Manfred ball really magnifies how fundamentally bad this team is at baseball.5 points

The only reason to make this thread is to scum gather the weird Baltimore people into one place. I applaud It.4 points

Zavala’s wRC+ is higher than Bradfield’s despite being three years younger at the same level, but haven’t heard you say he is struggling…3 points

I don't think people wanted him as a headliner in a big deal. For a secondary piece, or a smaller level player, sure.3 points

There’s no urgent reason to necessarily trade Wilson at the deadline though. He would most likely have value next year as well. Could be the Sox have further moves lined up and Wilson is back in a week, in which case this would have virtually zero impact on his trade value at this trade deadline anyway. Seems like a lot of gnashing of teeth over nothing to me. Whether we get some B-/C+ prospect for him now or later I would argue is a pretty minor considerations. It’s not like they dfa’d him3 points

This sounds like the most logical explanation. There's no reason to trade him anyway; won't get much and it will cost more to sign someone for next season.3 points
-
He can't get moving. Nobody is trading right now with the MLB Draft next Sunday-Tuesday. It'll all happen after that.3 points
-
Very interesting choice with Wilson. One thing to consider, if he spends about 3 weeks in the minors Sox will get another year of control and he'd be controlled through 2028, instead of 2027.3 points

If you took away cease two worst starts this year: 3.35 ERA/2.90 FIP Pretty damn good, eh?3 points

Personally, this is why I hope we avoid acquiring a 29-year-old reliever as part of any Crochet trade.3 points

Totally disagree. He’s a great headliner and probably the best one available. If I could get Miller, plus one of Crawford/Caba and two other pieces, that’s a pretty good deal. I’d probably take a gamble on Mick Abel too. They line up well.3 points

It will take 6-7 years if the process was just "let getz fail, let new GM start over in 3 years" but there is no baseball process that works that takes that long. Baltimore had about as thorough a teardown as you can get, and did not accelerate it with big signings, and that took 4 years before they were in their window. There is no 6-7 year process for mlb for a competent org.3 points

I bet there is a decent chance he is a replacement once guys start falling out due to being unavailable to pitch. He's worthy.3 points

I think Robert will go. I don’t think Getz is going to shoot for the stars on this deal. Similar to the Cease deal. He’ll “settle” for market value and not risk the possibility of injury and poor 2nd half performance. With DiPoto and Dombrowski in the mix, you can get fair value at this deadline. It’s a marriage of Getz wanting to move on from the previous core and those execs selling themselves on a player with a lot of potential.2 points

Most on here didn't want norby. I would love to have him. Pencil him in at 2nd base for the next 6 years.2 points

The Brewers would trade Ortiz for Thorpe in a nanosecond. And DL Hall absolutely blows because he walks the world. It would be difficult to argue that the Sox didn’t get a better return for Cease than the Brewers did for Burnes.2 points

What makes this 400-page thread so much fun is that both sides know that the two teams aren’t going to be trade partners.2 points

We have showcased him and he hasn't been very good. Might as well try again next year and see if he can create value. Being critical of this move is really just looking for nits to pick.2 points

According to fip, if you give up four doubles off the wall and strikeout three to get out of the inning, you just had an outstanding inning whereas if you give up a solo homerun and get of the inning on three weakly hit infield dribblers you had a bad inning, even though you gave up 1/3 of the runs and got hammered 1/4 the amount of times. That’s why it doesn’t make sense. FIP isn’t a particularly sound measure since it concludes that since fielding may have an impact on some plays, that all fielded balls are irrelevant when it comes to the measure of the quality of pitching. Which is clearly ludicrous. I mean it’s still an interesting stat, but way too much credence given to it when its entire premise, that fielded balls are irrelevent, is completely unsound.2 points

Wilson had 2 full years of service heading into 2024. He's got plenty of control (and optioning his could create more), so they have plenty of time to turn him into a viable trade asset. He really hasn't been that great this season, and they do need relievers, and he is cheap, so no reason why you can't hold him through 2025.2 points
-
So they are drafting a 1B in the top 5 they are going to stick into the OF at full slot value. Did we actually fire the previous administration?2 points

