  1. I bet Pillar would have some interesting things to say about the Sox

  3. Hey, stop using Kopech in the 8th. He looks absolutely awful once again.

  4. What does Rafael Ortega accomplish?

  5. He's not great, but at least Pillar can actually play centerfield. The Sox have now assembled the worst defensive outfield I can remember for this team, and that's saying something. Eloy, Pham, Grossman, Benintendi, and Pham are all DHs. Fletcher is way better in right. So much for prioritizing defense.

  7. Holy f***, are you actually Chris Getz? This is literally one of the most insane posts I have seen on this board in my 20+ years posting here.

  8. I get tired of you carrying water for this stupidity, but here we both are.

  9. A few more notes: Korey Lee would be in AAA if Stassi hadn't gotten hurt Nastrini, Quero, Bush, Leasure, Batista, Carela and Lee are Rick Hahn's parting gift, so thanks Hahn! Eder we give to KW. Chris Getz to this point has shown he has no fucking clue what he's doing, let alone on an accelerated timeline like JR promised. He's making panic move after panic move in a lost year and they are compounding, leading to more panic moves. At this point, I want to see Sheets in CF for the lols.

  10. Don’t trade one of your best pitching prospects for a 26 year old, light hitting platoon outfielder
    5 points
  11. Anything other than make them worse? Like are you serious? Anything other than DFA prospects in their mid 20s to bring up below average hitters in their 30s? Anything other than assemble a lineup that is so historically bad offensively that they are forced to play the DH in the outfield 25 games into the season? Anything other than go into opening day with a 4 man starting rotation headlined by a reliever that has never pitched more than 76 innings in a season? Anything other than retain the worst manager in MLB after a 100 loss season? Anything other than trade a Mena for a guy that you send down before May? You mean things like that? Stop being obtuse. It’s currently on pace to be the WORST TEAM EVER ASSEMBLED IN MLB HISTORY!

  12. Dude, you are forgetting, he possesses the absolute and unquestionable most important aspect to being a White Sox employee…he will say yes to Jerry regardless of the circumstances. That’s the qualification.

  13. Man is out here running a professional MLB organization, like he is playing MLB the Show at 2 AM. You made the move for a 26 year old OFer, gave up on a 21 year old pitcher. You are 3-22, this season is over. Play the kid you traded for all season, and see at the end of the year, if you have anything. How can ANYONE be ok with the clownshow in charge?

  14. Ortega was hitting .241 in Charlotte. Just keep Pillar dear lord, if only for his defense. The OF defense is going to be all-time bad. Getz is flailing like a dying fish.

  19. I'm not trying to prove anything. I'm giving my opinion. That's the only point of a sports message board. None of our opinions actually matter and none of our opinions are valued by anybody who does matter.

  20. So the 24 year old in A ball with a 4.70 ERA is doing well, but the 21 year old in AAA with a 3.75 ERA is a “work in progress”? You Getz apologists are trying way too hard.
    4 points
  21. Sox went for quantity over quality. Other teams were absolutely interested in him, but Getz used it as a trade to fill roster spots at the big league level.
    4 points
  22. Let pieces of the future play, along with some vets, rather than a team full of 30+ scrubs that have no future with the org. Its stupid. And that is coming from one of the more positive posters around here.

  23. Like seriously, how is there not more concern about how bad Getz seems to be at this job?
    4 points
  24. I know they won’t but a fucking beat reporter needs to press Getz on this. I want to hear him even try to make this make sense. 2024 Charlotte stats: Colas, 25 years old, .246 BA Deloach, 25 years old, .268 BA Ortega, 32 years old, .241 BA Last year for Fletcher at AAA: 25 years old, .291 BA It’s not like Ortega is some defensive stud. This legit makes zero sense. It’s a lost season and the former director of player development, now GM, is calling up a bunch of MLB journeyman in their 30s trying to hang on for one last chance in the show instead of young guys to get a team to 55 wins instead of 50.
    4 points
  25. What a great trade that was. Fletcher has been so bad he is being replaced by a 32 year old journeyman. Getz is the worst GM of all time.

  26. This is the most alarming thing about Getz & Pedro IMO. Especially Getz, he apparently doesn’t understand that when you assemble a roster with a bunch of try-hards…the minute it starts to go south, they start pressing, and become even worse. They immediately turn from fringe MLB players to guys that don’t belong on a AAA roster. Pedro’s response seems to be having them work harder in the cage, in the pen, on the field, etc. That’s what I thought was funny when he initially said he wasn’t going to watch the eclipse. Bro, you manage a last place team, you can take 5 minutes to go watch an exceptionally rare occurrence. He should have these dudes in the club popping bottles and going to Top Golf, then tell them to fucking hit a home run every at bat. At least then they’d loosen the f*** up and maybe be able to hit .200. Thats why I can be convinced that Ozzie could take over. At least then, it would borderline be a reality show and mildly entertaining.

