If I was suddenly in charge I would double or triple the going salaries for top FO & scouting talent and poach from the best organizations. Take the $35M or whatever wasted on vets every year and pump it directly into the infrastructure instead. Let Corlas, Baldwin, Dickman type guys start. You never know5 points

Its like our star trade deadline acquisition from GM Getz, is writing the ineptitude journal for me, play by play.3 points

Pretty bad. And yet, not as bad as our 'cornerstone' pickup of the trade deadline:3 points

Appreciate everyone's patience this morning. As I mentioned - we are now migrated onto a new server. The next step will be the upgrade of the software which will happen in a couple of days and will be another 4-8 hour outage. In the case of the new server - I will note that some of you may be able to access the site on your home computer or laptop but not from your phone (or vice versa). This is because everyone's internet provider is different at refreshing the DNS. If you want to accelerate - clear out the cookies and that might help. Otherwise everyone should be seeing the new server in next 24-48 hours (most should be much sooner). New server is significantly faster. Upgrade will not be significant in terms of forum software change - but should help with reliability, security, and overall run time. Appreciate everyone's patience.2 points

Watching paint dry is more impressive than the Sox.2 points

The Dodgers and Cardinals are probably still laughing at Getz about that trade.2 points

I was doing the same for a few days. Avg, OBP, OBS, etc. etc. and I just got depressed and stopped even looking. You got a TI-83+ or what you using for ur calculations?2 points

He'd be an idiot not to get TJS. He needs the extra velocity that can come from it.2 points

I don't love the New rule. I get that eternal tanking is bad but when you are rock bottom you need 2-3 good picks in a row. The Os got 4 top5 picks in a row (1,2,5,1) which gave them a huge competitive advantage and a big part of their core (Rutschman, holliday, cowser). I would prefer it to not get more than 4 or 5 top10 picks in a decade rather than not twice in a row. Imo really bad teams should be able to tank hard for 3 years in a row, what you don't want is teams who tank all the time. Give teams an incentive to be good for 5-6 years before they rebuild and punish teams who tank, be good for 1 or 2 years and then sell off again (I know this happened to the sox too but kinda due to some catastrophic events and not intention to tank again quickly).2 points

The problem is that those teams likely allocate their money better. They probably invest in things like their minor leagues, analytics, and the international market. The Sox usually just have a higher payroll, but they spend that payroll on C-level talent in the hopes of catching lightning in a bottle. Most fans would prefer to either spend more freely or to invest in the above areas, but it’s not our call.2 points

I’m all for trading older expensive guys for prospects but in this case, the Sox would be better off if they had all of those guys back. A monkey could get a better return for all of them next offseason.1 point
-
Still impressed by Martin. Definitely a top 3 in the rotation next year if he stays healthy.1 point
-
Still can’t believe they’ve traded Cease, Burger, Fedde and Bummer and have so little to show for it. That will set the rebuild back quite a bit.1 point
-
Like I’ve been saying since the beginning of the season, a monkey throwing darts at pictures of players could do a better job than Getz.1 point
-
How sad is it that Getz basically negated his one really good offseason acquisition? He literally got trash back for a 4+ WAR starter on a cheap contract. Somehow we went from a bad GM to an even worse one.1 point

I was too busy averaging all the numbers of the opening line-up on a calculator, lol. Just have GameDay right now. Not even audio. 0.6265555 is the average OPS of the starting line-up tonight, to be exact.1 point

There are dozens of theories out there as to why pitchers are breaking down like they are. You touch on some of them. Another being discussed is that kids are specializing at an early age (i.e. just play baseball, just play tennis et al) and they are not developing an overall muscular structure, wearing things out to soon. Trainers are suggesting let kids play all sports, different sports to gain overall strength and lateral motion and quickness.1 point

The Knights spotted Eder a five piece in the first, only for him to swiftly allow 6 ER and last .1 innings. Major woof.1 point

True Ron, but as you know, velocity was never a big part of his game and who knows if TJ surgery will make him a flame thrower. Agree though that he should probably have it sooner rather than later.1 point

