  1. I was very against Caglianone until this post…now I am all in

  2. While I adore the draft, I'm ready for it to be over so we can get the trade season percolating.

  3. Great. He has like 5 career starts or whatever.

  4. And then hired someone even more unqualified without interviews

  5. You mean Robert on IL and Crochet shut down?

  6. Pretty sure I saw him in Good Fellas.

  7. That's 100% how it should be. I initially read this as they'd be the only two guys they'd trade and was very confused.

  8. A special shout out to the Cubs for kicking the s%*# out of the Orioles and hopefully helping this process along a bit.

  9. This organization needs a drastic improvement in offensive talent. Hopefully they draft Cags and then get some core pieces with Crochet and Robert and Fedde dealt.

  10. I'd tell Caglianone that the bonus is $7 million at #5 and see if he takes it. That's the difference between 6-7 and I doubt he goes 6. It allows the Sox to save another $760K. Add that to the $730K overage and picks 9 and 10 and they'd have an extra $1.8 million to play with. Could theoretically go to $4 million at #43. That's Ryan Sloan territory.

  11. .280 .346 .580 .926 Robert's triple slash line over the last two weeks.. Hopefully remains like this for awhile as the rust gets off him.

  12. Still disappointed by Thorpe as the Cease headliner even though he may outpitch Cease as a rookie this season?

  13. I’ll be in the minority and say I don’t agree with the need to “win” trades. Get what you deem fair value and move on. Obviously you hold these guys if that doesn’t happen, but needing a team to overpay is a bit extreme IMO.

  14. In BA's draft podcast today they do a preview for all 30 teams. There is a sizable section at the start where they just talk about Jac Caglianone in general. It's very insightful. Paraphrased below. This is conversation between Carlos, Ben, and Peter. It all started with the question "Do you get a sense that Cags is a polarizing player?" I was slightly disappointed that they didn't talk about his defensive chops. Maybe that's telling though? I'm much more into Jac if he can be an average RF.

  15. You would think Sheets makes more sense for those teams. Cheaper and pretty much the same production. Plus, not only can he play 1B/DH he can play the OF as well lol.

  16. One of the takeaways when the Sox play the Twins is the enormous talent deficit the Sox roster has compared to the Twins. Buxton is better than Luis Robert . Lee is going to be a perennial All Star. Correa in an incredible player, etc. plus Santana, Wallner etc, and their bullpen. Sox have just had too many failed Drafts and trades over the years and I doubt money alone will fix that.

  17. Well Ozzie Jr does understand not being worth picking in the draft.

  18. The Sox are certainly not going to pay for anyone with that profile in free agency anytime soon, might as well draft it.

  19. Those numbers also completely ignore that he had one terrible start which destroyed his SSS. Remove that game and his line is 6 ER in 29.1 IP for a 1.84 ERA with 10 BB and 19 K over that span. His FIP would also look very different. If you aren't seeing something different in him, you aren't looking.

  20. If anything helps with selling Vaughn, it's that since June 1st, he's in the Top 6 for average, OBP, slugging and wRC+ for first basemen.

  22. So far, he’s striking out more per 9 innings than Buehrle did over his career. Why do you need to strike out a bunch of guys to have success?
    2 points
  23. Because teams don't want to have to give a raise in arb to a bum like Vaughn who probably isn't even worth a roster spot. All those guys you listed have at least a year or two of sustained success and in a few cases are more than just a glorified DH. Apples to Oranges. Vaughn has zero chance of being traded. The Sox will trot him out there next year and just hope and wish he turns into someone worth a roster spot. Hope and wishing isn't a viable plan, but they will try.

  24. Maybe he gets better if he starts to know the game. The footprint of stupidity was pronouncing Veeck's name wrong. It's a first in my world.

  25. What have the Sox done in the last 15 years to give a fan any sort of hope?

  26. You finally figured out the flawed psychology of baseball. It is an unpredictable sport. Trading to today for tomorrow doesn't work for the habitually losing franchises. If you put s%*# on the field people don't go and people don't watch. TV revenue is important. Jerry has turned this organization into the A's the suckwell. Prospects are not immune to TJ surgery or becoming a Jake Burger. Yet you can divorce the idea from more involved fans to realize it's rare the return was worth the risk. Farm system rankings are overrated as with prospect rankings, some fans are already declaring Montgomery a bust. The worst thing about baseball is it has more than enough bad ownership. Every s%*# team that has a good player the word trade pops up. Even Ozzie joked about that after the Cannon performance. Baseball doesn't really allow for cheap ownership. If one wants to a buy a MLB franchise they better investigate the large amount of overhead and have an ego for winning. The business of baseball is not very fan friendly. In a few years I would not be surprised if the WNBA ratings exceed MLB.

  30. Yes, but you cant’t assign human characteristics to a vague term like team payoll…as who would empathize or sympathize with JR, a faceless miser to most? You’re theoretically meaning to say equal to…balancing out…cash flow neutral.

  31. This is pretty much all that you needed to say. I am glad to finally see you said that you will find a reason to justify everything though.

  32. That's the final straw for me. Bring out Carl Everett.

  33. You shouldn’t think he would ever sign a single player to that kind of contract much less multiple considering 5/$75 is their largest contract of all time.

  36. Thorpe is super interesting. He's kinda a unicorn. Just looking at some of his data after today's start. He def has some MB like tendencies but as a RHP a little harder to make that stand up. Still, a promising start to his career.

  37. Your entire argument (tonight) has been Hahn/Williams didn’t identify the right targets in FA. They went after Wheeler aggressively, which would have fundamentally changed what took place for the Sox over the last 3-4 years. They ended up having to settle for a much lesser pitcher in Keuchle, because they were not able to top another offer that was on the table. They identified the right pitcher, they weren’t able to beat out a much better organization in signing the player. Thats on ownership. Additionally, you mention fundamental problems with culture and team makeup. Jerry is the person that kept Hahn and Williams employed WAY past their expiration date, and just hired someone to run his organization that was, wait for it…hired by Hahn and Williams. But sure, the 88 year old Jerry is going to get it right this time, just watch.

  40. The quiet part - Fletcher optioned to AAA. He's finally hitting somewhere. He'll most likely be up in 3 weeks, too.

  41. Even if you give them a break on Wheeler, not getting Machado or Harper was borderline negligence for the rebuild. What did we have flexibility for in the first place?

  42. I disagree with you a lot and you accused me of stalking you.Talk about not getting over it. I could say I'm living rent free in you're head. Isn't that one of your little catch phrases along with getting your feeling hurt ? You typically like to jump on a guy who's already got 2 people pounding on him. You're supposed be a moderator not an instigator or intimidator because you're feeling mighty in a wolfpack attack. Lots of people here know this about you. You're not the defender of the downtrodden like you make youself out to be when social issues invade the sports world. You're more like let me get a kick in too as long as hes getting kicked already. Face it you're a bully and abuse whatever authority is given to you as a mod.

  46. Judging by that tweet, the Sox are going to attempt to rush an injury-prone player back, just so they can trade him for peanuts I guess. I agreed it doesn’t really matter because he is gone anyways but like most things this team does, it will likely end in hilarity.
