Everyone in this argument is correct. Orioles getting high draft picks helps tremendously. Adley was the most slam dunk #1 ever. Getting Competitive Balance picks is a fucking cheat code in the MLB draft. It's like @bmags once said, you'll see all these teams get high praise post-draft and be like "how did they get so many steals?" Oh, it's cause they get so much extra bonus money. Imagine if the Sox could shift money around to get an extra Wolkow every year. The Sox were bad at drafting pre-Shirley. Crochet's a hit, now hopefully Colson and Schultz hit and depth lands.6 points

Two things that Sox don't do with position players. Drafting. Development.4 points

I just logged in to say the same thing. It wasn’t even a borderline missed call. It was center cut. Cost Cannon a run.3 points

They are also waiting 5 days after the break to pitch him again. Feels like they are giving themselves a couple of weeks to trade him without risk of injury to me.3 points

I think this has more to do with the All-Star game appearance than stopping Crochet right after 100 innings.3 points

Baltimore gets competitive balance picks which makes a world of a difference in “drafting studs later”.3 points

You're calling BS that there's a correlation between high draft picks and a good farm? Good luck with that. The Sox top hitting prospect was the 22nd pick and among the youngest players in his league. Obviously the Sox are really lacking in development, but the Orioles have truly sucked in that regard for 45 years too. In the current Orioles situation, they were better at sucking.3 points

A top 5 pick next year would actually be better than this year from the sounds of it.3 points

The best part is that Crochet should hypothetically boost Fedde's value. Teams want Crochet but the price is too high, well, they can start negotiating down to Fedde. And if one of them is off the market, the other becomes more valuable.3 points

I'm personally OK with the Cubs springing to life until July 31, then collapsing again.3 points

He’s a year older and with less pedigree. I personally like him more cuz he’s faster and may have a bit more pop, but Gonzalez made it to AA less than a year after he was drafted. Baldwin was in Kanny at the same point in their careers. I think it is close.2 points

How did the ump miss that pitch on 3-2? I know the runner was going, but that was a blatant strike.2 points

You want to immitate the Royals? The Royals spent half a decade tanking to get their franchise player before they had enough of a team to spend a minimal amount around.2 points

The longer they wait to trade him the better chance some team will get desperate and overpay the Sox. With that said, I’d rather see Crochet stay a Sox.2 points

It's BS that Crochet is so close to the perfecto, and they won't let him finish.2 points

Was wondering why I couldn't find the strikeout prop bet on Caesars2 points

Sox aren't even last in OPS over that period (2nd to last; but not last). Managers don't win games, but they sure do lose them.2 points

Can deliver it well when healthy, but takes a punch like Tim Anderson.2 points

The media is dumb. It's a small club and everybody is usually pretty chummy with each other. When someone makes an offer that another GM considers a reach it's not like they just hang up and never talk again, it's just a starting point. Not nearly the stakes obviously but anybody that has ever managed a fantasy team and made trades understands that sometimes yea there's no common ground but usually if two guys are motivated to get a deal done it will get done regardless of how the opening offers looked.2 points

I think we get a piece out of someone's top 10. You can't teach that arm2 points

There's copious draft discisson in the actual draft thread for those that aren't aware it exists.2 points

it would be fitting and hilarious if whoever we select at 5 refuses to sign because of how awful our hitting development is in the minors.2 points

Exactly - plus the points regarding his friendly contract which @CaliSoxFanViaSWsidehammered home (and I didn't feel the need to belabor).2 points

Might not be popular, but I’m taking 1 of the pitchers (Smith or Burns) over Griffin…or any hitter besides the top 4. I know it doesn’t fit the needs of the franchise, but I just think they are superior prospects. With the state of the franchise I’d still be in the mode of “get all the best talent available and sort it out later.” Don’t force a pick just because it’s a hitter2 points

Next year. This was announced this year he was pitching on 4 innings and on Saturdays only. I like the way they’re handling hin1 point

Eh, it helps the Sox though if the Cubs play themselves out of being sellers. Especially now that Belly is out.1 point

So both pitchers are under control for the same period of time (through next season), Fedde has better numbers, and Fedde is on a 2/$15 million deal while Eflin is on a 2/$29 million deal plus he gets $1 million for being traded. Eflin is making exactly twice as much as Fedde. You are so far off here it isn’t even funny. The money on their respective deals is a much bigger deal than you are presuming it to be. The difference is the salary for another good player for next year. Fedde has more trade value than Eflin.1 point

Personally I just hope this doesn't kick start the Cubs who were D.O.A. a week ago.1 point

The way they pitched in 2020 I thought Foster and Heuer were really going to be something, maybe the next tandem like the Sox had in the early 70's with Forster and Gossage.1 point

If the ranking was based on most likely to be traded and most talented combined Fedde may be close to #1. Crochet and Robert aren't the locks to be traded that Fedde is. Plus starting pitching with a lot of good stats with innings under their belt make Fedde very desirable. I doubt his lack of a successful career means much . He's proven himself and the amount of WAR he's accumulated without being a high K guy with the Sox defense behind him is impressive.1 point

Leaving Chicago would help any hitter. They will hit at a guaranteed rate in their new venue.1 point

Point being on a Vaughn to Houston trade is that they have nothing else besides those two. It's gonna be tough for them to make moves this trade deadline. They might have the worst system in the league1 point
