We're finally seeing the personnel changes happen that should have been happening for a long time, and people with some internal connections (like Jimmy and Harold) have been telling us these changes need to happen. It sounds like KW and Hahn did NOT want to make these changes, or couldn't get Reinsdorf buy in. Getz seems to understand at least some of what needs to happen, and/or managed to finally convince Jerry. These are positives for the future of the franchise, assuming Getz can hire the right people - and I fully understand why people are skeptical he will.7 points

I never claimed to have the insight. I wanted to read a conversation about the thread topic, you know, like how a message board should work. Instead I get to read Getz/KC Royals and "he never should have been hired" comments for the 10,000th time. I have it all memorized. In about 2 more pages, we'll get all the rest of the classics... you'll talk about roster churn and panic and whitesox2023 will bring up how we missed out on Luke Keaschall. Then there will be 10 pages between you guys and westeddy arguing over whether Getz "should have known" Robert, Eloy, and Moncada would have all been injured at the same time at the start of the season... Someone will chime in to say Kopech is pitching well for the Dodgers. Caulfield will write a post in multiple font sizes referencing Jose Valentin, Ivan Caulderon, James Baldwin and Tyler Saladino. My favorite one is when half of you will argue Seby Zavala was bad and an indictment of Chris Getz' development ability but the other half will argue Getz fucked up by not bringing Seby Zavala back at minimum salary.5 points

People are throwing a fit because the 2024 White Sox are quite literally the worst team in baseball history with an unqualified GM who has continually made the wrong move, a middling farm system, and no money will be spent to improve the big league team. If people want to "wait and see" with Getz, whatever, you do you. Im not going to pat him on the back for firing people who deserved to be fired. Everyone deserves to be fired after losing 120+ games.5 points

You almost had it, but lost everyone here. Choosing to be miserable? In their last 303 games, the Sox are 93-210. But the fans are the ones are in the wrong here. Got it.5 points

The idea that Cub fans can figure out public transit, but Sox fans can't, continues to be absurd.5 points

It's funny we were told Getz was hired so we wouldn't have to wait a year, and for most s%*#, we had to wait a year.5 points

Moncada is getting his walking papers in a month an a half. He should be getting zero PT.5 points

If you have any actual insight into scouting, please do so, otherwise you are offering the exact same thing you are complaining about.4 points

I haven't watched a single full inning in months. I've watched less than 4 games this year and it's September. This team is so bad that it's not even enjoyable to just watch baseball. They're a disgrace to the game. Anyone glass half fulling this is either paid, reliant on them for income, or not all there.4 points

That’s the other thing about the eternal optimist posters. They will argue all day for months/years about a player (or manager, etc.). You can throw all the stats, player history, and personal observations at them. They will argue that it’s too early, you gotta give it time, the coaches/management know what they’re doing, etc. And when the player/manager is designated for assignment or cut or fired, they still won’t admit to being wrong. It’s always, “oh, so sue me for wanting a guy to do well and not just shitting on everything the organization does.” Anyone who’s been here for an extended amount of time has seen it a thousand times.4 points

Yeah, I can't think of any reason why the White Sox in 2024 would have their fans being selectively miserable. Buck up, nothing unusual happening to this team right now.4 points

Josh Barfield, Paul Janish and Brian Bannister aren't from KC. The new manager won't be from KC either. Yeah, he made a couple hires from there, a scout and a contract expert but guess what, everyone hires people they've worked with before when they get hiring powers. I get to start a new project, I'm staffing it with people I worked with before. Common practice. And every rebuilding team fills their roster with placeholders and veteran retreads. Why is everyone so stupid all of a sudden? The Sox just went through this not that long ago after 2016. People are mad that the Sox are horrible, but they were terrible last year and were always going to be worse this year, especially after the deadline. Was Getz hired under the right circumstances? No. Did he do anything obvious in his post as head of PD to earn his job? No? But he got the job and there nothing we can do about it. It seems like a lot of people in the fandom are just choosing to be miserable. I'm going to wait and see how he does in the job.4 points

Ignore them. I’d ignore you, but is so ridiculous it’s entertaining. Chris has proven you wrong all season long. I just find it hard to believe that is was KW, RH, Jeremy Haber, Marco Paddy and all the rest that got the Sox into this unprecedented mess, but somehow, all along Chris Getz was a star, if they only had listen to him. He’s been showing you for months, he too, was part of the problem. You just tried to put a feather in his cap by revamping pitching development. Hasn’t that been his job mostof the previous 5 or 6 years? Player DEVLOPMENT, Chris also waived Seby.4 points

