  1. Sorry, no improvements for next year....can't afford new players with prices coming down.

  2. They’re more like diarrhea. You know, because of the runs.

  3. Schriffen: “Isn’t it amazing how quickly a game can change?” No John, not when you’re a White Sox fan.

  4. It's still the same shitty bullpen. The manager doesn't matter when everyone sucks.

  5. Stone hasn't been a good partner in a long time as an announcer. He's short, he's combative, and if he doesn't feel like it, he refuses to do his job and fill time. Gordon Beckham has been a way better partner as he is willing to fill the air when John asks questions, and tell stories when the situation dictates.

  6. Stone Pony is such a flake. He blamed the team’s suckitude for contemplating retirement but is coming back anyways to milk Jerry’s teat for another year. Watch The Legend go right back to saying how much promise this young team will have for next year. ? ?

  7. Jason Benetti would have fixed Luis Robert. Huh. I have literally no idea how to process this information.

  8. When you have "baseball-stupid" players plus an organization that apparently doesn't know how to teach fundamentals nor hold people accountable when they continually mess up, this is what you get.

  9. Burger wasn't traded to the Marlins, he was donated. Eder? Come on.
    3 points
  10. He is cheap offense. Something this team desperately needs. Instead, the Sox have a soon to be 26 year old with a 10.00 ERA in AAA.
    3 points
  11. You can always tell when he is hot, because the threads come back. Nothing was said for months when he had a Benitendi like OPS.

  12. Jake Burger has 0.7 bWAR on the year. This includes this stretch for the last 28 days where he has had a 1.200 OPS. If he wasn't traded last deadline, he would have been traded this off-season/deadline. If he wasn't traded this deadline, he would have been traded next off-season/deadline. There is no scenario, ever, where Jake Burger is a building block for this team. 100 loss teams don't keep or build around 28 year old DH's.

  13. The bigger question is why do the Sox let front office guys they are about to fire dictate their trade deadline moves? Kenny traded Burger for Eder last trade deadline and then Kenny was fired three weeks later. Mike Tosar recommended Miguel Vargas and then Tosar was fired a week after the trade deadline. Sure seems a bit strange to me.

  14. How many threads do we need crying about the Burger trade?

  15. Just keeps getting worse annd worse. He would be leading our team in average, hrs, rbis right now. He now has 11 HRs in his last 17 games. Not too mention he is the best clubhouse guy we had. And we traded him for a middle of the road prospect coming back from injury. How many years of control did we have?

  16. Davis Martin has been at least one bright spot coming back from injury. He might stick in the rotation next year. Next year's staff might be serviceable at least. Crochet, Thorpe, Cannon, Martin all appear to competent major league pitchers so far and all are young with lots of control. Imagine if games were only 6 innings long, we might have won 60 games this eyar.

  17. Rick Hahn assembled better bullpens. This is not a compliment to Hahn. Fire Getz.
    2 points
  18. Fletcher with quite literally the 2 best defensive plays we've seen all year and that's not exaggerating. Run scores anyways

  19. Can't stand either one of them. Haven't watched a game in weeks because they are so bad. They are worse than the team is.

  20. Whether we end up 2-3 or 1-4 after tonight since Grady took over, you have to admit this team looks way better.

  21. Nicky Lopez is a 74 OPS+ hitter. People should be talking about his offensive production, but more in terms of why he is still on a major league roster.

  22. Sox fans really don't understand how good we have it with Stone.

  23. Bro, what did you copy?
    2 points
  24. If you want to argue the right move, that was probably to get rid of Vaughn and put Burger at 1B. Burger would have played better defense at 1B than Vaughn and certainly would have hit for more power.

  25. He wouldn't really help this team nor it's trajectory in anyway but at least the dude was likeable. Can't say the same for nearly most of this roster.
    2 points
  26. Cheap DH offense on a team that already had a few DHs. Free swinging, low OBP, no glove, bad bodied RHH aren't going to help the Sox become a better team. Eder has not been good, but focusing on his 16 innings in AAA to conclude that is what he is moving forward is stupid.

