When new ownership arrives and builds a competent front office and that also spends money on development and acquiring top-level free agent talent. Until then the only "hope" may be...notice I said maybe, getting as much young talent as possible and hope (there's that word again) it can develop under the current dysfunctional organization. Seriously what else can be done given the restrictions JR has implemented???????????????????????? If there is another avenue I wish someone would explain it to me.3 points

JR on record no big contracts for pitchers, I’m sure extending GC was just lip service with lowball offer!3 points

I don't love what the Padres have to offer outside of Salas. Both Snelling and Lesko have also been down arrow this season.3 points

He's still getting a healthy amount of walks and his ISO ain't bad...but yes overall you are right that he needs to make major strides with his hit tool.2 points

He had a mental error and swung & fouled an 0-1 pitch when Luis had a running leadoff at 2nd and had the bag easy. Then the would be winning run never scored.2 points

I don't want to trade with SD anymore - I don't think they match up with what we need. James replies in that thread that he'd need Snelling and De Vries as a start, but I think we need to target impact outfield prospects.2 points

Boy would I love to be a fly on the wall for any Crochet trade discussions/proposals. The sheer amount of teams that should be interested, on top of his unique situation of already being at a career high on innings. So much to chew through. Don't f*** this up Chris.2 points

I’m in the boat that is fine extending him, but more of the team-friendly variety. Idk if I’d gamble $25M+ a year on his health. And knowing Jerry, he won’t either.2 points

I didn't know what the actual definition was (I just knew it was "hit hard), but MLB has it as: "To be Barreled, a batted ball requires an exit velocity of at least 98 mph. At that speed, balls struck with a launch angle between 26-30 degrees always garner Barreled classification. For every mph over 98, the range of launch angles expands." Basically, no one is squaring up on Bummer's pitches.2 points

Serious question. In the climate of how pitching is basically dropping like flies and constantly being hurt, and with his injury track record already - why would you be comfortable with signing him long term? He has looked great, which is why you should move him before he doesn’t. Look at Rodon.2 points
-
The reason the Sox have rushed back so many hurt guys, not 100% in my opinion over the last few seasons is because they have very little to zero quality depth anyplace especially in the minor league system and they panic because they have no options. Good teams and organizations like the Braves, Yankees, Cardinals, Dodgers to name a few get some guys hurt and instead of blowing up a season they plug in other guys from the big league roster or the minors and carry-on. Not the White Sox. They are forced to have a one-legged Iloy or a Robert trying to swing one-handed. Like I said lunacy. ?2 points

You never said anything about an extension to lift innings restrictions for this year. And it also said the team acquiring him would be offering the extension not the Sox. You were blaming Getz. Would be very odd for Crochet to agree to a long term deal to lift any innings limits for this year. Why would any GM risk Crochet's future by pitching him into a lengthy post season this year? That wouldn't make sense to sign him long term then try to pitch him to death the rest of the season for a short term gain that likely won't work and end up paying more money to do it. I'm sure Crochet would love a $100M contract but he's still going to be on a plan this season and it's not going to be a plan that included pitching a possible 200 innings into late October or early November.1 point

The stat allows pitchers know what pitches they throw are being squared up, and which aren't. That's valuable information.1 point

I’ve said before I’d prefer extending Crochet over trading him. But let’s be honest, Reinsdorf is gonna Jerry and refuse to take on any risk when it comes to pitching. Anyways, my point of optimism is regarding the market. Getz is a big wild card and could botch it, but at least the demand and the right GMs should be in the mix this deadline. The potential to execute a transformative series of trades is very much possible if managed correctly.1 point

Could the White Sox squeeze a Josue De Paula out of the Dodgers? I find it very difficult to figure out Crochet's actual value to other teams. ??♂️1 point

The Sox are run by idiots. No idea why you think those guys trading proven mlb stars for young players THEY have highly rated is worthy of optimism. I'd be optimistic if they signed crochet to a 5 year extension instead of trading him. Sadly, sounds like crochet is 100% gone because he wasn't in the same ballpark as cheap-o-sox.1 point

What is a "barrel?" A nouveau word for "homer?" Anyway, it's the same thing out of Bummer this year as in the past: Low homer totals, High Whip (1.60 this year), high ERA, but low FIP. So i guess the idea is that he keeps getting unlucky that so many of the balls hit against him are dropping in for hits. It goes back to those theories that the only true measurables are Ks and homers. But at some point, when "bad luck" keeps happening year after year, you have to question the validity of the statistic. Sox did fine on this trade.1 point

I have no regrets with the Sox cutting bait with Bummer, good luck to him I hope he gets a ring with Atlanta.1 point

Random thoughts, but I’m starting to feel very optimistic about White Sox trade possibilities. I really think Robert ultimately gets traded to the Phillies. It is just a perfect match for so many reasons with a package likely centered around Aiden Miller. Fedde is going to land a legit 50 FV prospect plus a nice secondary piece from a small club who needs a potential playoff starter on the cheap. And it’s all but a certainty Crochet gets dealt for a haul if he can hang in there for another four weeks. I was very skeptical teams would meet the ask given the innings concern, but sounds like in this market that won’t matter. There is real hope right now and Getz needs to deliver.1 point
