  1. I mean, in my opinion, it's more that your mindset doesn't always seem super compatible with healthy prospect watching? I started to respond to your "hot garbage" take yesterday, to point out how disproportionate of a reaction that is to a 23 year old having one bad start in his first stint in the majors after embarrassing AA hitters all season, or a 22 year old Iriarte having a rough patch in the midst of an otherwise fine year. I was going to cite, @WestEddy did, how Zavala has an insane OBP in June with 16 BB to 7K as a young-for-level teenager. I thought about pointing out how Cease has a 6.32 ERA in June, or how his last start (3.2IP, 7ER) was comparable to Thorpe's (3.1IP, 7ER) and worse than Iriarte's (6IP, 5ER) so even a SSS-based judgement wouldn't support a "hot garbage" grade. But as I was looking up the numbers, I felt like...what's the point? Your primary focus seems to be looking for the first sign of "concern", and then immediately extrapolating that into the worse case scenario and making sure everyone knows that you were the first to see through the smokescreen of industry evaluators/prospect rankings/fan optimism I guess? And a lot (most?) of it seems based on watching box scores rather than games or scouting reports, which simply doesn't tell you enough about an environment in which everyone is a work in progress and that progression isn't linear. Guys will have 0-10 stretches where they're doing everything right and smoking the ball, but finding gloves every time. Pitchers will be adjusting arsenals and sequencing, and get burned for a crooked number in the process. If you're ready to write off a guy every time that happens, you're in for a terrible time. The views on the vast majority of prospects should exist somewhere between "mildly concerned" and "cautiously optimistic" on a given day, so the ease and frequency at which your dial flips to judgements like "hot garbage" is automatically out of place. "Concern" is saying "Thorpe will need to be smart with sequencing to make sure his lower velo arsenal plays in the bigs" or "Wolkow needs to improve his K% before we can project what he might do at higher levels." It's not popping in here after you see Colson have an 0-4 day to ask how long until he falls off Top 100 lists.

  2. And that is just from his own players wanting to leave.

  3. A lot of people seem to think teams move off valuations based on 100 ABs. CF is the weakest offensively it's ever been - in MLB history. It's the weakest offensive position in baseball. Doubt many are too worried about Roberts 171 babip.

  4. Another day, another walk for Zavala whose OPS is now almost .700. That’s impressive for a guy with a BABIP in the low .200’s. I expect him to have a strong 2nd half.

  5. Wow, what a surprise that Lipman and and 2023 would disagree with greg775's optimism or any sort of optimistic outlook. I really am shocked. Of course they both want all the good players, or even anyone close, traded away so they can continue to be a total dump fest on the Sox this year. Pretty soon hibiscus will join them and we'll have all three of three of them trashing the Sox. Maybe we'll be lucky and one of them will go with the poop emoji again. I know I can't wait. But back on greg's post: All of a sudden, with this starting staff, I think .500 or close is very possible. That's kind of the point of my post yesterday about how I feel more confident about beating Houston now than that playoff team in 2021. (But I realize Houston is down now, too.) Now two huge ifs with that. 1) Key people can't get hurt, especially pitchers, and . . . We can NOT, not, not trade away of our good players, especially our excellent young pitchers; but really, Sox can't afford to trade anyone of value and expect to chase .500 the rest of the way, the talent on this team is too, too thin. I agree with what someone (was it greg) said yesterday: if we keep this starting pitching, get some decent relievers, and a couple bats; Sox can go .500 next year and try to win the division. Sorry big three complainers, I have to try to counterbalance your pessimism.

  6. Bad faith? You complain, daily, about most prospects. They're prospects. They will adjust to the league, then the league will adjust back. Pitchers will be instructed to work on a particular pitch, set-up or sequence, regardless of the results, just to learn. Bad months will ensue. We're all looking at the same games, the same dataset. To constantly express concern where there aren't really issues has a name. It's called concern trolling. It has been duly noted that you have concerns, and haven't bought in to any player in our system, and won't until they're enshrined in the HOF. You choose to remind us every day. You are casting judgement. You don't have the power to cast "final" judgement, so I have no idea what needle you're threading there.

  7. Narrator: Last time greg made this post, the Sox had a team record losing streak. Let's see what happens now.

  8. Surprised I got a little emotional last night reading about his life and such. Usually celeb death don't hit me, I've sadly had enough death close around me to last a lifetime so random celebs meh. But this one hit me a bit. RIP to a great human and athlete.

  10. So just to be clear, once a starting pitcher has one bad start, he has "gone off the rails" and turned into a bad prospect?

  11. I actually was refreshed by the answer - it was honest. JR said his nonsense but it’s clear Getz is bringing it down to the studs - Pedro will be gone by end of the year. I don’t think Getz is greatest in world but what he is doing fundamentally has made sense. No long term deals / seems very open to dealing almost anyone not on a full rookie timeline - made a couple high risk high reward moves, some worked but some didn’t - but none had long term risk.

