Im very interested in seeing the lineup. Is this actual change, or is it going to be the same horeshit we've seen all season. Theres no way Grady Sizemore, as a former OFer, can look at Sheets and say "Yeah, this is my RFer".7 points

Fair point. I just think writing off Drew Thorpe is stupid. I need to take a break from this hellscape I think.7 points

Dumb thing to say, dumber thing to actually do. Let him have an offseason after his first ever season of "failure" as an athlete. See how he responds. Don't throw this on his plate now.5 points

Credit for the 1B / DH playing 1B / DH though.5 points

I am amazed at how many Sox fans seem to be better at professional scouting than the guys the Sox are actually paying to do it.5 points

Getz fired his manager because he thought he had a roster that should win more games. yes Pedro and his idiot friends suck. But Getz is the GM for a team that may be historically bad. For that, he deserves the same fate he gave Pedro.4 points

Reminder: A couple months ago we had like a 10 page thread where people said trading some guy named Luis Rodriguez (that no one had ever heard of) for Corey Julks was a fireable offense for Getz. More recently, there are people jizzing over Luke Keaschall just because we didn't trade for him. In this thread, we have the same people that relentlessly mocked WestEddy for crediting the Sox with developing Seby Zavala's defense switch to praising Zavala's defensive value. Some are accusing Getz of forcing Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams (!) to hire Pedro Grifol while at the same time claiming Jerry picks all the managers. There are a million things to criticize the Sox about. Minor moves made by Chris Getz in his first 10 months as a GM in a season where he inherited a s%*# team and needed to cut payroll is pretty far down the list.4 points

If people read what I actually said, and not what they thought I said or wanted me to say, then it would be easy to see I'm not a Getz apologist. I'm just trying to be realistic about what's possible in one season with an organization this bad and not whip myself into a pointless frenzy of negativity.4 points

Boy, it must suck for Robert knowing that Nicky Lopez is 10x more dangerous at the plate than him right now3 points

It’s one of the weirdest moves I’ve ever seen a player make. Just dumb. And now it’s gonna bite him in the ass because he will probably be stuck here.3 points

Lol why is Getz turned away from Stone when he is responding to him? Its not that tight in the booth.3 points

I think I’d rather have our manager starting in RF. ?3 points

No that was directly at you, I have no problem with that. You have been mind numbing consistent in your attempt at some sort of forum martyr so I just don’t care anymore. I care even less since you tried to break board rules to come back3 points

IMO, nothing wrong with supporting the guy or hoping he does well, but Getz doesn’t need people coming to his aide to defend him to make people respect him. He needs a record of success to do that. Not a move here and there that happens to work out…we’re talking a prolonged span of success where the franchise returns to its winning ways will be needed to redefine him. He doesn’t really have ANY history of success to refer to now. As of now, he only has a prolonged record of failures to show for his time in the GM role (and other roles) —so he (and JR) deserve the criticism and his defenders don’t have much to stand on. Don’t like it? Turn it around! Start proving people wrong. Start winning—consistently. Don’t rely on others’ narratives to do your bidding. People will come around then. If he’s good, we should be SEEING it—no need to be CONVINCED of it.3 points

Who would be a good choice for leadoff hitter? They all suck.3 points

There was no one out there to improve this roster by any substantial degree, unless you pipe dream about guys like Ohtani. I looked. We got improvement at SS and starting pitching and are break even pretty much with every other new player, and still are 20 games worse. I'm also not on a crusade to defend Getz, but god damn its frustrating when asking simple questions about who they should have signed or traded for, or spending time to show that the major differences on this roster are all due to large downgrades from existing players, results in "Getz apologist!" or bizarre arguments about signing or retaining guys who offer so little value over what they have, that you couldn't even win 20 more games if you "upgraded" 20 positions on the 26 man roster this way.3 points

One of the weirdest things I've seen on here, which is saying something. The most losses in franchise history was 106. Last year they lost 101 for the first time since 1970. Getz is going to lose twenty+ more games than that. It's unbelievable. The Sox have had some awful teams and yet he destroyed them all. People keeping saying the difference between this guy and Getz guy is .5, .3, etc WAR. Yeah people, no one is saying the previous sox were good or would he good. They lost the most games since 1970. Were saying Chris getz made a terrible team into a team so embarrassing that I have not been to a game. Haven't taken my son to his first game because this team is a literal embarrassment to the sport. Haven't watched a full game in months - I wouldn't miss a game in an 82 win season. Chris getz called out last years team. Then made them look like the 27 Yankees comparatively.3 points

It’s very clear based on Getz’s press conference yesterday that they don’t have any intention of competing next year.3 points

Getz had 4 of 8 positions to upgrade. He was stuck with 3 contracts, and a #3 overall pick. Lets look at each position: C - He replaced Grandal with Maldonado as a sop to Grifol to help with clubhouse issues. Maldonado was a lateral move, but Lee/Maldonado was better than Grandal/Lee as a catching duo. 1B - I'd argue Getz had to give Vaughn a full year to step up. He regressed, both offensively and defensively. 2B - Has has been mentioned, this was a lateral move. Lopez is probably better defensively, worse offensively than Elvis. 3B - Yoan is a great defensive player, got injured 11 games in. Ramos was probably a slight step down, Sosa/Mendick were much worse. It's hard to upgrade from Yoan. SS - DeJong was an obvious upgrade from Anderson. LF - Benintendi regressed. CF - Robert was injured. It's hard to replace his defensive production, even with an injured Luis Robert. RF - Fletcher/Pillar was an upgrade from Colas/Sheets of 2023, defensively. Even Pham was an upgrade. So when you're arguing that Getz failed in his main pursuit, 3 regulars regressed, defensively, one was injured. Of the 4 positions he could improve, Getz improved all 4, defensively. The regression of the 4 holdover positions dragged down the overall team ratings.3 points

