  1. It really amazes me how you continue to hold water for a guy who put together a 17-52 team. A team 9 games worse than any other team in the AL. At least you are off of the lockdown bullpen you told us he built earlier.

  4. I was reading through the Crochet is being converted to a starter thread that got bumped recently and realized that on Jan. 10, 2024 I was telling everyone that this year is going to suck. News flash right ? Almost everyone knew that but very few could've predicted just how bad. I'm sure there's a prediction poll and someone may have predicted 110+ losses but it sure wasn't me. But what I also was saying back then was this is a rebuild and the goal was not to compete but to trade as many of the short term contracts as possible and bring more talent into the organization. Turn one man's trash into another man's treasure. That's a tough gig and one likely to fail .Trash usually remains trash. But if you've been paying attention things are not as bleak as they seem if you pause long enough from trashing the 2024 team there some very positive developments. The only reason why I never was rooting for worst record ever was because an unexpected amount of wins would mean some of the dumpster dives and some of the holdovers from previous seasons would be doing well. I just watched 2 of our pitching prospects and Eric Fedde pitch their asses off on the road with Crochet going today. The pessimist in me says those 2 games could be the best starts of Cannon 's and Thorpe's careers for all we know and Fedde could implode and Crochet arm blow up all before the trade deadline but for right now things are looking up. Crochet has been way better than anyone could've predicted. Fedde too. If both get traded those 2 alone could bring it multiple high upside bats. Throw in if they trade Robert, Jr. and that's more high end talent. Speaking of talent and luck. Holy f*** the Sox have got a lot of pitchers in the minors doing really well. Thorpe gets promoted and they replace him with freaking Albert Schweitzer and he proceeds to pitch 7 outstanding innings in his very 1st AA start after rising from the dead. If you're a reader of the minor league threads you may have seen a tweet about how the Sox have revamped things and making the pitching development more individualized and it seems to be working. I don't know if Bannister or Getz or if it was some big pow wow of minds that came to this conclusion but so far so good. Plus a lot of those arms are staying very healthy. Crochet's body is bigger and stronger and he looks incredibly strong still. We haven't seen any signs of fatigue yet. He's really taken to a starting pitchers routine extremely well. Cannon and Thorpe look like pitchers who actually know how to attack hitters. Thorpe knows his stuff and plan of attack against RH and LH hitting so well he was shaking off Maldonado's famous fingers. So I am hoping that the glimmer of light I see at the end of the tunnel is actually a ray of hope and not another train barreling in our direction to obliterate the the run of good fortune and progress we have seen. After all Jerry Reinsdorf is still the guy in charge.

  5. June 13, 1957 - The Sox and Yankees hooked up in perhaps the greatest ‘base-brawl’ in history. In the first inning at Comiskey Park, New York’s Art Ditmar threw a pitch at the head of the Sox Larry Doby. As the pitch rolled to the wall, Ditmar ran to cover home. Doby warned Ditmar about the pitch, and then threw a left hook which dropped him. The fight appeared to have racial overtones and lasted a full 30 minutes. Chicago native and future Sox player Bill "Moose" Skowron jumped on Doby which brought Walt Dropo into the fray. Dropo was 6-5, 220 pounds, and a monster for his time. At various times, “Whitey” Ford, Casey Stengel, "Jungle" Jim Rivera and Enos "Country" Slaughter were in the middle of it. Slaughter’s jersey and undershirt were ripped to pieces and his hat was backwards in one of the most famous photographs of the 1950's. After things settled down Billy Martin rushed into things and started in on Doby. Five players were ejected and fined for the melee. New York won the game 4-3.

  8. Yeah, the went out and paid top market for Ivan Rodriguez at the bottom of that mess. Then they went out and paid Magglio Ordonez a contract as big as any the Sox have ever given a player, in 2005 The some dude named Justin Verlander showed up. Does anyone see one of those three things happening in our rebuild, let alone all three?