Wilson hasn't been consistent, but he's decidedly better than Anderson or Kuhl. I can only figure that they don't want to trade Wilson, but do have hopes of moving anderson or Kuhl (floundering as those hopes may be). Or they think they can fix Wilson. It doesn't amount to a whole lot this year, but the Sox have not done a great job sifting through these veteran relievers. Cast offs Tim Hill and Chavez are pitching well with contenders.2 points

6 or 7 years is probably accurate, but with a good front office, and scouting, and development staff, it could take half of that. Larry Himes drafted Black Jack 5th, then got The Boy Wonder 10th, which is exactly where they will be after next years draft. Got the Big Hurt 7th....they were ready to go, and then added young Alex 4th. Competent vs. JR yes men. That stretch lead to perhaps the best sustained success during JR's ownership. Then the strike happened, and they started operating their current style.2 points

Robert is under control for 3.5 years. If someone doesn't meet his price, you have this off-season, plus next trade deadline, plus next off season before you really start to get into a depreciation situation. I get the Crochet situation is unique with only 2.5 years left, and an innings limit for this season, but Robert is really a no need to rush situation. All it does it push back getting more players into the system.2 points

The Tampa Plant High product has evolved into a college baseball rock star, getting flooded with autograph requests on the road during postgame walks to the team bus. It happened again during UF’s last regular-season series at Georgia, and Jac's level of popularity rather amuses Gators coach Kevin O’Sullivan. “All the wives and mothers [in the UF program] call him Gaston from Beauty and the Beast,” said O’Sullivan. “Look, everybody respects the limelight he’s under. I have no idea the amount of pressure he’s under day in and day out. “There were Georgia fans in droves outside of our bus wanting his autograph. I’m not saying it’s [Tim] Tebow-like, but it’s a different thing what he goes through every day.” Florida's Jac Caglianone is closest thing college baseball has to Shohei Ohtani (jacksonville.com) Seems a bit like a Bryce Harper type with lots of steak and "sizzle" in one package...the type of guy who rubs a lot the wrong way, just like Gaston if you know your Beauty and the Beast, lol. Actually think the White Sox need some more guys like that with unshakeable confidence in themselves...and anti-Vaughn, so to speak.2 points

With those trades and the current prospects we have inching closer they may be worse but it will be a hell of a lot more enjoyable to watch seeing these guys develop and progress.2 points

I'm a broadcaster for Idaho State University in the Big Sky Conference. BIG DIFFERENCE between those kids and professional players getting paid millions and millions of dollars supposedly to perform. And no, ISU doesn't have huge NIL deals for their athletes. To answer your question I'd never call those kids clowns and buffoons They are amatures but when they have played badly I HAVE called them out because I also have an obligation to the audience to be truthful. I have gotten into hot water at times because of it but that's what happens when you have a conflict of interest situation between the school, which is paying me, and the obligation to my profession and the listeners/viewers. I respected Jack as a good broadcaster but he was as unbiased and honest as today's politicians. If the Cubs or Sox were having a bad season or getting blown out he'd still try to tell you that everything is fine. That's insulting to a fan in my opinion. That's thinking they are idiots. Now feel free to go back to telling us how the Sox were going to have a good season or after winning a few games how this was going to be the start of a turnaround. ?? I repeat this edition of the Sox as well as basically since 2007 are nothing but clowns and buffoons and that extends into ownership and the front office on the baseball side.2 points

I have said it in a couple of other places, but once Yoan is back, move him off of 3B. The kid is a 2B for sure. If he can hit at the .700 OPS end of where he has been, he's a 10 year major leaguer. Even with the slow start he is up to an 88 RC+ which is 20th (with Marcus Semien) among MLB 2Bs with 200 or more PAs, and has a 92 OPS+ on the season. If you plot back to his last call up, he has actually put up a .295/.333/.467/.800 line since May 31 (so about 5 weeks now). That .800 OPS would rank 5th among 2Bs on the season with 200 or more PAs.2 points
