He hired Brian Bannister and made multiple outside hires. Signed Erick Fedde who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. He’s likely to get something for Tommy Pham and Paul Dejong. They already got something for Robbie Grossman. They waited out the market on Dylan Cease and did well on the return. We have no idea if he overpaid on the draft but only the first rounder is influenced much by the GM. Who have they lost on waivers etc that should still be here? I’m sorry but I don’t think it fits at all.7 points

I was coming here hoping a birdie would drop what was written. Heartening to see. Terrified to see Getz trade.4 points

Julks is bad. The real travesty is Colas is not getting any at bats in a completely lost season.3 points

If they aren't, the White Sox are in deep, deep, DEEP trouble. Their top position player prospects took steps back this year, or at least didn't take any steps forward. if they aren't trading for these guys, they have nothing on the horizon which is going to cover all of those holes.3 points

I'm in your camp - he has spent a lot of time churning and we can see what he threw out, but at same time we have seen potential wins. Fedde is a huge win and they should get great value for him at the deadline. DeJong and Pham are both going to get value and Grossman got them something. I also think moving Cease when they did worked out well and early returns on Thorpe are positive and we'll see what happens with the rest. But part of the Cease piece is, strategically, I don't think taking the long bet with pitching when you have good offers on the table is a smart move. The risk of injury (regardless of track record) is high, so to me the risk you get 0 vs. 90 cents on the dollar (and even that is debatable) drives me to make the deal vs. the added risk. For example - on Crochet, I would be working every angle to prevent him from making another start. I am so worried when he takes the mound that he'll have a tweak or something pops up. If it does - we go from getting at least 2 top 100 guys (conservatively) to basically being back at square one. Given long-term view of the franchise - that is a risk I'm not willing to take.3 points

There has been nothing about Getz tenure in his 11 months so far that looks anything different than the previous one, except he completely lacks the patience to wait out a move or a plan. I see it in the Cease deal, the roster churning losing young players who could have helped the team this year in favor of guys we ended up releasing anyway, and even the draft seemingly overpaying guys they didn't need to so as compared to the rest of MLB. Maybe that changes over time, but I haven't seen it so far.3 points

It is really amazing this dope doesn't get canned. The amount of games they lose that they should have won, and even could have won, is amazing. It just keeps happening. Hire someone who demands victory. They would absolutely still suck without Pedro, but they would be better.3 points

Getz has that GM of the year award just about locked up.2 points

Does anyone need any further proof? Guy can’t even keep up with the game. https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/b060acb2-3c9a-4916-8a28-89bd2de3a894.mp42 points

Maybe we could confuse a team looking for tanner scott2 points

I like the idea, I'm going to be bold and say Robert and Crochet are on the White Sox for the rest of the season (traded in the winter)2 points

He was still throwing 96. What are you talking about?2 points

Or maybe the moves are made by a couple of individuals that are bad at scouting players and also don’t understand the way baseball is played now and want to model a team after the way they played?2 points
-
Be upset all you want. The people who present every single move in the worst light just to feed their narrative get tiresome. The team sucks. It's painful to watch. I don't need to be spoon fed some conspiracy about how every move is designed to save money, or make the team worse, or results from panic, or whatnot.2 points

Not being upset..totally fine Acting like others shouldn’t be upset and trying to pretend like things are trending in right direction…that irks me. Not referring to you fwiw2 points

Not a conspiracy. That area is so small and congested, it would have been an easy shot2 points

Yes, but with a payroll at $227M, they don't have much room to work with moving forward. If I was them, I'd cash in now in a sellers market on a pitcher who has an inconsistent track record and clear $18M off the books. Then let Hendricks and his $16.5M walk in the offseason and they have a decent chunk of change to work with to actually address some their team needs.2 points

I read it as nothing because Morosi is bad and just tweets whatever all of the time.2 points

I've never heard of a single time Reinsdorf has ever told them to take a certain player. He lets them do their job.2 points

Haha if they weren't going to do it when Harper was there for the taking, they won't do it now.2 points

Agreed. Hopefully, some of the advanced college bays they drafted aren't too far away.2 points

I think you can build an offense through free agency but it is harder to build pitching (especially JR style) through free agency.2 points

I don’t think we have a clue who Chris Getz is yet as a GM, it’s just too early. However we may begin to have a better feel after we see his returns before next Tuesdays deadline if/when he moves Crochet, Fedde, Robert, etc.2 points

I don't understand this take. On pace for an over 4 fWAR season. Sub 3 ERA. Baseball reference somehow has Fedde on pace for more like 6.5 WAR (4.7 currently, behind only Skubal in the AL). Controlled for another season at a super cheap $7.5M. Fedde should return a very nice prospect (40-75 range), plus a supporting piece in a club's top 10.2 points

Skubal is far more valuable in a trade than Crochet. While Crochet has been dominant this year so has Skubal. And while Skubal, has his own durability issues, he has a much more proven track record as a starter and is also better positioned to log innings down the stretch vs. Crochet. Not saying Skubal is the better pitcher when healthy - but both are very good healthy and if I were a team and I had my choice and the price was the same -> I would take Skubal vs. Crochet. With that said - I'm not sure Tigers are really that serious in moving him, unless of course they can get an absolute haul and it would have to be the type of haul they think would drive immediate value (meaning high end prospects that are either in the majors or near the majors). I'm thinking a package around Holliday + high end pitching prospect (if I use Oriole's as an example).2 points

I see the O's going for Fedde instead of trading their better prospects (Holliday, Kjerstad, Basallo, Mayo, etc) for Crochet. Something like Norby, Beavers, and another piece or two feels right.2 points

Incredibly weird gimmick you've got going on about him.2 points

Because guys with better stuff cost more. Basically every acquisition was a project including Fedde. If anyone else truly thought Fedde would be any good he wouldn't have signed with the Sox.1 point

Makarewicz is really good. He absolutely raked this year for NC State. ”A-Mak had one of the best offensive seasons in NC State history. He finished with the most Total Bases EVER in a single season, with the 4th most Home Runs & Doubles. He also earned multiple All-American honors, as well as 2nd Team All-ACC honors. Makarewicz, who transferred from ECU last offseason, hit .378, with 24 Home Runs, 25 Doubles, 84 RBI’s, 66 Runs, with an OPS of 1.191.“1 point

Think of it this way: Jason is calling Team USA games right now. Would NBC trust John Schriffen to do that?1 point

Jason is really, really, really good at what he does. It took me hearing him with other guys and some time to really appreciate his style, but he is one of the best there is.1 point