Reminiscent of the days when WSI would ban/exile almost anyone with a negative viewpoint and quickly assign labels like "Dark Cloud" to more pessimistic posters...obviously, nobody is forced/coerced to respond in any way. CALI might be the only one this year who really sticks out as attempting to be more positive in the face of the tsunami of criticism, but I think even he might have temporarily surrendered.3 points

For what it's worth, the Seby back-and-forth between WS2023 and WestEddy is cause he was propped up as a Getz developmental win months ago, because he was bat-first coming up the system then got better at defense.3 points

Exactly, 85% of the league is thinking either "We can't be the red sox, so we have to be more like the rays" or "what if we were the rays, but with a $400 million budget"? Meanwhile the white sox and rockies are thinking "we aren't the yankees because they spend too much, let's put a nice, modest product on the field. Get that damn spreadsheet out of my face"3 points

And realistically, when you are having literally the worst season in the 124 year HISTORY of modern major league baseball, are you supposed to be happy and making excuses for the franchise?3 points
-
Pitching has been solid, I guess, but the problem is that was already the one possible + in this org so it's not like he has made a significant improvement.3 points
-
To be fair, this franchise has been mediocre to bad far more often than it has been good. And this season is clearly terrible. So the pessimistic/realist viewpoint has been, in my opinion, the correct take much more often.3 points

Robert also seemed like he would net an all-time haul last winter. Now he's on the verge of being "we'd be lucky to get out of that salary". Worried he's the next Jackie Bradley Jr. Our try-hard prospects have come up and been throwing up 50 wRC+ seasons. No bueno!3 points

Jimmy, please I ask you to never change. One day all these baseball people you have supported and excused by placing all blame on ownership will die and by then people will have forgotten about your weird infatuation with believing the conmen that work for said owner you hate..... over and over. Chris Getz is not turning the White Sox around and he's done absolutely nothing to warrant any optimism.3 points

Has anyone mentioned yet that one of the reasons why Vargas might be struggling even more, and one reason why he might be extra concerned, is that he went from an organization where he asks for help and gets "here's our 400 page textbook on this pitcher, would you like to spend 3 hours in our virtual reality simulator seeing his pitches" as a reply, to an organization where he asks for help and gets "We think this guy might throw a fastball you should be ready for that" as a reply?3 points

Seriously, im not giving Getz credit for firing people that should have been fired before this season even started. Hell, Getz should have been one of those people. So far, he's done nothing right. The team he put on the field this year is literally the worst team in baseball history. Yes, some of the players don't have his fingerprints on them but a lot of them do. Great, he let go of people who should have been let go a while ago. Lets see what he does with the manager now, and with Crochet and Robert, and what little money he will be allowed to spend this off-season. He has a long way to go and a LOT to prove before I change my outlook on him and this organization.3 points

Getz continuing to trim the fat. We'll see if he can hire the right scouts.3 points

He hasn't fixed anything yet though. I'm not going to give the man any credit until improvements are actually made. All this could be like firing Rick/KW and hiring...Chris Getz.3 points

I think most of us understand and agree with that. I hated the hire when it happened and it gets worse every day. But screaming it from the highest towers and cliffs into the void only returns an echo, so I guess I just no longer find the Getz venting to be cathartic and instead am resigned to being stuck with him. Being a fan of this team is fucking exhausting.3 points

That has been said. I have no idea how true it is. I also know that Kenny preferred the older Cubans because they could help the big league club quickly. The whole operation is a mess and it’ll take years to fix.3 points

Getz was a horrible hire. I don't see how anyone could have assembled a worse ML team than the Getz 2024 White Sox.2 points

Its like folks don't grasp just how HISTORICALLY BAD this team and this season is. There should be no remaining front office members, when you do something THIS badly.2 points

I’m pretty sure Getz would’ve canned Paddy last year if he weren’t under contract. Also, this won’t really affect January 15, 2025 very much. These agreements have been in place for awhile.2 points

I'm all for trying to fix once top prospects but man, you don't target that kind of guy in the trade of your best asset traded at the deadline.2 points
