  1. It is wild how everyone but Chris Getz is the problem with the White Sox.

  2. Is every positive move for the org going to be viewed through this lense of “Yeah but Getz is still here”? I get it. He’s unqualified for and bad at his job, but he’s not going anywhere. It is what it is. Meanwhile, basically any change that happens within this rotting, maggot infested org is a good thing.

  3. This is where I'm at. I think the trades have been putrid, but at least he's identifying places that glaringly need to be upgraded? If you aren't spending on free agency in the near future, fucking rehaul this antiquated organization. (If JR lets him.)

  4. I’m not a professional so I may be way off, but the Dodgers couldn’t get him to hit or field, so I’m thinking the Sox will fail.

  7. Its like folks don't grasp just how HISTORICALLY BAD this team and this season is. There should be no remaining front office members, when you do something THIS badly.

  8. He's 31-109 this season. You don't need to make up stuff to get mad about.

  9. Chris Getz, without looking directly into a mirror:

  10. If this was Getz call then I like him a bit more. He's been brutal in trades but he is fixing the front office personal issues I'll give him that.

  11. We don't seem to be able to do that either, otherwise Tim Anderson's life would have been a bit different.

  13. A game thread for a game that doesn't exist is wild.

  14. That bold part really does make this exchange asinine. That said, guys like Sosa could have filled in at SS in the meantime, no? It's just mind boggling that they keep doing this same "play short for basically the entire duration of an IL stint" thing, especially when they're calling guys up for 1 game at a time.

  15. The GM doesn't have the authority to choose the people who work beneath him, and this is supposed to make White Sox fans feel confident in their GM.

  16. Getz was promoted because he knows the organization. We think the organization sucks and people need to be fired. Maybe Getz also believes that the organization sucks and is firing people. Cleaning house seems like a good start whether you want him in the position or not.

  17. Jerry is playing 3D Chess "Well Getzy buddy we only have one more person to fire." "But I'm the only one here?" "Bwahahaha"

  18. Alexei and Escobar weren’t Paddy, and everyone on Soxtalk could have recommended Abreu and Robert.

  19. It took Getz a year to figure out Paddy suck, thought I’d just remind JR.

  20. He could improve but he needs to totally rework his swing and find a way to hit the ball hard. His statcast data is horrendous and pitchers are challenging him constantly with fastballs and he can't do anything with them. Not good signs. Especially for a guy who profiles as a bad defender.

  21. Dude only has 530 mlb plate appearances, many of which were fairly spread out. He has indeed looked like s%*# but his history says he has exceptional command of the strike zone, so I’m going to wait and see what he looks after another 530+ PA. It really only matters how he produces in years two through five of the sox future control anyway. Plenty of average or better mlb regulars with his kind of career arc at this point

  22. If JR had any pride he would realize he made a terrible mistake trying to not “waste a year” and completely clean house. What’s happening here is unprecedented and will most likely never be seen again. Well, unless he does nothing then I can see the 2025 White Sox saying “hold my beer”.

  23. Why the hell would Terry Francona want this job?

  24. Meanwhile Connor Norby could have easily been gotten for Fedde. A lot of people discounted him on here as a low tier prospect. He is only hitting .320 for the marlins with 3 HRs and a marlins record 9 xbh in his first 12 games. I honestly think I am a better GM than Getz.

  25. I'm all for trying to fix once top prospects but man, you don't target that kind of guy in the trade of your best asset traded at the deadline.

  26. If JR wants to pay for the stadium himself I have no objection at all. But he's already been gifted a stadium once along with a sweetheart lease agreement. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. If he wants a new stadium he can pay for it. Especially given how he's run the franchise and the return the fan base has gotten from it.

  28. So they played short handed yet again while insisting that Baldwin might be available on this road trip. Seriously how inept is this medical, training and conditioning staffs?

  29. 2 reasons. #1, we Don't actually know Paddy is the problem here. The usual errand boys keep telling us he is, but until someone asks the right questions, we don't know the actual problem. #2, you can fire all of the incompetent underlyings you like, if you just find other incompetent underlings to replace them, nothing is actually going to change

  34. I mean the Sox really don't have a choice. Good, bad, or indifferent, they are married to Vargas for the near future. We will see if he fails or not, but isn't crazy to note his performance to this date, as well as the Sox don't seem to be able to fix hitters very well in recent history as a part of having a lot of doubt here.

