Does it give you pause that after the news broke you sprinted here to try and get your rocks off?9 points

God damn it, I love Cease, but now I have to root against him simply because Caulfield is so damn obnoxious.8 points

Enjoy the gigantic dump that is Baltimore! It's probably even dumpier without Omar and Daniels.7 points

I just don’t get how you value someone like Thorpe this much, but give up on Mena just to try and fill a bad roster.7 points

I will be honest, I am surprised another team didn't beat this. I probably would have went into the season with Cease vs this.7 points

Bold statement I know, but chances are the Sox are projecting some of the players involved differently than we are.6 points

I didn’t care whether we gave him away. Just didn’t want him pitching for the dildos in Baltimore. And let that be a lesson to all of you on the effect an obnoxiously-arrogant poster can have on one.6 points

I voted A. From the Cease side of things, he’s a good SP but is he Cy Young contender consistently good? Maybe, he’ll need to prove that this year. There’s as much risk that he’s more 2023 Cease than 2022. I would expect him to have a good year for the Padres as I think 2023 was more of a the team was the problem situation more than Cease just not being as good as we saw in 22. From the White Sox side, you get 3 legit prospects and a potential flip candidate. The three legit prospects to me is a big deal. The reality is we were never getting those top 10-15 guys that were fantasized about around here. What we did get is a top 100 prospect plus two more guys who have been in and around the top 100 within the last year. Thorpe is a nice prospect, he has an outstanding changeup and great control. And he’s close to being ready. Iriarte is an electric arm with a high ceiling. Zavala is a toolsy OFer with a high ceiling. These guys aren’t lotto tickets they are legit prospects. This is a major boost to a system that’s lacking high ceiling talents and especially starting pitchers. For a team that’s not going to spend big in free agency this to me is an ideal trade to try and have this team headed in the right direction in the next few years. I much prefer this type of deal over one super prospect and then some fillers. This seems like the type of trade everyone is going to be happy about once they cool off from expecting way more than they should have and get to see some of these kids perform.5 points

You would think after years of watching top prospect Kopech walk 5 batters per 9 innings, acquiring a top prospect that actually throws strikes and still gets a bunch of whiffs would be a positive thing. But nah, soxtalk says give me the guy that throws 100 but has no idea where the ball is going lol5 points

I appreciate the “Incomplete/Other” option for dorks like me who can’t summon up the energy to have a strong opinion on players I know next to nothing about.5 points

Please. Chicago is a world class city with problems. Baltimore is simply a city with problems. They aren't in the same stratosphere.5 points

This is a solid return imo. People get way too hung up on prospect rankings.5 points

Iriarte made a few relief appearances right after he was promoted last year and finished the season how he began, as a starter. I suspect the relief appearances were more about load management than anything else.5 points
-
And you also like a 26 year old infielder over a 19 year old lefty CF with multiple tools? And for THIS team in its current state? Wow…5 points

Zavala being part of it makes it a big win for the Sox to me. I don't know if it's "steep" but Sox for sure got enough for him.5 points

Rosenthal's job is literally to write about baseball rumors in the offseason. Of course his scoops are going to occasionally be wrong. Morosi is kind of a dope, so he deserves some flack from baseball fans, but like - these guys are paid to be "insiders". This is quite different from posters who come in here/or on twitter with the eyeballs, etc. acting like they have something, never share much of consequence, and then will claim they had it early when the deal does eventually go down. Now that stuff is lame. Either share what you got, or keep the innuendos to yourself - that I 100% agree with you on.5 points
-
Bullshit. He's been bitching about them the entire offseason not just Jon Morosi. I'm sorry but I don't need for him to be telling us what to read and how to take it. We don't require his assistance. Maybe I give people too much credit on here lately but it seems like we've learned not to give the food accounts or random accounts alot of credibility.5 points

The Yankees made an offer but it didn't include any of their high impact players. For some reason they think they can acquire Cease with a collection of their low tier guys.5 points

I’d prefer a cold water tweet than that garbage Tex proposal in Rosenthal’s article. Duran, Porter and Lieter is a tuuuurrrribbblllleee5 points

Lost in the Cease drama tonight was Nastrini pitching 3 scoreless with 7 Ks. Not bad.5 points

I think Kjerstad , Norby and Beavers would have been received better by the fan base. We like hitters more than pitchers. Of course I really like Beavers. Think his stock is rising. Kjerstad and Beavers both could be the LH savages.4 points

If he's not a CF defensively then this is a much weaker deal because a dozen minor league HR but a decent A-ball OBP is a Benintendi-type corner outfielder, unless he grows into more power with age?4 points
-
Thorpe led minor league starters in swinging strike rate last season so I think I'll wait to see somebody actually hit him before I freak out about poorly sourced reports on his current velocity.4 points
-
AJ saw Thorpe pitch yesterday and he was only hitting 88 on radar gun, asked Ken Rosenthal how is he a top 100 guy only throwing 88? Ken had no answer.4 points
-
People are legit sleeping on Thorpe. We’re talking about a SP with 70 grade command. Steamer & ZiPS both project him as a 2 win pitcher this year. I’d normally say he’s more of a middle of the rotation profile, but with Bannister just never know where he can rise him.4 points

I like the deal plenty. Thorpe is just about a top 50 prospect, Zavala has a great profile, and I like what I'm reading about Iciarte. I could see him making a big jump. This is a pretty significant injection into the farm system. Let's see what we can do with them.4 points

I hope the Sox get close with SD or the Yankees and Getz goes back to the Rangers with a "for Langford he's yours" last chance Hail Mary. Other than that, yuck on a TEX package.4 points
