  2. Th The issue is that the Sox don't get the perks of small market clubs. Can only draft in the top 6 one time instead of twice in a row, they don't receive extra competitive balance draft picks like small market clubs do and they don't get extra money to spend internationally. They're a large market club. They need to act like it.

  6. If the Sox bring up Colson this year, woof. He’s been bad at AAA. He shouldn’t sniff the big leagues until next summer. Wasting a year of service on this shithole team with this lame duck manager would be malpractice.

  9. Not going into the season. My guess would be that they tried the starter for lack of options. When it turned out this good he became trade fodder and increasing his value is the priority. Same reason they are playing vets over the kids. Maximize their value, trade the ones they can, release the others and play kids after the deadline.

  10. That series they got swept at the end of 2022 by the Guardians was REALLY the end, although most Sox fans were at least SOMEWHAT optimistic going into 2023 because of the possibility of better player health and the replacement of TLR...but we were almost universally correct about being skeptical on that one. It's usually a bad sign when a guy's own organization doesn't have enough faith in him. Kind of the same thing with Sandy Alomar, Jr., in Cleveland. Some just don't have the drive and determination to deal with the modern day player in a more proactive way, or simply to put in the long hours and deal with incessant travel for 7 1/2 months of the year, and an extra 3 weeks for the post-season. Call it the Gabe Kapler-ization, Joe Maddon or Terry Francona after he left BOS approach. The opposite of "old school" which Grifol pretty much defines. Even Grifol's best friend Eduardo Perez is much more forward thinking from a media-oriented perspective. In the end, Anderson let fame and women go to his head and started to believe he was one of the greats of the game, a modern-day Jackie Robinson and basically his "s%*# didn't stink." He didn't put in the time and effort to keep improving on defense. He hit so well over a 3 year stretch that he thought it was just like riding a bike and he didn't have to put the work in there, either. When you believe you're indispensable to the franchise, you tend to start getting a feeling of entitlement and nobody was every able to really get in his face like an Abreu, Cueto or Pham type of leader and get through to him about the consequences of living a wild life on the road, going out all the time, not living the "clean" dedicated/committed Ohtani way...the guy who's always out there thinking of ways to improve and hone his craft every single day on earth until he retires.

  11. Yeah, this idea that only Harold and Aly wanted to see Crochet used as a SP is hilarious. The vast majority of this board wanted to try him as a SP. I know several of us (myself included) wanted begin that conversion in the minors to allow for a more gradual buildup and to gain an extra year of control, but Hahn sticking with Crochet as a reliever was genuinely panned by this board.

  12. I don’t think there’s a single poster here who wanted him in the bullpen after 2020, or even wanted him up in 2020 in the bullpen (starting wasn’t really an option that short season obviously). I think many would have wanted him in the minors in a starting role in 2021.

  13. So he kinda sucks at 3B (as reported by yours truly) but if he keeps hitting like this he's got a role. Insane what statcast has as his percentile for BA. We are in a new era boys. If you can hit 280 as a player you are almost assuredly an average regular all things considered. And he's got some pop. Interesting profile, a guy that can probably hit a bit, but isn't a great athlete and probably will need to hit like 280/320/420 to be a solid regular. Honestly maybe he can do it. In today's game if you can hit for average with pop it carries value, it's rare.

  14. Good to see a breakdown. Glad he's starting to hit. I remember last week or two Harold's leg lift saying he hopes Sosa gets demoted soon. Wonder what his reasoning for hating him so much is.

  15. Right. If you assume Colson either breaks 2025 camp with the Sox or is called up in the first ~3 weeks of the season, giving him a cup of coffee this September won’t make a difference. Keeping him in AAA this year as they should and calling him up sometime in May or June 2025, Sox secure an extra year of control. Pushing that date back a month it’s stupid; he hasn’t earned it and assuming he’s breaking camp with the 2025 Sox is a very shortsighted assumption. But this is the Sox after all.

  16. Knights win, 8-3. 5 HRs for the game (Baldwin, Quero, Montgomery, Chavis, Payton). Baldwin 2-3 with a HR and walk. Quero 1-4 with a HR. Montgomery 1-4 with a HR. Colas 1-3 with a 3B, SB, heads up baserunning, and a nice sliding catch. Fletcher 1-4 with solid CF defense. Also some solid pitching for guys we should start seeing in the MLB pen this year and next (Leasure, Coffey, Ellard, Peralta). Knights suddenly very exciting.

  27. I don't know if this was just long enough ago that people forgot ot weren't around, but Frank Thomas 100% caught strays from both fans and teammates. He was booed by fans. His toughness was questioned by teammates and managers. Bo Jackson called him a selfish prick and a douchebag. Sox fans have a history of booing players that look like Frank. That goes back decades. Call it racism, or deserved somehow, but it is true.

  28. That's why I asked him to clarify what he meant by bullpen. What you just said is what I said earlier and said at the beginning of the season after listening to Crochet talk about how he wanted to be a starter and totally embraced a starting pitcher's routine. This idea gainng traction that the Sox don't care about his health has no basis in fact. It's only based on how much he is pitching and lack of actual knowledge about how the Sox AND CROCHET wanted to approach his usage. I understand that it's a very unique situation and that how it's being done is not the normal err on the side of caution way but I have a hard time believing anyone among Bannister , Getz and Crochet himself think he's being treated as a piece of high quality meat.

  29. I don't think anyone can actually say with any amount of certainty that even if Crochet had been developed as a starter that he wouldve been doing what he's doing now earlier. Maybe it's just that in college and his early years with the Sox his body or arm was not equipped to handle either role without injury. He probably ends up having TJS either way. He's much bigger and stronger now than he was back then . We have to keep in mind that despite all the gnashing of teeth about how he was developed it led directly to what he's doing now . It's just wish casting to think Crochet would've been at where he is now sooner.

  30. This guy Infers racism in like 50+ percent of his posts. Glad to see other people are realizing it now. I don’t recall Frank being booed. If Anderson got booed, it’s because he sucks. And he probably sucks because he is worried about his shrunken paycheck going to all of his side pieces cuz he’s apparently never heard of pulling out.

  36. Even if we have to wait until the offseason or next year. I’d rather risk him turning it around and staying healthy for a haul compared to selling low to play it safe with a small return coming back. f*** it.

  39. Barons with a very exciting and very much needed comeback walkoff win! The score was 7-1 headed into bottom 9. Not much going on offense other than an Elko solo shot, combined with some sloppiness and bad luck on the other side of the ball. Two singles (Veras, Turner) and a walk to load the bases, then an RBI HBP makes it 7-2. Hogan adds 2 with a ground rule double and it's quickly 7-4 with two on and no outs. Santos smells a winnable game, so he pinch hits Quero. Quero reminds the Trash Pandas what they're missing with a 2 RBI single, 7-6 Barons. Still no outs. Pitching change, and Tatum pinch runs for Quero. Gonzo doubles to right, and they're a base hit away from a win... Baldwin breaks his 0-20ish slump with a well struck walkoff RBI hit to left on the first pitch. Barons win 8-7, and you could really, really tell how much they needed it.

  41. I still think it would have been easier to do that in the minors to open the year (shorter starts, easier to skip, gain another year of control). I agree with with s2k5 for thinking they’re pumping him up for a trade and don’t really care about how this would effect him later.