  12. bummer we don't appear ready to play .490 baseball from here on out.

  13. Garrett didn’t have his best stuff tonight but still manages to pick up a quality start. That’s the sign of an ace.

  15. They’re the worst team in the league. They didn’t expect to be this bad but worst team in the league was 100% on the table from the start. They grabbed players to flip at the deadline. This isn’t tough to understand.

  16. The Cubs are trying to win. The White Sox aren’t. They also believe that Maldonado’s game calling and leadership has helped their young pitching. I don’t understand the fixation on Martin Maldonado. He just doesn’t matter that much.

  17. Mays passing was a sad day for Major League baseball. He was a trailblazer in so many ways and a sports hero to many. That basket catch in the 1954 World Series announced by the great Jack Brickhouse will forever be part of baseball lore. It was a privilege for those of us that got to see him play.

  24. Sox outlook is suddenly much sunnier than the 14 game losing streak. Is this team capable of .500 the rest of the way with the new starting staff? Bullpen still blows and bats could go either way on a given night. It's the heat of summer now however and bats will be at their highest possible level (for the roster) the rest of the steamy summer season. Sox go .490 the rest of the way?

  25. I get the feeling that there are plenty of teams out there who think getting Robert of out a toxic situation might just be the medicine he needs.

  28. Not many great players, hall of famers left from the 60's & 70's now. Koufax, Palmer, John, Kaat, Jenkins, Williams, Rose, Yaz come to mind.

  29. I think everyone is trying to say this area is a different vibe. People are looking for positives and hope, along with more deep discussions, not just dwelling on failures and bad days. People aren't looking for the negatives here.

  30. Robert really going to fetch a quality return right now when he's striking out 40% of the time, not doing well in defensive metrics and coming off of a major injury, where he has injured the same area multiple times? I don't think Robert is getting traded this year unless he turns things around, and even then not until the offseason. I don't think the offers will be there at the TDL. More likely Robert gets moved next summer if healthy and performing well. Don't think Crochet gets moved until the offseason at the earliest as well.

  31. It's also about more than SSS. Looking for reasons to jump off of bridges with one bad start is overreaction theater

  32. To be fair, Getz never said any of that. That was all Jerry. I think it’s smart that Getz didn’t put a timeline on the team, it’s too early to do so. Why give someone rope to hang you with if you don’t have to.

  33. Thorpe had one bad start. One. He also had one were he was very good. He also just skipped AAA. Patience.

  35. I’ve always said that if I had to pick one player in the history of the game to start an MLB team it would have to be Willie, he was truly a 5 tool player.

  36. My best friend's dad knew Jack Brickhouse and he would get free tickets and take us to Cub games. My buddy was on the field before the game and got his photo taken with Fergie Jenkins, Billy Williams and Ron Santo. His dad had a steady gig for years as a musician and worked nights. He would take me along and we went to tons of games. Willie Mays was my buddies dad favorite. My buddy had a signed baseball with Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Fergie Jenkins, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, Glenn Beckert. We used the ball to play baseball , the ball got beat up pretty good.

  37. No, the Cease trade continues to look great. YOU look like hot garbage. I think the harsh takes are really uncool on the FutureSox side. This place seems to be about watching prospects, not ridiculing them. There are plenty of trolls who will embrace your hatred on the other side.

  38. for some reason, my cell phone has started sending me notifications for Sox players' terrible batting lines. I didn't ask it to do this. I'm not interested and it's an unprovoked spoiler. uncalled for, iphone. anyway, so I fast-forwarded through the offense just to watch Cannon. what a game, that kid can play! I'm left wondering if the former farm director gets any credit for a 101st overall pick turning into a genuinely good MLB starter at age 23. I personally don't think so, but people give Getz s%*# when the minor leaguers suck so maybe some reciprocal credit is given too.

  39. Sox win again. With just two hits. Look, I heard on the broadcast the Sox have a ton of young pitching. With Cannon, Crochet, Thorpe and some of the AA guys the Sox may have a good start toward a mediocre staff. I repeat, no need to trade everybody. Let's buy some players this offseason and go .500 and make the playoffs.

  40. Good sinker and a good sweeper if he could get it over the plate. It seems like the Sox have some young pitching. Almost every trade going forward should be for positional talent.

  42. lol. This is such a clown fucking org. They sure backed off all that talk (not that it was every anything other than utter BS) about a quick turnaround and how Getz's familiarity with everything would help expedite that. They just lie to our faces over and over and expect us to keep coming back for more.

  43. I really wish one of the beat reporters would simply ask the question in the scrum: "Chris, less than a year ago at your introductory press conference, your boss said he thought the 2024 White Sox would be better than last year, and assured fans this wouldn’t be a true rebuild. Are you on the same page with Jerry? What changed?” But of course no one will.
