You think Chris Getz made this pick? I know you like to whine about everything, but this ain't it.7 points

There is not a more white sox name than Mike Sirota. Mike Sirotka -> Mike Soroka -> Mike Sirota???6 points

Two of the injuries were fractures of the hamate on each hand. On the plus side he doesn't have anymore hamate bones to fracture so maybe he's done with them. ?5 points

I really don't think this is true. I think with a top 5 pick Shirley and the sox would have really loved a strong up the middle talent, but they didn't exist in this draft, so you had to hope that some hitters that were already trending toward first base were not just a product of juiced balls, or were constantly injured, or were from a state that never produces talent, could fit the bill. Not surprised they just went after a guy that had some obvious ability in the mlb.5 points

I think there should be a hell of a lot more pressure on Marco Paddy than Shirley. Shirley has shown he can bring in an all stars and top 20 prospects without spending $60 million to acquire them. Meanwhile Paddy has all but retired when we need international to supplement so badly.5 points

I know we’re excited about the lefties and Thorpe, but do not sleep on Grant Taylor. He is a very bad man.. third best pitching prospect in the system. Coin flip on who has better stuff, him or Smith.5 points

How can this possibly make sense? They're team options. The team can decline them. Someone please frame for me the argument that these could be seen as "negative value." The buyouts are $2M lol4 points

The history of high draft picks being used on 1B's is incredibly awful. Couple that with some bad chase and swing and miss issues, and I don't think the Sox are the team for him.4 points
-
I would have been fine with Cags but using another top pick on a 1B would have been risky.4 points

You can’t hold guys in the minors forever. If he’s ready in 2025, bring him up. If he’s not ready until 2027, bring him up then. Should the Pirates leave Skenes in AAA? There’s gonna be a helluva competition for rotation spots in the next several years. Hopefully, the Sox pick the right guys.4 points

Harold loves what Getz has done this draft. I guess you guys differ on your opinions of how they drafted so far.3 points

Sox have spent to the pool every year fora while. Having $19 million to spend on players is helpful.3 points

Jimenez feels soreness in his hamstring in the first series after the break but decides to play through the pain. When running to 1st base a few days later, his leg literally falls off. Toward the end of July, after a night of drinking, Getz finds a loophole in his contract and trades himself to the Miami Marlins. The Sox receive Billy the Martin in return. After a barrage of trades, the Sox are desperate for warm bodies and sign Abreu and TA. Jose actually plays well but TA promptly gets into a brawl with Josh Naylor. Naylor absorbs TA like the blob. The Sox, looking to increase attendance, have a half-off campfire milkshake night. The park sells out, but they run out of ice cream in the fourth inning. JR, looking for more money, installs tolls booths at each restroom. The Sox have a new slogan: White Sox Baseball - Bring Quarters, Bitches!3 points

Shirley basically the said the opposite last night and I know it's true in football from coaching. Not a ton of playing time for college freshman due to the transfer portal. If someone is offering you over $1 million to play baseball, you should take it.3 points

Good. Boston matches up well with position player prospects. Meyer/Anthony/Teel. I believe the Sox were fans of Anthony in the draft.3 points

Sox have also had a lot of success on Day 3. Mason Adams, Brooks Baldwin, Burke, Gelanie, Nishida, etc.3 points

Why would you rush Hagen Smith to the bigs if you don't expect to have a competitive team for at least 2-3 years. even if he's ready, why would you start his clock before the team is even good. keep reading that he could be on the team in 2025 or 2026, are you kidding me. If he's dominating the minors, try to extend him to a team friendly deal for like 8+ yrs, at least you've got him for a couple more years I've got bad news for those people who think the Sox are gonna be good in 2 years3 points

I'm just more amazed that this clown was allowed to lose 71 games before the break in his second season as manager and is (as of this angry post) still employed.3 points
-
You literally do no research and just spit out pessimistic bullshit. Go look at what free agents are signing for. Jorge Soler got 3/$42M this offseason….if you think a $20M option for Luis Robert is negative value then you are totally lost.3 points

With their fifth overall pick, Sox selected Hagen Smith, LHP out of Arkansas over power hitter Jac Caglianone and others. Smith was a board favorite after dominating an OSU team that featured first overall pick Travis Bazzana. They then drafted a prep SS Caleb Bonemer before finishing the night with prep lefty Blake Larsen out of IMG academy. Caleb Bonemer was Baseball Americas 36th rated prospect. He made a name for himself by putting on a show turning on velocity for home runs in the summer showcase last year.2 points

Marlins just drafted a guy named Fenwick Trimble. I know nothing about him except his name but I'm willing to bet he has asked someone "Do you know who my father is?" at some point in his life.2 points

if there is a service i'm ok to not be tracking against, it's mlb pipeline (i know callis is very available and nice, but I don't care for their work).2 points

If they are willing to start with Roman Anthony or Marcelo Meyer, they could make a case.2 points

I think this is a fantastic pick. You can never have enough pitching. The other aspect of this is you can flip pitching for quality hitters, you can't do that the other way around in MLB. Build the best pitching staff in the majors or American League and the rest will take care of itself. Now imagine if dumbass Jerry would pony up and pay crochet when time comes. Imagine what this rotation could be........2 points
-
Sheets is who we thought he was. He had a nice stretch, but came right back to his career norms. He might actually have to start worrying about being non-tendered next year, though it's not like the Sox have someone to replace him with.2 points
-
Crochet has been starting for 3 months and is still a massive injury concern. The Sox hit lightning in a bottle here and need to jump on the opportunity to trade him.2 points

The nature of the MLB draft is weird that the combination of cost savings and spending overages means you don't pick your favorite players in the right order. I will be interested to see how many college seniors we pick on Day 2, which sets up Day 3.2 points
-
I will throw out that I mentioned Sirota and Dakota Jordan as college players that fit Sox needs.2 points
-
I'm not saying he's bad, but like if you aren't going 1-1 this year it's unlikely your draft position improves in other drafts.2 points
-
He struck the 1-1 guy out 3 times. Health going forward is all that really matters. If he has it, he's a stud. If he doesn't, well...................College hitters couldn't touch him in the zone.2 points
-
As the centerpiece of a trade for Robert or Crochet? Pass. As the second piece for Fedde? Sure. It's good defense but zero impact so far. You'd think he'd run himself into more doubles and triples. The upside comp is Kenny Lofton. So far, there's a lot of Billy Hamilton.2 points

“I’m shocked to still have a place here but thanks the Getzy and my boy Jerry, there isn’t anything I can do apparently which, you know, would cause me to lose this job. No one expected it but we just have to keep managing and know that one day, we will win. Our history shows that. These guys are professionals. They are fighters.” -Pedro Grifol2 points