  27. I will never understand why Jake was traded.

  28. So we still got Wild Card

  29. 4.2 oWAR in the last 1.5 years. 57 HRs and 132 rbis. I will take that. I would say the numbers show he is actually good. He had 4 years of control left. Why trade him? He was going into his supposed prime years. Without the missed omit time this year he might hit 40hrs. And he makes 750k this year

  30. Just because he would be the best we would have doesn't mean he is actually good.

  31. Eder was a rule 5 candidate roster fodder that we traded a good position player for, something we haven't been able to develop in basically a decade. It was a horrible trade at the time that basically no one defended and looks just as bad now.

  32. No one move can change the Sox situation so that's kind of CPT.Obvious stuff. The Sox have to makes dozens or scores of correct moves which seems impossible while JR prepares for his heirs to sell the Sox . He was incapable of making these moves even in his heyday. Never cared about infrastructure to support and develop youth. He reduces upper managements chances to succeed by trying to build a contender from a series of moves that must need to have a 80 % success rate from working in the margins like Williams managed to do prior to the 2005 season. You need like 10 or more of your 26 man roster to have career or near career years. Kenny Williams probably deserves a lot more credit than we give him for somehow doing the impossible under JR.

  33. And if the Sox really want to take a chance on Eloy again, they can bid on him as a free agent in 3ish months, just like everyone else.

  34. Jake Burger is not the solution to what ails this team. Trade hasn't aged well to date, but its not a trade that is going to sting long term.

  35. Jake Burger is 28 years old. He'll be well over 30 by the time the Sox are hopefully competitive. But thank you for dragging me into the surreal frontal cortex of your brain

  36. NBC Sports is now clowning the Getz and the Sox on this trade… “Jake McCarthy went 3-for-5 and knocked in two runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth, to propel the Diamondbacks to a 4-3 win over the Rockies on Tuesday. This is getting a little ridiculous now. McCarthy, who spent most of last year looking like one of the league’s easiest outs, is hitting .311/.380/.438 in 325 plate appearances. The White Sox reportedly could have acquired McCarthy in the Cristian Mena deal last winter and chose Dominic Fletcher instead. Fletcher, in case you were wondering, is currently hitting .216/.283/.268 in the majors.”

  37. Burger still had value last trade deadline due to his HR power. Yet, we got a pitcher for him who can’t even maintain an ERA under 5 in the minors.
    1 point
  38. lol @ the people saying he is average. His 1100 OPS since July 1st says otherwise. He had a nagging injury during the spring but now hes back to his old self and improving even. Meanwhile we have Jake Eder: 5 ERA in AA 10 ERA in AAA

  39. He was crushing Moncada’s sprint speeds, even…I mean, how is that even humanly possible?

  40. Maybe Eder is the type of guy this franchise needs to take a chance on and Burger was what it took to get hkm....however at the time I was really pissed because they traded away a guy who was hitting for power and absolutely the only guy on the team that busted his ass hustling every night. It still feels like a big F U to the fans as Hahn/Kenny were headed out the door.

  41. Literally the worst in 125 years, going back to 1900

  42. He has a -1.6 WAR and a.629 OPS. He basically had eight hot games. How bad is this team that we are resorting to getting excited over two series worth of bats?
    1 point
  43. Its not that we traded him its that we gave him away when his value was at its lowest. But hey, we'll replace him with a soft-tossing veteran with no value and no future value. It's the sox way.

  44. He has 0.6 WAR. My guess if Eloy manages to stay healthy we are going to regret that deal much more more than Burger.

  45. The Guardians currently have the best record in baseball. They started the season with a payroll $50 million less than the White Sox payroll.
    1 point
  46. Burger’s OPS is now up to .775 on the season and his career OPS is at .798. Meanwhile, Eder has an ERA over 6 in Charlotte and we pray that Vargas can sniff Burger’s numbers.

  47. Getz essentially burned $24 million in a fire pit this past offseason. That’s pretty much Bryce Harper’s annual salary. Brebbia - $5.5 million Maldonado - $4.5 million Lopez - $ 4.3 million Soroka - $3 million Clevinger - $3 million Hill - $1.8 million Flexen - $1.75 million There is also the awful trade for Dominic Fletcher that cost Christian Mena, and the fact that Getz/Barfield chose Fletcher as the return over .800 OPS Jake McCarthy. The trade for Bailey Horn, whom was later dumped for cash. DFA’ing Romy González and Declan Cronin. DFA’ing Kevin Pillar too early. I’m sure there’s more, but those are the ones I remember.