  27. That headline is clickbait. If you watch the full 3 minutes he's actually about as positive as can be about it, surprisingly. I thought he'd go scorched earth.

  32. The Super Bowl era started 57 years ago. The Bears are a historically bad franchise. If you want to count the era where the Bears were beating up on the Dayton Triangles, Rochester Jeffersons and Rock Island Independents, go for it. I doubt anyone else is going to find it relevant.

  33. I get that most of these are inconsequential, but the scary thing to me is how nearly every move he’s made fizzled out incredibly quick. His whole “defense will help pitching” plan has been a complete debacle. He came into the season with zero depth as well. And yes, there’s absolutely a chance that Mena never adds velocity and also fizzles out, but I think we all know that the Sox were never going to get the most out of his arm. That should concern all of us.
    3 points
  34. I just don’t understand what they saw in Fletcher. Limited power, limited speed, can’t hit lefties at all….is this really the corner outfielder you want to give playing time for the next 3-4 years? If they thought Mena was never going to throw hard enough, that’s fine to trade him, but it sure seemed like they put too much value on someone they could play right away. Anyone with a brain knew this team wasn’t contending this year.

  35. He turned a bad farm system into a top 10 system while trading 1 real asset - Cease. I don't think he's done a good job. I also realize he has very little to work with.
    3 points
  36. Step 1 - NOT try to get a bunch of 35+ marginal at best MLB players, more time towards their MLB pension?
    3 points
  37. And promised he could build a competitive team with low salaried, defensive-minded players
    3 points
  38. The thing is, I can no longer tell if this is Getz trying to rebuild, win, or try to just not be the worst team of all time. But the thing is, he's failing at all three.

  39. Appletv makes this easier to not watch. So cheers to that.
    3 points
  40. Garbage. Just let Fletcher play see if he improves. Or Colas. This is more dumb. Getz has spent every bit of leeway I was willing to give. He's worse than I expected which is crazy.
    3 points
  41. Chris Getz's idea of a rebuild is to get older at every step of the way. Truly big brain.

  42. Please collect all the washed up and never were 30+ year old outfielders. Forget Birmingham being the future of the Sox. I bet they could beat the mlb team is a 7 game series now.

  43. Also Ortega for Fletcher is absolutely a full pledged panic move.,

  44. This is so ridiculous, it's funny.

  45. I don’t see an issue with anything he said here. Essentially he said the players are working hard but talent matters. Especially when he mentions that the Braves were different because they “knew they were better.” He basically says the Sox are a roster assembled of a bunch of try-hards and that s%*# doesn’t work in professional sports. Especially baseball. In basketball, if you maximize effort, with a coach like Thibs and sell out defensively, you can at least be relatively successful. In football, a smart coach can get pretty far with subpar talent with good scheming and scouting. In hockey you can out condition your opponents and hit the s%*# out of them, you can do pretty well. In soccer, when you are over-matched severely you go into a low block and bunker. In baseball…if a guy can’t hit a breaking ball, he can’t hit a breaking ball. I don’t care what you do, Gavin Sheets or Eloy will never be serviceable outfielders. The pitchers just don’t have an MLB level of velocity and/or “stuff.” Baseball is much more predicated on natural talent. Good players are going to win at a higher rate over mediocre players and coaching than in the other sports. The current Sox players and coaches aren’t even close to mediocre and this is the result.

  46. Lol so you let go of the good defensive player and keep groosman lol

  47. f*** this guy. What exactly did he think was going to happen? Nobody forced him to sign with Chicago. He'll be lucky to get 50 PA the rest of his career in the MLB. f*** off, only Sox fans can trash the franchise, this guy is just another bum we wasted time, money and a 40 man spot on.
    3 points
  48. I don't disagree on the overall losing culture of Chicago teams, but those 50s/60s Sox teams were actually really good. They just had the misfortune (like everyone else in the league) of playing at the same time as the NY Yankees of the 50s and 60s, when they were at their most dominant.
    3 points
  49. They went to the World Series in 1959. It was much harder to get to the postseason in the 50s and 60s. There were no playoffs back then, just the regular season decided the AL and NL champs. Most of those 50s/60s teams would have made the playoffs under the current system.
