I’m glad that there are more outside hires coming. It’s a huge positive. Chris Getz didn’t hire himself. I’d personally prefer to be optimistic about this plan instead of just bitching and moaning over things I can’t control every day. Maybe that’s just me though.8 points

I know he is doing a bad job. It's obvious to everyone things are not great. I don't need to get told in every single post about how he should have traded for these two specific guys.7 points

I don't think there are that many folks here that are under the illusion that Getz is killing it. But we just don't feel the need to rapid fire post about how s%*# everything is at every waking hour. Those posts are just exhausting and hardly add any value to the message board. It doesn't drive me to want to read or even engage.6 points

Wouldn’t your point make more sense if Getz was the one who hired himself? JR is the idiot who hired Getz in the first place, and now Getz is at least trying to do things correctly by hiring from the outside.6 points

Do you remember the owner telling us that they promoted Getz without any real GM search or interviews despite a horrendous track record of player development because he knew the organization and could quickly turn it around?5 points

According to WestEddy, Getz goal this year was to fix the pitching. Mission accomplished. 29th lowest ERA in baseball.4 points

This no one expected a playoff team but…it very well may be the worst roster assembled in MLB history. I don’t care how bad KW and Hahn left the state of the franchise, how horrible of an owner JR is…Getz has missed on almost every single move he has made so far. The 26 man roster has approximately 3 MLB level players on it. Korey Lee, Luis Robert, and Garrett Crochet. Even then, Lee wouldn’t get a lot of time on a true contending team. There are zero MLB players on the field today. Pham was the only move I can really think of that turned out ok but then he essentially gave him away for nothing. There’s zero chance JR would actually fire Getz after one year but if there ever was a situation in which an MLB GM absolutely should be fired within 365 days on the job, this is a poor enough performance to justify it.4 points

Your “agenda” talk is a sham. The proof is in the pudding. Getz’s two trades for guys he thought would be fixtures in the lineup in Fletcher and Vargas have been atrocious. This isn’t some sort of conspiracy to make Getz look bad. Getz has made himself look like a bad GM under his own accord with those two trades. He doesn’t need help from any posters here.4 points
-
-His trades have looked short -He has a good eye for scrap heap pitching. other than that, I got nothing.4 points

You can only be sold something if you actually bought it. We all know the real reason JR didn’t do an actual GM search is because it would have required putting in work and talking to new people. And I think it’s far more likely that it took Getz that long to convince JR that folks needed to be fired rather than it took him that long to realize they needed to be fired. I can’t believe y’all actually got me defending Getz on here who, once again, I think should NOT be the GM.4 points

How many different threads are you gonna have the lightbulb come on and say “I don’t think they are gonna spend any money next year” this has to be like 154 points

You’re right, W-L records don’t matter if you’re rebuilding but Getz thought he was putting at least a .500 team on the field at the beginning of the year, how delusional was that. Just proves that the guy doesn’t have a clue especially after bringing absolutely no one of any consequence at the trading deadline.3 points

I'm not living in fantasyland, either. You keep imagining I'm thinking or saying things I'm not. You seem to have a beef with an idealized version of me who is claiming that Getz is doing the best job in all of baseball, and that their w-l record is actually inverted. If Getz turns around and trades Crochet this offseason for a package centered around Eloy, or something like that, I might start judging him poorly. He's a new GM who was left a shitshow. He's made a few mistakes, and made some good moves. There's an agenda here where a small bunch of people don't want anyone to develop the idea that Getz might actually be moving the organization in a positive direction.3 points
-
If they lose this one, it will be 4-33 their last 37. Except for WestEddy and Schriffen, everyone would agree that is unacceptably bad,3 points
-
I think Getz has done a crap job overall so far, but I fail to see the humor in realizing that they should go outside the org for hiring. Of all if the things to criticize him for, this shouldn’t be one of them.3 points
-
I’m fine. I’m not living in fantasyland thinking everyone in the Sox front office should be replaced except for Getz. You’re the one we should be concerned about.3 points
-
Nice try. Until you start making those same posts, I have no choice but to assume you want a Getz extension.3 points
-
Correct. Getz wanting to hire outside the organization doesn't make him a hypocrite. As others have said, he didn't hire himself. While basically no one believes he deserves the role he is in, I'd rather him take the approach he's taking than trying to convince AJ to manage the team, or Willie Harris being on the top of their candidate list simply because he played for the White Sox. This organization is in dire need of new voices.3 points

