Yeah, last thing they need is to get a crappy 2nd baseman with little control.5 points

You guys are nuts if you think Robert wouldn’t bring back anything of value.5 points

Counterpoint: Isn’t it better to have guys take their lumps now when these games are basically exhibition games for the Sox? The adjustment to mlb pitching has never been harder. A lot of really good prospects really struggle for their first half a season. Both Jacksons, Holliday and Churio, have both gotten their asses kicked at times. I would rather see Baldwin, Quero, Montgomery, maybe even Ramos take their lumps with an offseason to work on stuff than get thrown out in 2025 so the Sox are guaranteed to lose another 120 games. Also, I will point out it was one game.5 points

I’m not concerned about packaging them. No team would pay that price and not many can.4 points

Spencer Jones seems underwhelming. Probably not a coincidence that NYY are suddenly willing to include him when he’s been struggling at AA this year.4 points

Eloy, Sheets and Vaughn have now combined for -.7 fWAR. Impressive. Get these bums out of the fucking starting lineup. I don't care who replaces them. Seriously.3 points

Just checked the box score...I think there is a strong argument to be made that Getz should be fired solely on the basis of giving Brebbia $4 million.....actually $5.5 mill since there is a buyout for that option year.3 points

Best part of bitching about the Sox and seeing how absolutely dogshit they are is when the crappy players play like ass and then we get upset about their trade value. Who the f*** cares if they trade Brebbia or Kopech? Both guys are horrific and won't net the Sox anything of importance. Probably some dickhead who struggles through the minors, maybe OPS's .650 if they ever make the bigs, and one day is forgotten about entirely3 points

Good post, once they trade Crochet and Robert, there is a huge lack of above average talent. Montgomery, even if he improves, was always going to be more of a solid pro than superstar. Another thing to keep in mind is the cupboard is completely empty after this deadline in terms of assets to trade.3 points

Being a Sox fan is so bittersweet. On one hand, I truly believe in Bannister and feel like we could have a quality, home-grown rotation within two years behind Schultz, Smith, Thorpe, Cannon, and one of many other options. And while our bullpen is mostly garbage at the moment, I do think we have enough pitching depth in the minors to build a decent pen pretty quickly. While injuries could derail it all, there are legit reasons to be optimistic on this side of the ball. At the same time, I have little confidence in Getz, Barfield, & Watson to build an entire offense from basically scratch. Montgomery’s struggles against velocity are concerning and if he’s just a guy and not a star that creates a big roadblock for us. And just not a ton after him that you can feel super confident in at the moment other than Quero and to a lesser extent Baldwin. With our latest draft unlikely to provide help anytime soon, it really comes down to trades and free agency. If Getz can kill this trade deadline then the path to competitiveness suddenly becomes much easier, but it’s very hard to trust the evaluators who recommended giving up actual talent for guys like Fletcher & DeLoach. We should know a lot more nine days from now.3 points

The biggest thing the Sox had going for them was that John Allyn had the guts to see things were off the rails, fired basically everyone and brought in Roland Hemond and Chuck Tanner. Things got better in a hurry. That's not going to happen with JR so keeping Crochet and Robert do nothing to really move the needle to being a competent, winning franchise again. So until new ownership arrives, keep getting prospects and hope. That's all you've got right now.3 points

Vaughn 100% needs to go after this season. Zero reason to commit more time on him at this point.3 points

Here's my guess on remaining bonuses: Hagen Smith $8 million Caleb Bonemer $2.8 million Blake Larson $1.4 million Nick McLain $1 million That takes them right to $13.2 million.2 points

It's called baseball man. Look at Julio Rodriguez. He's struggling more than Robert and is getting paid twice as much for three times as long. Some of you guys need to separate your sads around the Sox as an org from the actual players. There's no reason to think Robert isn't highly valued.2 points

Hemond traded his veterans (late 20s; 30s) for younger veterans (mid 20s). The Ken Berry trade was something to behold. He also brought in a great manager and pitching coach.2 points