Heard from a long time friend and source late last night who has been around the Sox for years. He just passed along some thoughts on the changes and the individuals involved. Some of them seem to show some promise...let's hope so: "Grifol - held mandatory BP before every game starting with the last three games of the first half until his firing." "Montoyo - nice guy still gun shy from his firing in Toronto, never spoke to White Sox media." "Tosar - Grifol friend from Miami days, another KC refugee" "Rodriguez - offense was so bad that Eddie never got a chance to show why he was the worst third base coach I ever covered." "Bourgeois- should have been reprimanded after taking a batter off to take a dump. Lots of runners got picked off." "Barfield - Sox had their choice of Jake McCarthy or Dominic Fletcher. Barfield, who came from the DBacks, chose Fletcher. How’s that working out?" "Gene Watson - THE WORST! Glorified spy for Dayton Moore in KC, would have been fired last September had Getz not hired him. He scouts all over the country for players the Sox have no chance of signing. Knack for posing with celebrities or famous ballplayers and putting them on his social media account. Spent more time on the KC side during a three-game series at Guaranteed Rate, bothering the hell out of Bobby Witt Jr. during pregame BP to talk to Gene’s guests. Already has Levine and Merkin wrapped around his finger. Known as a consensus scout who can’t form an original evaluation." "Katz is tied to Bannister, so he’s safe." "As for the new coaches, Doug Sisson is a red ass who should have been hired years ago just to get in the faces of Grandal, Moncada, Anderson, etc." "The sudden rise of Mike Gellinger, who Konerko adored. Gellinger makes so much money that Cleveland wanted to hire him but couldn’t match the money."3 points

You’re right. Drew Thorpe sucks. Chris Getz got fleeced. The Sox are fucked and we should all stop paying attention. Hey now I fit right in.3 points

Didn’t Colas get scratched yesterday? Get him up here and DFA Sheets. It probably doesn’t mean the needle much (if at all), but let’s get the 1B out of the OF for on e3 points

We talk about how bad the Beni signing was. 15 million per year for 5 years. But I happened to see a guy I forgot got a huge deal that make ours look pretty decent. Anthony Rendon might go down as one of the worst signings ever. 7 years 245 million. He has 22 HRs in 5 years so far, only 850ABs. Beni has 17 hrs and almost 900 ABs. He has produced a 1.6 WAR. Rendon is making 38 million per year this year and the next 2. Then there is Kris Bryant, 17 HRs in 3 years and they have him for 27 million per year for 4 more years after this one. So I was wondering how many other contracts are out there way worse than AB's.2 points

It also meant the San Diego Padres saw him as worth being part of a Soto trade for, and not some of their other more toolsy guys.2 points
-
Well technically his FIP was 4.2 during that stretch and his ERA was actually three runs better ? And I don’t necessarily disagree with anything you’re saying, but it seems a bit premature to say a guy with one elite pitch and Brian Bannister at his side can’t improve and/or add to his repertoire. I do disagree with the “two teams traded him” comment though. He was traded for Juan Soto and Dylan Cease…that context obviously matters and should support a value case more than deny it.2 points

I'm not drawing conclusions on Vargas, although concerned a little bit for the same reason his stock has dipped a bit. Thorpe is a pretty easy evaluation imo. I look over into the twins dugout and I see his ceiling sitting there in Chris Paddack and Paddacks fastball has always been better than thorpes even though it's also trash. Paddack fooled the league for his first trip through with an elite change up and then became what every other one pitch starter becomes.2 points

Not sure what my post has to do with Getz. Deciding how the careers of Thorpe and Vargas will turn out feels like a waste of energy is all.2 points

Jeff Keppinger says “don’t forget about me good sir” im really looking at Keps numbers and lmao, he got to -1.7 WAR and didn’t even finish the season, I think they ate a 3 year deal too didn’t they2 points

The last Mike Trout contract is going to be there.2 points

I don’t get the Thorpe hate at all. It’s one thing to have wanted a higher ceiling and/or positional headliner for Cease, but Thorpe was pitching very well before his injury as a rookie and was generating incredibly weak contact. Two bad starts, while likely injured, doesn’t really change the fact he looks like a sure fire major league starter. Whether that’s a #3 or a #4 remains to be seen, but I’m very optimistic he sticks and is a regular 2+ win player.2 points
-
Nope. It’s too early to make a determination on either guy. I’ll trust Brian Bannister on Drew Thorpe rather than giving up after 41 big league innings or whatever it’s been.2 points
-
No it’s not. They dumped all the Pedro guys. I think Katz will be safe with Bannister in tow going forward. Well that’s a Jerry decision. I think Getz would’ve launched Grifol awhile ago. Do you disagree with all the prospect publications who had him as a top 50 prospect in baseball?2 points