You don't like reading the same post over and over again about a Twins infielder or a Diamondbacks outfielder?3 points
-
Absolutely. I didn’t like the Getz hire when it happened and I don’t like it now. But it did happen and so here we are. And until a certain number of fan posts can actually result in his firing, I guess I’m just at the point where I’m only really interested if there are new things to be angry about. Getz being the GM? Makes me angry, but old news. Getz saying he’s planning to hire from outside the org? Good, better than promoting from within.3 points
-
Well yeah. I assumed we were all well aware of that at this point. I just don’t get what that has to do with Getz, who is the current GM whether we like it or not, saying that he’s looking to make outside hires. Would it have been better if he said he’s planning to hire from within the org?3 points
-
We can’t control anything , yet as fans I believe we have a lot to b**** about. The White Sox should actually be glad there is moaning and groaning. It shows some. A couple more years of this crap, and maybe that won’t be the case anymore.3 points

Not a single player in the lineup today would play for a contending team. Not one.2 points

I’m actually rooting for Jerry and Getz to own the record. It couldn’t happen to a worse owner and a more unqualified GM. It would be very fitting for them both to own it.2 points

He sucks at his job. What you are saying is JR , who never speaks on the record, held a press conference and said he hired Getz because he knew the organization, knew where the bodies were buried, and wouldn’t waste a year figuring out what needs.fixing. Now you are saying JR told him to hold off a year on several moves. That’s as ridiculous as your quote about no one panning Getz deadline. He was panned plenty. If you are reading Keith Law, you have access to Jim Bowden. Read his analysiis. im sure Chris is a nice person, but he’s a terrible GM. He’s employed by the only ream in the league that would give him that position.2 points

DeLoach double, Ramos HR to give Eder a 2-1 lead in the 4th. Colson adds a solo shot, 3-1.2 points
-
At this point if JR fired Getz it would make me think Getz is actually trying to improve scouting and development and JR would consider that a breach of his trust. What are you doing Gez ? I told you to allocate most of the budget to player acquisitions. What do you mean by I can't get any good players with $50M ? You're fired ! I'm sure it's just me but Getz seems like he's sneakily throwing JR under the bus with some of the things he's been saying.2 points
-
It was a universally panned trade by almost all baseball writers, and that was before Vargas performed as the worst player in baseball. His batted ball metrics make it very unlikely he amounts to anything.2 points
-
You are a Getz defender .Shame on you ! What ? Oh you're in the grey area that's made up of JR is the much bigger problem , were stuck with Getz until JR figures out that Getz is doing things he doesn't like or is incompetent or JR becomes no more , and his heirs sell the team ? Welcome !!2 points
-
Yeah, he probably has. That's why he picked one area to completely redo as his first act, bring in Bannister, and overhaul pitching development. And that seems to have worked out very well. So you've proven to me that Getz seems to know what he's doing, and is executing well. He probably took a hard look at amateur and international scouting, letting Paddy complete a full scouting cycle with some new direction to see how he proceeded. He probably was told to hold on to Grifol and his coaches, give him a couple "clubhouse leaders" to see how he managed, and that played out. Pretending that Getz was solely responsible for every part of every mess he inherited is silly. The illogic of those assertions make me cut Getz even more slack.2 points

He was the assistant GM. Hasn't he been evaluating the organization for years? He sucks more as an executive than he did as a player.2 points
-
Isn't the main window for hiring the GM meetings, or the owners' meetings in December? Getz was hired in mid-August, giving him about 10 weeks of baseball activity to evaluate the organization. My guess is that he fixed one area with the Bannister hire, and then gave himself a year to evaluate the rest of the operation. I don't see him answering questions honestly (which is what everyone's screaming for) about different areas (hitting development, international scouting, etc) as throwing people under the bus, or admitting that he was at fault for those people being there in the first place. He actually gave everybody in the organization an entire year to either expose or exonerate themselves. Marco Paddy's biggest international signing this cycle (Eduardo Herrera) just OPSed .573 in the Dominican League. It's good that the GM is recognizing areas that aren't producing, and is openly talking about moving on.2 points

Exactly. Goal 1 is make money for himself his investors and his heirs. Goal 2 is to win. It's a top priority until it interferes with Goal 1 which with his ultra coversative approach, it happens all the time .2 points

That's how I became a "Chris Getz burner account". Every move must confirm that Getz is "in over his head". It's not hypocritical or even ironic that a guy hired for a job understands he has to get new ideas from outside the organization.2 points

I mean, you could probably replace a lot of the decision makers with ChatGPT or a Twitter poll and get better results.2 points

My understanding is the point is that Getz shouldn’t be the GM. When you click on this thread you’re basically redirected to the Fire Getz thread.2 points

What’s the point of this? People here have been clamoring for the Sox to make outside hires for years, and now the team has a GM who’s committed to doing that.2 points

The point is the guy making the outside hire should have been an outside hire. We are still in the land of JR.2 points

Reinsdorf is lazy. That doesn’t really have any bearing on what happens now though. It is what it is. Agreed Right but there’s nothing we can do about it. Hopefully he hires other guys like Brian Bannister For sure. It’s a tiny sample though. We have no idea yet.2 points

He hasn’t done one thing I have felt was his job to do. He isn’t doing anything including the rebuild voluntarily or because he wants better for the team, it’s the cheapest option2 points
