Just let him play. He’s always struggled at first at each level before figuring it out. He’s still got a chance to be a second rate starter in this league.6 points

Lenyn Sosa currently with the 2nd highest BA on the team. And to think, some wanted him jettisoned off forever, because he hadn't taken advantage of his whopping career 200 ABs coming into 2024.4 points

Th The issue is that the Sox don't get the perks of small market clubs. Can only draft in the top 6 one time instead of twice in a row, they don't receive extra competitive balance draft picks like small market clubs do and they don't get extra money to spend internationally. They're a large market club. They need to act like it.4 points

because a guy who might work for the sox said as much in the game thread?3 points

Between Cease's pure stuff, ceiling and durability, calling him a mid tier starter is just fucking stupid. It really is.3 points

You know how the Hawks got Bedard? They dumped all of their good players when they got expensive and near the end of their deals. Yes, they tanked.3 points

Congrats, you have spent about a billion dollars, and assembled a 75 win team. You are now the NY Mets, and Crochet and Fedde are leaving via free agency.3 points
-
I think you also forgot that the Sox had all of Robert, Crochet, and Fedde, and were still 13.5 games out of the race on April 29th.3 points

One of my favorite SoxFest stories ever was meeting Cal Eldred like a month after we traded for him from Milwaukee for Navarro. I told him how excited Sox fans were to have him here, and the guy who was sitting next to him doing security looks over at him and said "Yeah, you are the most popular guy in Chicago right now.".3 points

I have said it in a couple of other places, but once Yoan is back, move him off of 3B. The kid is a 2B for sure. If he can hit at the .700 OPS end of where he has been, he's a 10 year major leaguer. Even with the slow start he is up to an 88 RC+ which is 20th (with Marcus Semien) among MLB 2Bs with 200 or more PAs, and has a 92 OPS+ on the season. If you plot back to his last call up, he has actually put up a .295/.333/.467/.800 line since May 31 (so about 5 weeks now). That .800 OPS would rank 5th among 2Bs on the season with 200 or more PAs.3 points

As with every illness plaguing this org, it starts and stops with him.3 points

You think there's a chance he's not ? No GM is given absolute freedom especially JR GMs. How is this not constantly remembered ?2 points

Your 2024 Chicago White Sox....we're just regular old bad now Good seats available2 points

I’d 100% boycott the team until Jerry dies if this were to happen. It’s literally the single dumbest thing we could possibly do if we ever want to be serious about winning a championship again.2 points

It would be an absolute abomination and prove that Getz is just another Reinsdorf patsy.2 points

I'd probably find something else to do at that point, honestly. That would be a mortal sin. Eat the money, maximize the insane value of Garrett.2 points
-
If they get a lesser return for Crochet because they are trying to unload Benintendi, that is a damn joke. The payroll will be lower next season, they can just eat that friggin contract.2 points

Well, Drew Thorpe is on the verge of starting his career 3-1 with an ERA in the low 3s for a team that’s on pace to lose 115 games. If people aren’t happy with the trade, it’s because they irrationally dislike Getz…2 points

Yes, just mocking Harold for thinking dumping Benintendi’s “god awful” $55M contract is more important than getting high-end prospects for Robert.2 points

Baldwin already 2-2 on the night. Colson 1-2 so far while Dominic Fletcher is back and has hit a bomb.2 points

I like watching Garrett Crochet pitch and Luis Robert at bats( very few guys in the lineup that I could say this about). I'm not against trading them for elite prospects back. I am against trading them for a bunch of mid tier prospects. That doesn't add up to me.2 points

The bolded IS my position categorically because THERE IS NO OTHER VIABLE WAY OUT. Again JR isn't changing his operating philosophy. No top shelf free agents No long term deals for pitchers No negotiating with certain agents Fiscal responsibility when it comes to team payroll Do you want me to go on????????????????????? The first rebuild failed because guys constantly were injured AND this is often overlooked JR REFUSED to finish the deal. They had little depth, did not get the franchise changing player (Machado/Harper) and over ruled his front office to bring in TLR. He thinks his way is the right way, history shows it isn't but that simply doesn't register with him. So what can you do? 1. Outlive current ownership 2. Break out those VHS tapes and DVD of Sox games/highlights from better seasons 3. Do EXACTLY what they are doing now, trading anybody worth a damn for prospects and "hope" they can develop and turn the franchise around. That's all I've got.2 points
-
I agree no one will trade for him, but Sox gonna need him once they move 40% of their current rotation.2 points

