  1. It was a crime to put Crochet in the bullpen. Idiots

  3. Barons with a very exciting and very much needed comeback walkoff win! The score was 7-1 headed into bottom 9. Not much going on offense other than an Elko solo shot, combined with some sloppiness and bad luck on the other side of the ball. Two singles (Veras, Turner) and a walk to load the bases, then an RBI HBP makes it 7-2. Hogan adds 2 with a ground rule double and it's quickly 7-4 with two on and no outs. Santos smells a winnable game, so he pinch hits Quero. Quero reminds the Trash Pandas what they're missing with a 2 RBI single, 7-6 Barons. Still no outs. Pitching change, and Tatum pinch runs for Quero. Gonzo doubles to right, and they're a base hit away from a win... Baldwin breaks his 0-20ish slump with a well struck walkoff RBI hit to left on the first pitch. Barons win 8-7, and you could really, really tell how much they needed it.

  4. Even if we have to wait until the offseason or next year. I’d rather risk him turning it around and staying healthy for a haul compared to selling low to play it safe with a small return coming back. f*** it.

  5. Ugh.... It better damn well be a haul

  6. Robert had a ridiculously low BABIP a week or two ago. Was under .200 This is just normalization.

  7. Game should be called a Sox win automatically if you give up an RBI to Maldy.

  8. Well, it is only fair, for all of the dogging on AV for April-May, let's not let his last 30 days go unnoticed:

  9. Again, the runner on 3rd can fly, almost zero chance to throw him out, but he may come up lame, may fall down. As long as you are on the field getting paid millions, giving it your best shot should be the only option. If he just throws the ball, there is no problem, all those defending him not throwing it wouldnt have a problem. Like someone wrote earlier, if you aren't going to give it a token toss, why even catch it?

  11. Glad MLB Now called out Robert today on their Un-baseball-y plays. Just get behind the ball and make the throw. It’s just what you do.

  12. And he has to think of the Sox as the incompetent boob's who ruined his first 4 years and potential future earnings

  13. There's such a little committed money in the coming seasons that not extending him is pathetic.

  14. There was 0 chance Robert was going to get him. Outfielders are positioned in that point of the game where their arm can get there. Robert had to go back and to his left to make the catch. If he gets hurt on that throw, all of you would be bitching why he made that throw. Stop making it a bigger deal than it was.

  15. “Is it deep enough to score the run? Yes” The announcer knew that run was scoring. Robert should have positioned himself better and got off a throw. 99 times in 100 he’s safe. Just shows how little these guys care and having what… 24 wins on the season… I don’t blame them for not caring. Get Robert on a contending team and we’ll see his talent really start to shine. It sucks but it is what it is.

  16. Erick Fedde continued his brilliant pitching going 6 innings giving up 1 ER 3 hits ,3 walks and 3 K. Martin Maldonado was the offensive star of the game with a 2 run HR and an RBI single . Robert Jr had 2 hits a double and single. Sosa had 3 hits a double and 2 singles. Pham had 2 hits. Benintendi had a 2 RBI double. BP gave up 1 run on a solo HR in 3 innings.Banks pitched a perfect 1.1 innings and Steven Wilson pitched the 9th giving up 1 hit and no runs. Final Sox 8 Guardians 2.

  17. Hey if the Sox win this series they’re only 29 games back in the Central

  18. Same. No one else to play really. Wouldn’t be totally shocked if some team grabbed Nicky at the deadline for a bench pierce either.

  19. I can see it cut both ways - contenders want those innings on their own team down the stretch, but they also want a bigger sample size to confirm he's the real deal before they commit to selling the farm for him. Look at Luis Gil's incredible start to the season vs his cratering this last month. If he was in Crochet's position (ie on a seller), teams would be glad to have seen those extra innings and adjust how much they want to give up.

  20. OK brother...if you give up RBI hits to BOTH Maldonado AND Benintendi, go ahead and announce your retirement.

  24. I still think it would have been easier to do that in the minors to open the year (shorter starts, easier to skip, gain another year of control). I agree with with s2k5 for thinking they’re pumping him up for a trade and don’t really care about how this would effect him later.

  25. Yep. The thread title should be updated to: “KW open to returning to baseball; no teams open to hiring KW”

  26. That struck me upon reading it. No love lost, I guess. Getz probably was in Jerry's ear for a while.

  27. That is why I like them for Fedde to be honest. If they aren't going to give up the top guys - maybe the roster crunch allows the Sox to move Fedde for a solid quantity of quality (but not high end) prospects.

  28. This is the kind of thing that would NOT have happened under Ricky. Say what you will about Renteria's tactical decisions, but the one thing he did do (seemingly) is to get the guys to show up and actually play baseball to the best of their abilities. These types of lazy plays would not have happened with him at the helm.

  29. The Sox aren't going to bench him for two games when the most important thing right now is proving his health and increasing his numbers/trade value.

  30. And I would have been shocked if Crochet would have been willing to accept the type of extension that he would have been offered before this season.
    2 points
  31. There is not a team in MLB that would have signed Crochet to an extension this past offseason.

  32. Make a real offer or get fucked Orioles. Actually, just get fucked. I don't trust what they'd be willing to give up panning out.

  33. What's it telling you ? It's 2 different guys. How one is treated has nothing to do with the other one. Crochet and his agent I would assume aren't boobs. Do you think Crochet feels like he's being run into the ground or abused or handled wrong in any way ? It's pretty easy for Crochet to say in any game "take me out ,my arm doesn't feel right" or " I'm tired." Do you believe Nightingale when he said the Sox plan to curtail him severely in the 2nd half if he isn't traded ? Is him throwing less sliders a part of an over all plan ? Maybe Thorpe is feeling a bit of fatigue and Crochet isn't. You could view both pitchers as key pieces in the future of the franchise. Thorpe for his abilities on future Sox teams and Crochet for the talent he brings in that contributes to future Sox teams. I think we're all better off not saying something is " telling" if we're not going to say why it's so telling.

  36. Gonzalez is wearing out in his first full season of professional baseball. He's still carrying a .350 obp and 39:31 k to bb ratio. Not bad for a kid that was completely written off by many.

  37. The only concerning thing about Montgomery is the k's. He still way ahead of schedule for the 22nd pick. He's 3 years removed from high school. He's taking his lumps in AAA, but it's not like he's completely overmatched. I would have preferred her stayed in AA, but nothing that's happened is overly concerning.

  38. Goodness, I didn't even look at that graphic close enough....how in the world was pitch 3 AND 4 a ball? I didn't watch the game, admittedly, only followed on Gameday.

  39. Because he wasn't. Its the poster who posts on message boards although he thinks message boards are stupid, and supposedly is a Sox fan although he thinks Sox fans suck.

  40. Bullshit, I was at 80% of his home games in his prime. He got booed in 2002. But his last AB in what was maybe his last home game in 2002, when the speculation was his Diminished Skills clause would be picked up by JR, he got a standing ovation.

  41. Robert probably had the same thought we all had from the beginning of the inning. Once Kopech let the first batter reach, we all knew the game was over. Sure, he should have thrown the ball, but do we care? Not really.

  42. Unnecessarily pushing him to AAA to begin the season was a choice I wouldn't have made.

  44. I just really think he had built this huge public image of being smooth and awesome and then that facade was broken when the social media stuff started, and he just has not been able to find that again. I do think it’s mostly mental

  45. Also it was a close, 'good' game. Competitors like Pete Rose make that throw. I'd love to hear some old time baseballer talk about Robert not throwing. Again, very bad optics. There's always a chance the runner falls or leaves early or misses the plate. Weird way to end a close game against the division leaders.