  35. Good analogy with Clemson. You would think that this season would force some kind of mass changes. I don't understand how he can't see this and be like "Man, I made a terrible decision".

  36. Yes for the White Sox to sign decent free agents they have to overpay. The same money, why would you walk into this situation. Plus, look at just about every significant White Sox free agent signing. There is an exception or 2 , but signing with the White Sox is a career killer. It’s where your career goes to die.

  37. I was watching some commentary on Dabo Swinney and how coaches like that that build a program and let it slip away (I think the demise of clemson is a little overrated, personally, but obviously the decline has been real). They talked about how those coaches hang on too long to what they think college football should be rather than adjusting to what it is. It is very on the nose to Reinsdorf. For 30 some years, since 94 I'd say, he's run the team based on how he thinks baseball should be run. And, miraculously, in 2005 it worked where spreading money around on veterans was better than signing a giambi. But it has continued to crumble as 2nd contract vets have been the worst value there is. Yet he still thinks that is better than paying amateurs, because I'm sure Joe Borchard or something. You could hear it in his voice with Getz. Oh he'll be hard on the guys to actually do the fundamentals, unlike those other teams just looking at spreadsheets. Yet those teams are so much more fundamentally sound than ours. They don't understand modern baseball at all, or how to run a team. He just knows he doesn't like it and wants to believe he knows a better way. Maybe this year, being such an embarrassment, could shake him out of it. But I doubt it. It sure has shaken me though, jesus christ this is embarrassing.

  38. I agree that Getz is going to be here so it's a moot point to discussing canning him. 1- Jerry has to keep Tony and himself away from White Sox player development 2- Sign at least 2 of the following UFA's: Pete Alonzo, Gleyber Torres, Alex Bregman, and take a look at Harrison Bader if the price is right. 3- Trade Crochet 4- Trade Robert jr . 5- Buyout Moncada's last year, if they can't sign any free agents then keep him at 3rd 6- Over haul International Scouting 7- Hire Sergio Santos as skipper, find the next Charlie Manuel batting coach out there. 8- Getz brings in an ex-GM of his choosing to assist him so not to get pantsed in trades. No input from Jerry or Tony. 9- Lower ticket prices by 50% 10- MLB enacts an emergency 1 year clause to allow the White to move from the tenth pick in round 1 to the 1st pick of the draft.

  40. They’ve won 4 games since July 10. How in the world are they winning 5 in the next three plus weeks? If you set the over/under at 3.5 for the rest of the year I think I’d take the under. I might consider the under at .5 if I got some odds.

  42. Nishida has a .419 OBP. Leads all of minor leagues in runs scored. One error all year with about a 60:40 2b to lf defensive split. I would so love if he becomes what Madrigal was supposed to be.

  43. It makes more sense than hiring Getz. Considering his previous titles, Getz either bears some responsibility for the previous failure, or was a coffee boy. Either way, it should have made him unqualified, and he is proving that in real time.

  44. Which is basically chicken or the egg, because with their historically bad farm system development, without spending, will they ever sniff .500? It's why I don't agree with Balta on the "Crochet Formula." He's 25 years old. Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith are probably both on this team in 2026. As I have said before, if Crochet was at all open to signing a 5 year extension, I'd front load the hell out of hit, pay the bulk of it while this team has a very small payroll, and still have Crochet during his 28-30 year old seasons at a below market rate. I understand that this organization doesn't have any offensive hitting depth, and one of the easiest ways to obtain that is by trading Crochet and obtaining 2-3 pieces that can help fill the diamond, but it still is, imo, a very poor use of Garret Crochet as a player. He is what every team dreams of having their 1st round pick develop into. Trading him at 25 is not how you turn into a better franchise.

  45. The Sox heading to shattering the 1962 Mets futility record isn't exactly going to help JR get the taxpayer money he desires. His incompetence is working against him here.
