRC+ against RHP. Turn Kopech into a Legit #3 SP - I have 100% given up hope of Kopech ever turning into a TOR starter, but I still think he’s far too talented to flop around at the back of a rotation. It’s time for Bannister & Katz to unlock some of Micheal’s potential and turn him into a still somewhat erratic, but mostly productive mid rotation starter. Began Building up Crochet as SP - The key word here is “building”, because no way is this guy going to be ready to provide any meaningful innings this year. As such, send him to Charlotte for a few months and let him move at a more gradual pace. This also allows us to claw back a year of control and retain him through 2027. Fully Assess Fedde & Soroka - This one is a bit tricky, but we need to quickly assess what we have in these guys and determine whether they can be part of the future or not (assuming results are there). With Soroka in particular, if there is no path to an extension, he must be moved at the deadline. We have a bit more flexibility with Fedde, but have to carefully weight go-forward value vs. potential prospect return. Keep Yoan & Eloy Healthy - This one is simple, but we need these guys to show-out this year so we can possibly trade them for something of value and that requires them to be healthy. I’m somewhat optimistic that Yoan will suddenly find the will to fight through pain given he’s effectively in a contract year. Eloy is a wild card, but I do believe he can still be a dynamic hitter if healthy and return a legit prospect. Develop Some Future Bullpen Pieces - The Sox will almost certainly start the year with a bunch of veterans in the major league pen, but once guys like Leasure, Berroa, & Speas are ready they should be called up and given ample opportunity to prove themselves this year. Same applies to Horn if he doesn’t make the OD roster. Give 30+ Starts to Minor League SPs - The OD rotation appears packed with vets, but we need to be prepared to allocate starts to youth once ready. Flexin should be on the chopping block if one of Nastrini, Eder, or Cannon prove ready earlier in the year. But post July, we must commit a good chunk of starts to those kids or others who prove they are ready for a shot to help get some development out of the way. Make Vaughn Prove Himself - It’s officially put up or shut up time for Andrew and if he doesn’t take a massive leap this year then I’m afraid it will be time to move on. The glove and base-running will never be there, which means the kid needs to put up a 120+ wRC+ to be useful. Play him everyday and see which version shows up. Protect Luis Robert - I know it will be easy for Grifol to slot Robert into the lineup everyday, but the dude is the single most valuable asset in the organization and should be managed with some caution (especially in a lost season). Not suggesting we completely baby him, but give him an off-day every couple of weeks and rest him whenever banged up. Another healthy season will greatly enhance his value.

  15. This organization just cannot get out of its own way. Until JR dies it will continue to be this way until the new owner guts everyone in the organization and brings in someone with a fresh perspective

  16. They need this to happen - but I think Cousins is gone unless he signs before league year starts - becomes way harder for Vikings I think cause they will have some dead cap space from his current deal or something weird.

  17. I like this list. They have safety covered now - I expect dline will be their splash signing and I think they will go big here. I expect a vet wr and do think they may buy a rb like Jacobs or Saquon (st deal) and than could see them going after a te and maybe another olineman.

  18. Grifol is trying to reach Jim Boylen legendary status in just over one season. Pedro has and will likely continue to be stuck with the worst rosters in MLB. That said, only Bevington and La Russa 2.0 are in the running with Pedro in terms of worst Sox managers since I started watching in 1975.

  20. WSox needed a power hitting RF I argued that the WSox should have outbid the Cubs by whatever was reasonably necessary to get Cody Bellinger. OK, I know that would have been a costly FA signing outside of the WSox typical framework, but it had the potential for being a real game changer. Now the Cubs feel invigorated by signing Bellinger and the WSox are left with the perennial hole in RF. Just great..Then there was Hahn and KW letting Burger go. You cannot continue to make foolish trades and fail to sign key FA when they are available. And you cannot make questionable Draft picks that end up as average or below major league talent.

  27. You can argue that JR's "policy" is right or wrong, but the reality is the other teams in MLB ARE willing to do it, they take the risk and a lot of times it does work out where said pitcher helps get them to the post season for a few years. What's the alternative then especially given JR's publicly stated "policy" against paying for "potential?" (As evidenced by how productive the Sox minor league system has been) If there is a third option between this rock and a hard place I'd like to hear it. You want to win? Then you have to take risks but remember this is the guy who said this: "Sports is a business of failure but the fact that you finish second or third or fourth it doesn’t mean you had a bad year." At this point in time I'd be thrilled if the Sox could even come close to finishing second with a decent record but that's not happening.

  32. Sox lose 5-4 on a walk off single with 2 outs. Shaw walked a batter then 2 outs a steal of 2nd and the single. Sox officially 3 for 21 with RISP could have won easily with any clutch or situational hitting w sac flys instead of GO to corner infielders or the pitcher and K's.

  33. Of course. Shaw with the hanging breaking ball to allow Tom Murphy to walk it off. Did get it up to 96 at age 36. 4-12 record

  34. Why are people trying to tie Mac Jones to Fields? Jones started out well but has regressed heavily to the point where he got benched for Bailey Zappe on a 4 win Patriots team. Fields is a better thrower and runner than Jones and has actually shown improvement year to year in almost every advanced metric, even if he did not take the leap people were expecting last year. They are not and should not be in the same neighborhood of value.

  35. I'd have to see the play but the official scorer could have ruled it a hit is what I'm saying. If there were 2 outs a fielder will usually make the play at 1st on a high chopper since the runner going to 2nd is running on contact after he gets a good secondary lead. Maybe it was a boneheaded play trying to get Moncada at 2nd and he should have gone to 1st for an easy out. Then I understand the FC ruling. If the fielder thought the only play was at 2nd on a ball deep in the hole and didn't think he could throw the guy out at 1st so he tried to get the runner at 2nd that would be a hit. So I'm guessing the fielder made a bonehead play in the official scorers opinion. It's not automatically a FC if the official scorer thinks both runners would've been safe . Then he would have to rule it a base hit.

  36. A FS that isn't allergic to tackling.. . that's nice.

  37. The fielder's choice rule states that if a fielder fields a fair ball, and tries to get the runner out instead of the batter, the batter being safe at first base is a fielder's choice. There's no assumption that the fielder would have thrown out the batter, just that the fielder chose to not make a play on the batter. The batter winding up on 1st base isn't scored as a hit.

  38. The good news: Speas got three consecutive flyouts. The bad news: He walked the bases loaded first, so the first two scored runs. Flexen finished with 3IP, 0ER, 3H, 2BB, 2K.

  39. Figued that but it would be strange to rule that a FC and not a hit. Rarely do official scores assume he wouldve have got the out at 1st. I thought there were 2 out when that happened after the Vaughn K. So Moncada beat the throw and Jime ex also beat the throw to 1st if there was one. I didn't watch the video u provided.

  40. 2nd and 3rd 1 out is a good situation. I don't know what you're expecting from this weak hitting team. They aren't going to have a lot of big innings. They're going to have to win low scoring games and squandering opportunities with a bunch of runners in scoring position is going to happen a lot with this team as u have seen in the other 2 innings they didn't bunt.

  44. If Soroka returns to form, why would he agree to any sort of extension with the Sox of all teams? Looking at what some truly s%*# pitchers got paid this offseason, he'd be wise to test the market with 29 other teams that will absolutely beat whatever the Sox offer him. I worry we may never see the Sox sign any pitcher of significance again with the deals given out this offseason.
