Give the guy a break. We have failed him. He only asks for $1 billion so he can build a park where he can compete with KC and Det and Minn and Cle. How can he compete with them now?7 points

I think hiring the wrong people, then stepping in and overruling the people he hires (like the TLR hiring) are a pretty big cause for there being a bad front office.4 points

I mentioned before the Astro series that the goal should be to win one game a series and they will get to 43 wins and avoid the worst record in the modern era, so far they are on track.3 points

The only thing that will fix this franchise is when that guy is listed in an obit in the local papers just like Dollar Bill Wirtz. IMHO He is a horrible owner. The only thing going for me is that he isnt immortal. Eventually father time will clean up this mess and hopefully the next owner isnt this guy.3 points

Praise doesn't come easy when a team is going to lose well over 100 games. When it is two consecutive 100 loss seasons doesn't help either, especially when it has never happened in team history. Don't worry. Another losing streak is on the way.2 points

He’s just one more asset they don’t have to trade now. As I mentioned last night, they have very little to show for a lot of players moved.2 points

I don’t think anyone dismisses that Jerry is the larger problem for the Sox. Jerry being a terrible owner with restrictions and front office personnel sucking at their job can both be true.2 points

I'd say the chances of this happening are about the same as the Yankees bringing in Hahn and Pedro this winter.2 points

I hate that the message boards force us to click on threads we know we hate simply from reading the title. I wish the board would create a way for us to skip threads we don’t like.2 points

My boys play on very high level travel teams, and about 80 pct of their teammates play other sports.2 points

I think this is totally correct, and he also doesn’t want to do things than the way they are done now. He doesn’t want to meet a bunch of new people, doesn’t want new voices, doesn’t want to change the “fabric” on the White Sox. Frustrating as hell, but I believe that’s the case2 points

Is your narrative supposed to excuse Getz for his two starting lineup acquisitions in Fletcher and Vargas? Neither player is earning much money so your narrative doesn’t really apply, and yet they were who Getz still chose to acquire. We already know that Getz could have traded for Jake McCarthy (.829 OPS / 2.3 WAR) instead of Fletcher (.562 OPS / 0.5 WAR). And trading a 4+ WAR starter on a cheap contract for Vargas (.583 OPS / -0.1 WAR)? Brutal. I understand the narrative you are stating and there is some truth to it, but it doesn’t apply to these two specific awful acquisitions made by Getz.2 points

Kind of a strange statement for a 1st year GM who endured a $55M payroll slash from a notoriously frugal , meddling, no interest in building an infrastructure, unwilling to sell so his heirs aren't hit with higher taxes upon his death, who thinks the Sox are unable to compete at their current location owner who's been doing the same s%*# for his entire tenure of 40+ years .2 points

I bet payroll will be down more than 10%.2 points

There are dozens of theories out there as to why pitchers are breaking down like they are. You touch on some of them. Another being discussed is that kids are specializing at an early age (i.e. just play baseball, just play tennis et al) and they are not developing an overall muscular structure, wearing things out to soon. Trainers are suggesting let kids play all sports, different sports to gain overall strength and lateral motion and quickness.2 points

A through, scathing look at JR's history with the White Sox and his multitude of mistakes: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/jerry-reinsdorf-keeps-failing-the-white-sox-forty-years-of-ownership-and-almost-nothing-to-show-for-it/1 point

Praise doesn't come easy when the team is going to end the season as the worst team in the history of modern baseball. You have to be shitting me with posts like this, given the state of this franchise and how this season has gone. Lol1 point

What do the Sox have to show right now for Getz spending $25+ million last offseason on mostly bad players? Miguel Vargas? Oh joy… I’d rather the Sox spend that money on their minor league system so they can actually develop and churn out their own players rather than let Getz waste another $25+ million next offseason on bums. We’ve seen the dumpster diving strategy employed year after year and it doesn’t work.1 point

I know it was an odd time for a game mid week but you can't deny that winning game threads are shorter than losing ones most of the time. Praise doesn't come easy to people especially when it's so much easier to just go with the flow.1 point

Did the baseball gods look down on this game and get the teams and uniforms mixed up. How is this possible?? The bullpen throws five shutout innings AND/ ALSO the Sox score four runs in the nine inning. IN THE SAME GAME??? That's what's been happening to the Sox all year!!!!1 point
-
Well sure, anyone can get injured at anytime. But I'd argue that a prospect you get back in a trade missing a year and a half for TJS is not nearly as bad as your biggest trade chip missing a year a half for TJS when there's only two years of team control left.1 point
-
The best option was to keep Burger with all that control. His slugging is very suitable for GRF. He is still hitting homers in Miami which is a pitcher friendly park. IMO.1 point

"guys, all you gotta do is win ONE OUT OF THREE GAMES rest of the way to avoid the record." "Best I can do is one out of four"1 point

