Tommy Pham needed playing time so they could basically get nothing in return for him.7 points

Slide rules only. No more transistor-based devices allowed in front offices. Physical paper spreadsheets only. Want a computer? Fine. Enjoy the fucking vacuum tubes, mechanical relays, and ticker tape, you damn nerds.6 points

They are considering this to increase offense. Instead, why don’t they just impose a 90 mph speed limit? Throw harder than that, you get a ticket..5 points

This is idiotic. Teams have found non-traditional tactics to win games, and the league’s response is to say, “No, there’s only one right way to win a baseball game.” Sports should welcome a diversity of skills and strategies, imho.5 points

One day, the Sox will upgrade to Windows 2000 and half their scouts will lose jobs.5 points

Grifol did almost as much damage to the org as Hahn/Haber and boy that's hard to believe.5 points

What about the GM who traded Mena for Dominic Fletcher instead of the better outfielder offered by the Dbacks in Jake McCarthy, and who could only get back Vargas as a headliner in return for Fedde and Kopech?4 points

The only proper way to approach this is ridicule and you have risen to the task. Thx guys.3 points

When I first read about the potential rule, I thought WTF? But now that I see the exceptions, I think it's a decent proposal. It seems to me, though, that this may come into play more early in the season and late in the season. Guys like Crochet would have to be shut down, sent to AAA, or relegated to the bullpen. It's not uncommon for teams to manage innings for pitchers coming back from injury or to save their arms for the playoffs.3 points

Not to mention how much of the season Fletcher was in AAA anyway. Newsflash, the manager isn't responsible for roster moves.3 points

Good that the Schriff will be back. Just last night he was telling us how great of an offensive season Nicky Lopez was having, and on a fly ball to right , said it was a fly ball to left. There's been 3 or 4 times recently he didn't know the score. Note to Brooks. Hire a PBP guy that gives the listeners credit enough for knowing they are watching a baseball game.3 points

Only took until the middle of August to get Fletcher on the field. Good work fellas.2 points

I disagree. Analytics can provide a team and it’s players with the statistics, best probability, etc., but players still have to successfully employ the strategy that the analytics are telling them and the opposition of course has the ability to counter. Humans are not robots. If the analytics say to pound a guy low and inside with sliders, the pitcher still has to hit his spots and the batter can lay off of those pitches and draw a walk, or the batter can hit a mistake pitch out of the park.2 points

I honestly was trying to think of a rule around sports that was similar, but I cannot think of one.2 points

telling teams how they can and can't use their pitchers without being punished is insane. this is an order of magnitude more disruptive than anything they've changed in the last few years. it is a complete non starter (pun intended).2 points

You're right, it's hard to believe, because it's utter nonsense. I know the powers that be want to pin it all on Pedro. Get real. The manager makes a 2-3 game difference at best and if the powers that be wanted "their guys" playing more you know they were free to call him into their office and/or fire him long before August.2 points

Yep, and when Stone Pony isn’t being a dick to and trolling his partner, he is being the ultimate company man. As big of a homer Hawk was, he would still get upset about stupid plays and call out dumb baseball. The Legend hasn’t called out a team since the 2004 Cubs. He learned to fall in line after losing that gig for his comments and has become the ultimate company man with the Sox under Jerry.2 points

There really isn't. In terms Jr can understand, every year he is the GM is a wasted year.1 point

I fell asleep after Anderson got out of the 6th with the Sox leading 2-1. God does the bullpen suck.1 point

McCarthy (2.7 fWAR), Bart (1.1 fWAR) and Robles (1.1 fWAR) would each qualify as the best hitter on the Sox this year. Take them instead of Fletcher, Maldonado and Julks and maybe you're not staring down the barrel of being the worst of all time. Hell, maybe having just three non-god awful bars in the lineup lifts all boats from the ocean depths.1 point

Davis Martin has been at least one bright spot coming back from injury. He might stick in the rotation next year. Next year's staff might be serviceable at least. Crochet, Thorpe, Cannon, Martin all appear to competent major league pitchers so far and all are young with lots of control. Imagine if games were only 6 innings long, we might have won 60 games this eyar.1 point

I am looking over Fletcher and Mccarthy and cant understand why we would pick DF. Mccarthy had performed much better, was the same age, has a lot of speed that Fletcher doesnt have. Tore up AAA and did well in the majors so far. So why choose Fletcher. Just another bad move. They need to do the George Costanza approach and do the opposite of whatever they are thinking in the future.1 point

Never liked him when he was with the Cubs and didn't change when he moved over. He's just so smarmy. He's got a voice that just makes you want to clock him.1 point

Yep. Burger is already 2 for 2 tonight against the Phillies. He’s up to a .255 AVG and .783 OPS. At least Getz can’t be blamed for the Burger trade, as it was supposedly all Kenny’s idea. However, Getz could have improved this team in the short and longer term had he traded for Jake McCarthy instead of Dominic Fletcher, and acquired both Victor Robles and Joey Bart, which would have cost barely anything. But Getz refused to give up on Maldonado early, when every Sox fan watching knew he was done. That’s three good starting position players that Getz could have acquired in-season for next to nothing, and this putrid season was the exact time to do it.1 point

There are areas of the city that are incredibly violent, but they apparently don’t count because the city is so big and there are nice areas that barely see violence. So the people living in those nice areas can pretend the “war zones” don’t exist.1 point

I'm always amazed at how fast these later rounds go. When I do fantasy drafts with 11 other guys and a much smaller player pool, there's a million instances of "Wait, did X get picked?" and taking more time than needed... Granted, we are talking about large staffs of serious prepared people, not a dozen drunk guys... but its still impressive.1 point

Man. Imagine Crochet, Schultz, Smith in a rotation. Shame they won't extend Crochet.1 point
