  1. There is a difference between patience and watching a clownshow trip over its own feet. Think about it, in the history of baseball, including the era where The Tank is a practiced methodology, no franchise in modern baseball history has been able to intentionally put together a worse team the White Sox did when they were supposedly trying this season. Sox fans want to see a clear plan and methodology. They have seen Captain Panic and the worst team in MLB history.

  2. What are you talking about? He just bought Getz a new computer.

  3. That phrasing has always bothered me because it still gives JR more credit than he deserves. Instead I think about it this way: JR doesn’t care enough about winning that he’s willing to make any changes to the way he does things.

  4. I do grow tired of people saying this. Wouldn’t we all like to be successful by our own rules. That’s not a feather in our caps. I would like to be UFC champion by my rules, which would involve not getting hit and not working particularly hard. Screw Reinsdorf and his rules.

  5. I mean, he's 28 and has had 6 years of being a bad player. We'll beat the horse into glue, but players like Robles and Bart have shown more and they just slid on by in favor of Martin Maldonado, Corey Julks and Tommy Pham. Edit: Want to clarify that this isn't a shot at you, just stressing that despite having first dibs, Getz can't even make the right call on waiver claims.

  6. Also, Amaya rocked a .649 OPS in the PCL this season. Chris Getz just likes to acquire Chris Getz-style players.

  7. Well this explains a lot about our trade deadline deals. Instead of trusting actual scouts, we were trusting an assistant hitting coach who was on the chopping block just like the scouts we are paying not to work. You can't make this stuff up.

  8. This is the most dysfunctional organization in Professional Sports and no fixes will be addressed until Reinsdorf is no longer the owner, the man is running the franchise like it’s still 1983.

  9. Took a minute to understand what Ozzie was trying to say, but he finally explained. Being 70 under .500 is basically like going winless for 2 straight months. Yikes.

  10. For those keeping score at home - the bottom of the 6th was 4 pitches and lasted 1 minute 34 seconds.

  13. Same old same old, constant rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Getz is grasping at straws, I have no idea why. This might be the most important off-season in White Sox franchise history starting with who will be the new manager.

  15. You're probably misinterpreting the situation. A lot of boomers came from just the father working homes with big families ,one car, 3 or 4 brothers and sisters and that was middle or younger lower middle class in Chicago. While you play sports there are 3 or 4 more kids at home that need both parents attention. You want to play sports ,fine ,your grades better not suffer , you still have chores to do because with that many kids mom's exhausted. I know its not ideal but showing support is not easy with big families when the sibling are usually very close in age and you got a mortgage to pay ,backs to clothe, and got to put food on the table . Couldn't play favorites. Kids were mainly meant to be seen but not heard, old school discipline . Go to church every Sunday. Get out of the house and come back when the street lights go on. We aren't coddled in any way.If you want to do this ,fine,, it's on you to take the responsibility and know you wont won't get out of anything you are currently required to do to make this household run smoother. You will not be prioritized over your siblings. Maybe they didn't go to a lot of games but they developed your interest in sports to begin with by going to the park or out in the street and actually playing with you and your siblings whether it was playing catch with a football, baseball or a Clincher.

  17. For this decision, Getz likely listened to Mike Tosar, the former Dodgers scout that initially signed Vargas. Mike Tosar, also the same Sox assistant hitting coach that was fired a week after Vargas was acquired.

  18. I called it at the time. Fedde trade was a complete and unmitigated disaster. Whoever recommended him should be fired along with Getz. Not like you couldn’t see this when Vargas was a Dodger. You could.

  19. Vargas was slumping with the Dodgers too. Getz traded for the equivalent of Sosa/Colas. What a disaster. I would bring up Ramos and make Vargas earn his next call up next year. Maybe he can make adjustments over the winter. If you can’t hit a 4-seamer, you cannot play in mlb.

  20. Anything that involves “the owner telling us” something is completely irrelevant, so it’s probably not something to base an argument around.

  22. According to WestEddy, Getz goal this year was to fix the pitching. Mission accomplished. 29th lowest ERA in baseball.

  23. This no one expected a playoff team but…it very well may be the worst roster assembled in MLB history. I don’t care how bad KW and Hahn left the state of the franchise, how horrible of an owner JR is…Getz has missed on almost every single move he has made so far. The 26 man roster has approximately 3 MLB level players on it. Korey Lee, Luis Robert, and Garrett Crochet. Even then, Lee wouldn’t get a lot of time on a true contending team. There are zero MLB players on the field today. Pham was the only move I can really think of that turned out ok but then he essentially gave him away for nothing. There’s zero chance JR would actually fire Getz after one year but if there ever was a situation in which an MLB GM absolutely should be fired within 365 days on the job, this is a poor enough performance to justify it.

  25. You don’t see the irony in how a GM who was promoted undeservingly from within now has the initiative to only hire from outside the org because internal hires must apparently not be the greatest choice? Your point would make sense if it wasn’t Getz running the show and being in charge of this new initiative. But alas, the top dog is still just another Jerry minion. But then you made a joke about grabbing more Royals employees, so you seemingly are aware that the Sox are picking the wrong people?

  26. I don't think any team is breaking the 134 loss Spiders' record, but they have a real shot to crack 120 and own the modern era record.

  27. I think some have become desensitized to exactly how bad this team. There are multiple parts which are historically bad, and literally none of it is good, or even mediocre. They have earned every single bit of the horrible historic events they keep making.

  28. There are a decent number of bullpens that are just not very good....not as bad as the White Sox but still not very good. It is absolutely astounding that a major league ballclub cannot score against any of those other bullpens. I know some people here do not want to hear the broken record of fire Getz but the man has absolutely no idea how to evaluate talent. There is no reason he should be employed after this season with the bullpen and offense that he assembled...along with totally screwing the pooch at a trade deadline that was supposed to be a sellers' market.

  29. This org is screwed. Can someone legitimately explain to me why I should have any hope in this team contending for anything, even a last wildcard spot, in the next 5 years? The minor league system is nothing to get excited about. History suggests good free agents won't sign here even if the Sox knew how to sign good ones (which they don't). Fedde is the exception. The only decent thing about this team is the starting pitching, but that doesn't matter when your bullpen is trash and the rest of the team can't field OR swing the bat.

  30. They are both really bad at everything. I am openly rooting against Vargas and Fletcher at this point in hopes of a house cleaning yet again as a result.

  31. In my opinion 40-122 would be the modern record, so 10-21 the last 31. I’m thinking they get a few wins more than usual when they get down to the last 15. We’ll see how bad the next 16 go. I’m hoping for under 40 wins. Let’s go all the way with this thing.

  32. Maybe number three with deep reservations. I do not have any expectations of this franchise and won't invest emotions in it. I won't invest money either as 2004 will be the first time since 1981 when I will not have attended a game. Not worth it.

  34. Even if he did want to be here he needs to be swapped for multiple players. If a middle of the road franchise somewhere offered you $4,000,000 a year as a free agent how much more would it take to get you to come to the Sox? That's what Getz has to deal with.