Lenyn Sosa with more RBI in the last 15 games than Miguel Vargas in his 15 games with the team.1 point

This is a great example of a time I was told about the dangers of holding onto Cease during the offseason, and my response was that the player we traded for might also require TJS at some point during the season. We made a terrible trade, and now that Thorpe is hurt, the return is even worse. Stupidity has a way of snowballing.1 point

Just looking at the box, and I know offense is historically low this year, but these slash lines are SHOCKING. Both teams are trotting out a half dozen guys with an OBP below 280 and an OPS below 650.1 point

You should see Facebook every Sunday night. All it is, is bragging, by parents about how their kid’s team did that weekend. Away travel tournaments bring out the worst in the parents, as you’ve never seen so many drunk people in a hotel.1 point

Also, if you want to know another thing that stinks about youth sports, it’s the stats on GameChanger. These poor kids have all their friends and family see their stats, good or bad.1 point

He's had a decent month but for the season as a whole he's walked way too many guys and his BAbip is way too low to have any confidence on future success. I'll willing to bet Charlotte will not treat him well.1 point

There are so many teams, it’s very possible to find an inexpensive one. Heck, there are some programs that will give you a sponsored roster spot. There’s no pressure at all to choose one sport. I swear that’s just created by travel teams in all sports to get people to play. And yes, if you want to face good competition, you have to play travel. Rec league competition is like the White a Sox of Major League Baseball. I wish all the kids just played for their town team, but in the Illinois area, I don’t blame any kid for playing for Sparks, etc.1 point

Burger would be worth more to this team than both Eloy and Eder whether or not he was traded. Eloy is going to be a free agent once he is bought out and Eder may never even see the major leagues. Yes, with Eder, that is using hindsight but oh well. Maybe the Sox did sell Burger high but they got back crap. And Burger is currently at .770 OPS with a career OPS of .795.1 point

Yea I don't have kids but I'm fairly involved in local sports and most the kids from what I can tell are playing at least two sports. I'm always a little surprised as someone that grew up during the height of "just do one sport" era parenting that a lot of guys looking to go D1 in football are also pretty damn good on the baseball diamond or basketball court. I don't think that specialization is behind the arm injuries. I just think it's physics. Guys are throwing harder, younger, than ever. The elbow just can't handle it unless you are some super freak, and even then eventually it will likely go like Verlander.1 point
-
Well if you remember, when me and you were kids curves were bad! Only throw fastballs, curves come later. Maybe changeups as kids but no curves. now we are at the other side of the pendulum. And I get it that it’s hard to “grow” a kid as an athlete and keep him both at an upward strength trajectory and safe. People grow and develop at different rates. We see kids in little league WS that look like seniors in Hs playing with and against kids that look younger than 10. I just don’t see it as considerably worse than the glory years Greg is pining for. Kids back then blew out their arms and were never heard from again1 point
-
How old? Early specialization is a huge problem, or at least it was up through like 5 years ago when I was still paying close attention to youth sports. I know USA Hockey and the USOC are actively trying to address it.1 point

10%? LMAO. You couldn't fucking pay me to attend a Sox game at this point. My starting price is $500. That would cover the food/alcohol I would have to consume to forget about how pathetic this organization is.1 point

The Giants have tried very hard the last two days to give the Sox a win. I’ve noticed that in a few recent series. A lot of these teams aren’t very good. We are really just that bad.1 point

The funny thing is how in the interview Stone talks about how difficult things are in the organization but somehow, someway JR isn't responsible for any of it. 😆 Right.1 point

It wouldn't cost but a small fraction of that much.1 point

If I was suddenly in charge I would double or triple the going salaries for top FO & scouting talent and poach from the best organizations. Take the $35M or whatever wasted on vets every year and pump it directly into the infrastructure instead. Let Corlas, Baldwin, Dickman type guys start. You never know1 point

Robots might be calling balls and strikes, but the umps don't want you to forget them. First this: Which was relatively minor...but then in the next inning, Nastrini gets quickly ejected from the game for arguing a safe call on a SB. I personally thought the runner was out, but also Nastrini didn't do anything especially demonstrative that made it obvious why he'd get kicked so quickly?1 point

Lost in the fact is that Burger was injured, And not just a tweaked hamstring or anything. It was a intercostal injury which is in the muscles in his ribs. Not a good injury for a power hitter. You think maybe that was why he struggled. Now you want to discount what he has done when healthy after the break. Should we discount what he did after the trade deadline last year in 53 games with a .303 average, 9 hrs and a 850 OPS. When healthy he produces . I will take 3.1 offensive WAR for a DH for 750K, at least hold onto him until he has 2 years left and he is putting up 35 HRs per year. You might get something better than a bad minor league pitcher.1 point