  9. We had this conversation already. Dave Dombrowski and an owner willing to spend aren't walking through that door.

  10. In Context, given how bad the pitching at charlotte was last year, that we traded our best relievers, and the ones added appeared to flounder I'd say it would be hard to have a good bullpen. However, I'd say an actual good pitching coach should be able to pull the floor up beyond this point. If I were Getz, I'd have to say my scouts were a failure. Getting the marginal pieces like bullpen to perform should be where scouts make their money. But ours our bad. They are clearly struggling without someone like Haber helping them with analytics. But as a coach, no reason not to swap out katz based off of this. Well, there is one reason. There is some consistency in coaching between our Pitching coordinator/guy in Bannister and Katz. We've seen some pretty nice performances from players coming up from that system. As we wash away the stink, and the new pitchers come up, it may be worth it.

  11. "Lighting a fire" does nothing to make up for a lack of talent, nor restore the past talent of the aged and washed up. The notion that Ozzie even could "light a fire under some of these guys" is pretty laughable considering that he has not managed in nearly 15 years, and was a dumpster fire in his last gig. If this roster has tuned out Pedro, they sure aren't going to listen to another joke of a manager brought in mid-season, coming from a tv studio of all places.

  16. 6 months ago he looked like a sunk cost. The fact that his trade value is now rising to the level of Cease from 6 months ago is an incredible development for the organization and the rebuild effort.

  17. Not just the worst player in baseball... but the player having one of the worst seasons in the history of the game.

  18. There should be nobody on this team more infuriated than Korey Lee. He has had a very good season and is giving up playing to to the worst player in baseball.

  19. You can be both. Proactive things that have been great (caveat : so far) getting Fedde and making Crochet a starter.Bringing in Bannister. There are good things happening if people would stop focusing on the bad vs really bad 2024 team as if it was some kind of surprise. Too many people thinking all the roster churning is some big indictment of Getz . It just your normal rearrangement of minor pieces . Yes it sucks the guys who got hurt get hurt often because being healthy would've helped but they were untradeable before and they are still untradeable. You want to say something about little pieces doing better in other places and ignore how well some of the trade acquisitions on the pitching side are flourishing in our system right now that's your prerogative .

  20. Two weeks late, but I'm totally with you. I don't want anything to do with Cags. Could very well be Joey Gallo without the plus outfield defense, and the Sox simply aren't one of the orgs that can make him better.

  21. Getz is a clown. His evaluations of Fletcher and DeLoach give me no confidence he knows what makes a good hitter.

  23. McCarthy is into his first year of arbitration next season. Not really sure how he’s a great fit either given where the organization currently stands. And it’s not like he’s some type of stud now anyways.

  24. Mena was the better prospect, are you suggesting that it was a fair trade? cmon dude

  25. Yeah, I hate to tell you this, but they have them now, and we are setting all time worst records with them.

  26. The front end of that prediction means we got front end prospects who are older and basically ready for the majors. If the top talent is younger, then keep adding to those seasons. It also means that we hit on a high percentage of them, and they had very high ceilings that they got to, especially in the position player group, because those do not exist in our system as of today. It means we need a Chris Sale type package for those two guys AND they need to actually pan out this time. It means that Fedde has to draw at least one guy who turns into a good every day starter, and maybe more. Thankfully all of the people responsible for our former minor league development have been sent packing...

  33. I too thought they would win 68 games. It's in the prediction thread. But to be this bad, you have to be trying to be this bad. Except the White Sox.

  36. Yeah, I think PoppySox predicted 80 some-odd wins, and he was disappointed when I said 68. I took the others as goofing on it.

  37. Did you predict a 40 win season? If not, I don't think the "we all knew" applies. We knew it would be bad, but not historically bad. There is a difference.

  40. It’s kind of funny that we are so desperate for competence that we want to force Ozzie to answer to this bullshit every night instead of Pedro. Personally I think Ozzie should stay away from that role because nobody is gonna enjoy it, nobody is gonna learn from it, and it’s gonna be 3 straight embarrassing months that go on his record regardless of circumstance

  43. I couldn't give a s%*# about Grifol, but I will give him some credit in that this is the least talented team I've ever seen and they're at least somewhat competitive. A decent bullpen probably gives them 10 more wins. This season is far less painful than the last few, where we had a lot of talent on paper and they played like trash. I had zero expectations so I don't care if we win or lose.

  47. Do Getz or Reinsdorf even watch the games? Do the other white Sox owners (Jerry’s partners) even look to see who won? Does LaRussa think it’s still spring training. Make “The Sodfather” the manager. He probably know more about baseball than all of them combined.
