  1. What on earth was Grifol thinking playing Sheets in RF everyday. My god he was an idiot.

  2. Greg: Respectfully I think it's time to stop with the act. Very few Sox fans that I know of "embrace tanking and encourage rebuilding." Unless you are willing to buy the team when JR passes away and then invest another 300-400 hundred million on acquiring talent, there is nothing else that can be done to try to turn things around. Period. End of story. JR is NOT going to spend the money needed to compete, JR is NOT going to stop hiring people he knows and who'll kiss his ass and he is NOT going to invest a strong minor league system. You know it, I know it and JR knows it. So please stop with this narrative. Under the circumstances as I and others have stated before, there is NOITHING ELSE that can be done under the limitations from ownership to try to compete but acquire as much young, cheap talent as possible and hope they work out. That doesn't mean at all I and others, "embrace tanking and encourage rebuilding" but the reality is there is simply NOTHING ELSE that can be done under the existing circumstances. Nothing. You ask why can't the Sox compete in a division they should be dominating based on market size, population et al? You know the answer to that question.

  3. Agreed! I've been a Sox fan longer than most alive and have never experienced this kind of disgusting & diabolical operation of a sports entity. I'm not even aware that its ever existed to this magnitude. The only similar experience was the Arthur & Bill Wirtz Blackhawks. This is much, much worse as is Reinsdorf though they were all chiseled from the same heartless mold. Their only true love is greedy & miserly wealth.

  4. Vargas so far, as he gave up a big time legit trade piece for him. Still can’t believe they basically pulled a Burger-Eder trade, but this time with a hitting coach they were about to fire.

  5. Let’s be honest, Pedro was the worst manager in baseball history.

  6. Honestly? I would trade Crochet for a top notch GM in a heartbeat. Granted I don't think Dayton Moore is that guy, but I wouldn't hesitate to do it for an actually good front office head.

  7. He was one of the biggest failures of the rebuild. He was supposed to be a superstar Frontline starter. Instead he failed at that, then failed at relieving, even revealing that he refused to listen to coaching. I couldn't care less about the rest of it. I won't ever root for the guy.

  9. What in the ever living Christ was that by Vaughn? That pitch was never a strike and it literally bounced before the batters box. Ugly

  10. I do think IF you do this, it has to have years of runway to prevent injuries.

  11. That's just it. No one knows. Even if the team picks up some good young players, no one can guess on their progress. I don't understand how this organization can expect fans to be optimistic with the way things are. I am not into constant rebuilding.

  12. Grady sending Robert to steal second while down by three runs late in the game was foolish and Beckham noted that. Not sure if Sizemore is an effective baseball strategist but whatever, the franchise, as it is, lacks sufficient major league talent at all levels to field a competitive major league team. When Colson Montgomery, the Sox no. 1 prospect, is floundering in the Minors, one wonders how many years it will take to build a competitive roster. Sox Ownership and Management have damaged the franchise irrevocably and cast aside generations of fans who have grown sick and tired of supporting them.

  13. It has been that kind of year. 2025 will be no different.

  14. Bottom line is Grifol was a horrible manager of a horrible baseball team put together by a horrible GM who answers to a horrible owner.

  15. Yep, just like how they aren’t supposed to practice all summer either. It’s completely optional. 🤣

  16. I totally agree and you can blame the ossified owner for it.

  17. Who cares about the shutout record when you can set the most embarrassing MLB record of all time?

  18. He honestly either doesn't care or doesn't want to care. This shtick has been going on forever.

  19. Greg, they’re not rebuilding because the fans want them to. They’re doing it because the situation is so fucked up that rebuilding is the only way out other than spending a fucking ton of money. And most fans know that this ownership isn’t going to spend a fucking ton of money, so the only option is to hope they get lucky in rebuilding. Unfortunately, they screw everything up, so they’re likely do screw up the rebuild. It’s basically a no-win situation.

  21. I think the sad fact is that the Sox can’t (won’t) win spending money and they can’t win by rebuilding. It will probably just be years of mediocrity until they get lucky like 2005 and everything clicks.

  22. I think if Grady has anything even resembling success the rest of this year he should use that to try and find a job elsewhere.

  25. No bats. Another series the Sox somehow win one game then drop the rest. Weird. Is this Bush guy this good? Is he a guarantee starter next year? Luis Robert needs to go. Let him be Tatis for another team. Three more Ks for Robert. Must be nice to make a zillion dollars and all you have to do is swing for the fences every at bat. Strike out most of the time but occasionally knock one out. I will say he's a fluid center fielder but he's no Chet Lemon. Pretty bad when you'd rather have the guaranteed numbers of a Chet Lemon for a career over Robert.

  30. Development models are a big issue though. You can’t be super conservative with your minor league pitchers and then expect them to go 6 innings in the majors. Offense is bad though because pitchers are awesome now. Unless pitchers somehow get worse, hitters will continue to struggle.

  34. Some notes from today's slate: Tommy Vail had been great (0.65ERA in 18IP entering today) after a promotion to WS, but he left today's start in the first with an injury. Nothing that looked visually obvious. Jeral Perez looks like a good get. Solid at SS, went 2-3 with a 2B, 3B, and BB today. Wilfred Veras is locked in. A HR today for his second in 3 games. Slashing .328/.409/.534 through 58 August ABs. Sean Burke should taste the majors soon. Adisyn Coffey in 6IP this month: 1ER, 10K, 2BB, 2/2 saves. Finally, don't let Smith being nasty distract you from the fact that he's not even our top LHP prospect. Schultz finished 3.2IP/0ER without his best stuff today. He had to (and did) pitch out of second and third no outs in the first after a HBP and BB, which cost him some precious pitch count.

  35. You're exactly correct there is no hope until new ownership arrives. And I believe this is the 18th straight game the Sox have lost that Flexen has started.

  40. The hope for a White Sox comeback begins 5 years after JR has passed and Getz is fired. Until both things happen, the Sox will NEVER see .500. And even that's no guarantee. Go Bears! Go Hawks!

  41. I wouldn't be surprised if the new international director is an internal hire and it wouldn't be a bad thing.
    1 point
  42. That was Hahn’s hire. I’m sure Getz spoke highly of Grifol and pushed for him during that whole process but Hahn had final say. I’m also sure that Getz probably would fired Pedro way sooner if Jerry allowed him to. The key thing is that Getz changed his mind and admitted the hire was a mistake.

  44. I saw Norby this weekend in Jacksonville against the Phillies AAA team. He was 1-5 with a soft single and 2 strikeouts. Had trouble with spin - chased sliders outside the zone against a journeyman AAA pitcher with mediocre stuff. Super small sample size obviously, but I I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles with major league offspeed pitches based on what I saw. Honestly surprised the Sox didn't end up with him based on his aggression and trouble with spin. Hope to see Charlotte next time they're in town.

  45. I’m pretty sure @WestEddy mentioned he was dealing with some serious health issues so hopefully his absence isn’t due to that and he’s just finally been broken by this lousy team and needed a break.

  46. Since @WestEddy seems to be taking a break I just wanted to point out the Sox have only been shutout ONCE in the last 31 games!