This is true. It’s almost they decided they wanted McLain, Saucke and Antonacci and did what was necessary to land them all. In the end, it’s 10 players off of the BA 500 plus guys like Shepardson and Fox who could move quickly in relief roles. Lots of teams punted picks this year because there weren’t 10 rounds of players worth slot values. You can still get value out of those picks though. Jordan Appel can help minor league pitchers get better and Phil Fox could move through minors quickly etc. Tim Elko was a “punted pick”. Those guys in 6-10 were basically their picks in 16-20. That’s how you have to look at it.2 points

Your boy Getz did something that only 13 other people in MLB history have done. Build a team that only won 27 of its first 100 games. Can’t waste a year. Great hire. He knew it was the hitting coach keeping this team down last season.2 points

I will say this year I've enjoyed Len and DJ on the radio broadcast more than ever. I've said it before, but the only people watching this Sox team are the sick fucks that actually have a decent knowledge of the team. You can show excitement but don't lie to us about what we are watching. He keeps saying things that don't pass the smell test. And the broadcast isn't the place for your personal retribution. You have no credibility to start with coming from the outside - maybe try to the build it up first.2 points

Okay so I have no idea this year. I was expecting this one to be like $25K. This probably explains a lot.1 point

Davis Martin is off the AAA IL, and is starting games. They appear to be getting him stretched out. He pitched 4 innings yesterday. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=martin023dav&type=pgl&year=2024 Scholtens had TJS in spring training, so he most probably won't start rehabbing until next season.1 point

It doesn't make any sense how bad the offense has been. They could run a Spring Training squad out there and put up more runs.1 point

The Bucs are looking to trade pitching for hitting. If they buy it'll be for their outfield.1 point

Ramos hit the team, sat one day, then started the next 8 games. I imagine Baldwin's up here to play, but if he's clearly overmatched, there's really no reason to watch him strike out 3 times a game for 6 weeks. Development isn't a bumper sticker slogan. Nobody's married to watching a prospect die with an .009 OPS. I feel Baldwin will get a fair shot, and if he's overmatched, they'll ring the bell.1 point

The Tigers are very close to being a contender. They can move him this time next year if things don’t work out next season. That could be this season. They’re not that far out of it now. The Pirates have an interesting young team. Can you imagine crochet on their pitching staff? #1 starting staff in the NL, perhaps in MLB.1 point
-
That is a good point. As much as I think his material plays better with a team that isn’t historically horrible, if they were good, his ass kissing more than likely goes up a few levels. And why is it OK for Schriffen to miss games doing summer league NBA and Jason thrown to the curb for actually doing major sports?1 point

I thought we already know Larson took $1.4M when slot was $1.2M. Edit: According to Locked on White Sox Larson told the Des Moines Register that he knows he'll get AT LEAST $1.4 so it could be more.1 point

I don't work for the Dodgers. So you don't have to treat my words like the Dodger organization came to your house and said what I did. 1) The Dodgers have a small bunch of starting pitchers who aren't 9-inning endurance monsters. So their fan base probably understands stacking the roster with great pitchers who will pitch two months, or two innings at a time. 2) Putting down the batting order once at the beginning of the game isn't "meaningless". Those 6-9 outs are just as valuable early as they are late. 3) Being an opener on a 5 day schedule isn't "being a reliever". And I did mention ramping him back up for the playoffs to a 5-inning starter. 4) If you think that the Dodgers worrying about next year is hilarious, you must piss yourself laughing every time you consider that Ohtani and Yamamoto are signed to multi-year contracts. 5) "Every move should be about winning now" is a silly, meaningless mantra. There are about 4-5 levels of minor leagues that teams invest heavily in that have nothing to do with "winning now". I'll wait until you catch your breath from laughing. So, therefore, picking up a player that is controllable beyond the current season is seen as added value. Giggle yourself silly, now. 6) I'm guessing that a team that has been in the postseason the last 11 seasons will be able to "help themselves from injuring their players" in the last week of the playoffs. And if Crochet is properly ramped up, there's probably no real problem with him throwing an inning in game 7 of the World Series.1 point

I know, but not giving up Spencer Jones for Crochet as well is ridiculous.1 point