Yep. @Lip Man 1 is right and we will hear how he needs TJ in a few months, which will further delay his return.1 point

Wait, one more… The Red Sox just released 1B Dominic Smith. He’d be our best hitter by OPS before Vaughn. 278 PA .237 AVG .317 OBP .390 SLG .707 OPS 6 HR 34 RBI1 point

Right now that is one Andrew Vaughn and his robust 96 OPS+1 point

The white Sox now have -5.2 fWAR from position players. I believe this is the worst ever and will finish as the worst ever.1 point

I also hate the lottery. Maybe have a lottery between the 4 worst teams or so, but that the guardians who had the 9th worst record and made the alds a year before (more a down year of some guys rather than being really bad) got the first pick imo is a distortion of competition.1 point

Even just moving the team back to the 5th pick is a big punishment…all the way back to 10 is just crazy. I also think the MLB is greatly overestimating how much some of the terrible owners like Jerry care. This new rule is essentially trying to force owners to pay up and invest $ to get the team better. Jerry is going to give a big “No Thank You” back as an answer, he just doesn’t care if the team remains bad. And he’s not the only owner1 point

Good defense and game is in extra innings. Little things matter and the Sox are still sucky at defense (and hitting and out of the pen).1 point

It doesn’t happen very often but it can. But even if Lopez would accept 20% less than his salary this year for next year, I wouldn’t even offer him that. 🤣 https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/salary-arbitration1 point

They would lose in arb then. He pretty much to be non tendered, because then they can negotiate a lot more.1 point

Honestly? I would trade Crochet for a top notch GM in a heartbeat. Granted I don't think Dayton Moore is that guy, but I wouldn't hesitate to do it for an actually good front office head.1 point

Agreed! I've been a Sox fan longer than most alive and have never experienced this kind of disgusting & diabolical operation of a sports entity. I'm not even aware that its ever existed to this magnitude. The only similar experience was the Arthur & Bill Wirtz Blackhawks. This is much, much worse as is Reinsdorf though they were all chiseled from the same heartless mold. Their only true love is greedy & miserly wealth.1 point

Some notes from today's slate: Tommy Vail had been great (0.65ERA in 18IP entering today) after a promotion to WS, but he left today's start in the first with an injury. Nothing that looked visually obvious. Jeral Perez looks like a good get. Solid at SS, went 2-3 with a 2B, 3B, and BB today. Wilfred Veras is locked in. A HR today for his second in 3 games. Slashing .328/.409/.534 through 58 August ABs. Sean Burke should taste the majors soon. Adisyn Coffey in 6IP this month: 1ER, 10K, 2BB, 2/2 saves. Finally, don't let Smith being nasty distract you from the fact that he's not even our top LHP prospect. Schultz finished 3.2IP/0ER without his best stuff today. He had to (and did) pitch out of second and third no outs in the first after a HBP and BB, which cost him some precious pitch count.1 point

Bottom line is Grifol was a horrible manager of a horrible baseball team put together by a horrible GM who answers to a horrible owner.1 point

I know there wasn't a lot of hope for this season, but literally no one said worst season in the history of baseball.1 point

Never in my most horrible nightmares did I envision the White Sox falling to the depths we have seen this year and it’s not over and as you stated this can go on for years.1 point

Katz isn't responsible for this shitty bullpen. Chris Getz is. There is like one or two guys out there who have the actual talent to be in a major league bullpen. The rest are doing exactly what they should be doing, and I can't hold that against a pitching coach. Brebbia has underperformed for sure, and so has Wilson. Sounds like Wilson is probably hurt, so really John Brebbia is the only black mark, and with as volatile as a bullpen is from year to year, I would cancel out Brebs with Tanner Banks sucess and call it a wash.1 point
-
Is Katz responsible for the stiffs, has-been's and never was's in the bullpen? You can't make chicken salad out of chicken s%*# can you? Not completely defending him but that is a lot of hot garbage in the bullpen which is partially why they have taken a lead into the 7th inning or later 24 times now...and lost the game.1 point