They say misery loves company. At least from my perspective the Cubs being in last place brings a smile to my face when I check the standings.2 points

He was recently interviewed by the Sun Times and he said he would be open to returning to baseball as a GM or advisor. He never once said he wants to come back to the Sox though. Not sure the intention of the OP.2 points

This doesn’t remind me at all of that. Javy fell apart at 5-6 innings, every time. The minute we saw him starting to flail around we would be like “TAKE HIM OUT” and that lasted his entire tenure. Cease was brilliant , then had an ok year, this team bottomed out and we had to scramble to trade him because we never bothered to extend him and then he decided to hang with Boras so some people convinced themselves Cease isn’t as good as we thought. i honestly don’t think anything is similar to Javy2 points

He has been really good out of the pen. I think that 100% for sure a team takes a chance on him, and it will be probably be a smaller budget team trying to get a good bargain on a guy without a big name as a reliever. There just isn't enough pitching around for teams to avoid most of our relievers. The other consideration here is that Soroka is a free agent in 3 months. He's gone, 100% for sure. Even if it is a crappy rookie league relief pitcher, the Sox take what they get for him. Personally I think they get something interesting as I explained why above.2 points
-
Based on his numbers last year he should have been in line for a multi year deal at $10 million per season, or more. He got neither. No one wanted him. And even if he had defied the odds of pitchers skipping spring training and being decent, that probably doesn't change. It's hard not to point at the obvious reason why, but Mike Clevinger is not a wanted commodity around MLB.2 points
-
I agree, if there is a legit offer they should do it. There is nothing special about him.2 points
-
I would trade Andrew Vaughn for anything of value if I had the chance. He is a guy I just don’t have faith in to hit enough to commit to long-term.2 points
-
I think we see a ton of pitchers moved, and not a lot of position players. For pitchers I went with Crochet, Fedde, Flexen, Kopech, Brebbia, Wilson, Banks and Soroka. Hitters, just the top 3 listed in Robert, Pham, and DeJong.2 points

I get the feeling that the organization doesn't care if they win or lose. I can't figure what their game plan is. It seems to me they want to have the lowest payroll in MLB next season.2 points

Excellent post. The new CBA rules really expose those tightwad owners even more, IMO. They can no longer reap the benefits of a true tanking rebuild. Doing this while simultaneously saving $100-$200 million during a span of 3-4 years on super trim payrolls. Doing all this with a “goal” of top 5 draft picks annually. Obviously the lowest hanging fruit is the fact that Jerry will never spend on a superstar, blue-chip players. However, another major issue is his lack of investment in the scouting department, developmental system and data analyst. The White Sox are so behind, it’s embarrassing. White Sox fans have always questioned Jerry’s commitment to winning. But seriously, is there even a debate anymore? This is more of a business venture/niche hobby for him versus a the obvious goal of winning another championship. The White Sox are indeed a large market team. Don’t let Jerry fool you other wise behind his $2 billion net worth. Don’t let him cry poor and tell you that he can’t win in the current stadium. The White Sox have plenty of resources to act like a major market franchise. However, a choice is being made not to allocate those resources appropriately. I can’t wait for the day an owner of our favorite team puts winning as priority #1…2 points

I guess this was a bit premature because Cease certainly didn’t pitch like peak-level Verlander for long. As we sit here on July 5, his ERA is up to 4.24 and rising FAST. His trade value today is certainly less than where it was four months ago. Apparently Getz was right to pull the trigger when he did.2 points

It tells me that he ain't a Getz boy. Which means that he's developing on his own. Make Sosa the director of player development.2 points
